Minecraft is a 3D sandbox game that has no required goals to accomplish, allowing players a large amount of freedom in choosing how to play the game. However, there is an achievement system, known as "advancements" in the Java Edition of the game, and "trophies" on the PlayStation ports. Gameplay is in the first-person perspective by default, but players have the option for third-person perspective. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects-mainly cubes and fluids, and commonly called "blocks"-representing various materials, such as dirt, stone, ores, tree trunks, water, and lava. The core gameplay revolves around picking up and placing these objects. These blocks are arranged in a 3D grid, while players can move freely around the world. If I have one critique about this channel, it's that the experts aren't informed about many things about the games. They talk about how the lighting in the game has improved since they last saw it, clearly indicating that Gamology didn't mention at all the fact these videos are recorded with mods that enable cinematic camera paths and complex shading. They're left with the impression that it's just how the game looks or works out of the box.

@@TheRealPots While I agree that's the primary point, their view of what they think the game is does influence their opinions and statements. A good portion of the video revolved around them talking about how Minecraft has become much more cinematic. regardless of the main purpose of the video, these types of videos will influence people's opinions. There will be some people wo are introduced to these games via this channel (though admittedly for Minecraft that'll probably be very few because it's hard to find someone who hasn't at least heard of it before) And while they're trying to be fairly unbiased towards the game itself, it's clear the experts are judging the game and the builds showcased using it on it's graphics. So I feel it's important that the experts know what is default and what is in addition. This video in particular wasn't that bad, but other videos in the past led them to making completely incorrect statements about the games themselves because they weren't informed of third party mods or the like. I don't think it's a big deal, I just feel that mentioning "the lighting is enhanced for these videos" would temper the reactions to less relevant parts of the game.

Maybe have them experience a skyblock. That's what the first build was and how difficult it is to even get started in a skyblock where you have limited resources before growing out to what they were able to build.

@@eviljbrian im sure the least of their concerns would be survival. They're architects that want to experience building in minecraft, so just let them use creative. I see no point in making them have to do a stone farm, mob farm, plant trees etc. just so they can build stuff.

4:52 As someone who used to be part of a build team, The builds are planned. We usually throw ideas in there and build what we come up with. There are also people that do kind of have special roles, because some are more comfortable with big builds, small builds, interiors and certain styles.

It is a little frustrating that they don’t fully understand how Minecraft works, however that lack of knowledge does give a little more headway for a realistic explanation, where as it would be much more slow and the explanations could likely become simple as they could just compare the physics engine and textures of Minecraft to real life and leave it at that

The problem I have is that they are distracted by the things that make a game a game. They worry about things like physics or things being "Magical". I want to hear about how you could make it possible with alterations or how it's similar to real buildings or how it could be improved even. There are also much better games for building that look much more detailed like Valheim, Eco, Ark, and etc. They get so distracted by how minecraft looks blocky and details that are game specific.

Well, one could argue Minecraft has an even greater capacity for creativity and making choices as anything and everything can be harvested/demolished in the world to make room for creations, and instead of using those resources to make specific components for the whole build, one builds whatever they want cube by cube, meaning there’s no chance for terrain to screw with their design and only the sky and their dedication are the limit. Edit: also, I assume most of these are creative mode, not survival, but building large structures in survival has the added component of being able to source so many different resources from the world to use however you want. Also, I feel like these people were fundamentally uninformed on Minecraft considering the literal core of the game is that everything is either cubes or fits inside the limit of one or more cubes, without any rounded surfaces. Even the water is geometric, moving cube by cube (it always reminds me of slo-mo shots in movies that weren’t shot at high frame rates, so everything turns jerky and drops frames).

I worry about the physics when I build. I also worry about the arcane implications when I build. It's when those two fuse together that making a fantasy castle really good. It needed a wider or at least more of a tip, the chunks the keep(?) is floating on.

I am an architecture student working on my master's degree. There is an echo of the familiar architectural ego that I experience constantly in the university and in the profession in the video that is almost unwatchable. "The real world doesn't work that way." They pretend they didn't have to do conceptual design just to develop imagination for the first two years. I understand that they are looking at things through an architect's eyes, but these buildings are not about general disciplines, but about aesthetics. It's a good thing they don't start peddling that the building is impossible to base on that little mound of dirt on the side of the hill. I used to play Minecraft when I was 14-15 years old and it was extremely fun. I had fellow students who visualized their midterm submissions and even their thesis projects in Minecraft. Most of the newly graduated architects were inspired to enter the profession by games like Minecraft, Sims.

You really need to let them log onto a basic world, walk around a bit, make a tool or two, break a few trees and stones, and just generally let them get the idea of how some of the game world is set up. How gravity functions (and how it doesn't), and the basic idea of how water and lava function in game. That way they'd go into these videos with a much clearer idea of what's possible and why, and while I still imagine they'd note which things wouldn't be possible in reality, it would be focused more on the buildings themselves and the setup of them. The actual architecture rather than the fact that the island is floating and not them questioning how gravity, water, and clouds work in this game. I was interested in his very excellent point that, for some builds, increasing the scale of it would allow for better detailing. This is indeed a tactic many use. However he made a later comment about not knowing whether blocks are the main part of the game or not, which only showcases the fact that he doesn't really know how this game functions, nor any of the conventions that minecraft builders have developed over time to compensate for the fact that everything is made out of blocks.

Man this Channel really needs to give the Experts more Context to what's happening in the Video sometimes, so that they don't go off about the Video and how it is. It just pisses me off to see a React-Channel, not give Context to the Experts. There was a Channel called: *REACT* and in some way, they would give Additional-Context; but they also featured everyone from the _Social-Spectrum(from the Elders, to Children, to Teens, to Adults - Expert or Not)_

Love the idea of architects reacting, and they clearly are amazing in their fields, but it will be ideal to inform them about the basics of the game. Minecraft in essence is a game of cubes, and that is the main thing they point out as Bad. The whole premise should be, how creative can you be if you were given the restriction of only using one shape form... in this case a cube/square.

@@s8theninjawarrior916 Pearl, Scar, BDubs (all Hermitcraft), Mythical Sausage, and Joel (both Empires) are the only S+ Tier survival builders on MCYT. People like Jeracraft who use world edit for 90% of their builds are good, but it isn't the same. It's a lot easier to make a striking landscape custom tailored to your idea and fill it with structures and have it look good than it is to take an existing landscape and modify it a little to suit your structures.

As someone who played the game lots in survival these builds kinda make me cringe. They're amazing in a flyby with a good set of shaders, but from up-close the houses don't really hold up as something you'd ever want to aspire to building, and the detailing is often patchy use of weird blocks. I get it though; "diagonal" houses just don't work well with Minecraft, but a bird's eye view of buildings that all adhere slavishly to the same compass direction makes for a boring city.

The first build you looked at was a skyblock survival play though where spawn with limited resources unlike in creative mode where they have access to infinite blocks and can fly freely On the note of the lighting effects and non-blocky clouds and water is due to shader packs There are also resource packs that change textures on blocks, creatures, and items

Minecraft is good for architects to review, it’s just that they have zero knowledge about this game and have no frame of reference for anything. However, some other commenters pointed out it’s also not much better if they just get everything explained. Ideally they need a game that appeals to them blind. The assassin’s creed video was a good pick to show them for example.

I'm not a good Minecraft builder... I'm a cave dweller... But I'm somehow offended by some of their comments... They clearly don't understand a few things... First, Minecraft is a block game. It will always look blocky. Second, it's a game, not a simulator. Gravity does not always work the same as real life. Third, can someone at least explain the game first before they react into it?.. Also, can we do an "Engineers React" to Minecraft as well?... Thanks.

most minecraft builders use refence images, but it's normally just as a guide. they will make their own decisions as to designs and the way it comes together as a whole. you will also notice alot of builders will follow builds based on real things.. it makes things feel more real and will often mean that the architecture is fairly accurate

I’m not sure if they understand what a game is, or I’m easily impressed because I want to be able to build like this in my world. Cuz I think the able to turn blocks into these amazing and cool concepts and structures is a talent and you would think an architect would be amazed but they’re focused on the physics. I wanna hear their opinion as if the structure was something they saw in the real world. I would like to see then play the game and build something, not to say that it wouldn’t be amazing but so they appreciate the creativity u have to have when you’re presented with blocks, and wall, stairs, slabs of course.

It’s a game of blocks there’s a level of appreciation needed to love Minecraft for what it really is which is a sandbox game. It’s a game that challenges people to make beautiful worlds out of literal square blocks. I like this reaction much more than the others I've seen. The scale was much larger, the skill was on display better, and the experts talked more about design and historical architecture than just physics and blocks

8:05 lighting is not usually like this, they are using what's called shaders whick makes the games graphics and lighting and water look a little more realistic. Most of the builds your looking at also have modified the textures of all the blocks to once again look more realistic and less "cartoony". And another thing is all these builds are built using what's called "creative mode" where you are immortal and have unlimited access to all blocks and items and have the ability to fly. If you want to see some builds built by players who have to gather the resources and deal with enemy creatures, then search for "HermitCraft " and the builds are just as good if not better.

To Experts, Players can share their structures with other Players by giving the world file to forums and there you can download the world with the structure and put it into your game files, structures can also be used for modifications, yes there are also modifications like shaders that improve lightning of the game and texture packs made by Minecraft's community.

There have been a lot of interviews and indepth coverage of GoT's opening cinematic. I imagine the players working on that massive build pulled screenshots of them and the sets to work out how to build them. Ridiculously impressive.

The lighting isn’t even vanilla (meaning that the lighting was installed by the player to their computer to make the game a lot of bright and semi realistic but it doesn’t look like that naturally) it’s called using shaders.

Something I find interesting about their reactions is they react to the time-lapses and don't seem to recognize it's a time-lapse. And they comment about real life aspects that don't apply to the game but ultimately get shown in non fantastical builds...like anything built that can be fantasy but is seen in real life, barns, castle's, etc that aren't floating and so on often have logical foundations, supports, etc they just might not be built in the correct order of a real life building. Minecraft, when it comes to builds, is less about the process and more about the product. They also don't realize the game still looks the same, but there are texture packs (the dude briefly asked if that was a thing players could do) and shaders for lighting and so on. They really should play the game for a bit to get used to what players have to work with, then react to more builds like the team one.

Another thing they don't seem to mention, is that most of these bills are probably done in creative mode where the player can have immediate access to all the materials they're using in the videos instead of being in survival or adventure where they actually have to go out and search for Iron, wood, wool, etc. At some point I would like to see either these guys or some other architect/construction type workers actually use Minecraft and see how the mechanics of the game work: material collection, building, etc.

Players can import their own textures into the game to change the look of it to fit whatever style they're going for. The reason some of it has very realistic water, lighting, and clouds is due to sort of specialized mods called Shaders that enhance the visuals of the game on a much more technical level than texture packs. I really hope architects become much more prevalent and their work much more prevalent in America cause she is right. America has a lot of boring, poorly designed buildings. Urban cityscapes LITERALLY contribute to depression because humans arent meant to be surrounded by concrete and glass constantly.

In computer modeling, you can create a natural tree system, or any other natural system like rivers or coastlines by using fractals. It is amazing how maths can describe any natural phenomenon.

They are using a filter to change the skins of the blocks and a program that changes the sky to be more realistic . They are also building the trees by hand to make them the shape they want.

2:24 yes you can visit these worlds in the game and explore them yourself you can also edit them, these are just saved game worlds freely posted online to get and put into your own copy of minecraft to experiance,

I just came upon this. I would love to see them actually play the game and build something. That would be fun. So vanilla Minecraft does not look like what they are watching here in this video. There are "texture" packs which change the way the blocks and items in the game look. And the atmosphere, the way the clouds, lighting, fluffy greenery and the way water looks is achieved by using "shader" packs. That Japanese build where they were smoothing out the blocks was probably done in "World Edit". That is what map makers use to make adventure maps or CTM(Complete the Monument) maps. When people first look at Minecraft they of course see a bunch of blocks, but once you get into the game you realize there is so so so much more to it than just that. I really enjoyed the video.

Man, the hours put into these build.. The people that participate in building a whole nation is- Mannn you guys are amazing sheesh. My house, the cool thing I guess is my axolotl aquarium? Surrounded a room and there's table in the center to view them (with a bucket of clownfish to attract them axolotl) kinda like your own personal dinner night with axolotl atmosphere.

So the way massive team builds work are intresting. basically appears a person, who gathers people with a same idea and he sets time. After that they either divide into a groups of up to 4 people or if there is oly like 10 people they divide into pairs. Everything that comes after is an a chaotic, organic building proccess

Grate video, just gonna give some important information. You can change the texture of the blocks and also the way light works. Some of this builds are made complete by hand. That means that the players had to place every single block for the build. Some are made with some programs. Don’t really know the names of these programs but it’s also hard work. Hope this helps for future videos. Grate video guys 🖤

It really bothers me, on the first one, how they focus on the fact it’s being built in the air. They don’t understand minecraft. That is a consequence of wanting to build in a big open space, not a design feature. They don’t recognize the 1/2 and quarter blocks. The only thing they say that someone that isn’t an architect couldn’t tell me is the country style of the castle. They really do need to walk these people through it, if you’re looking at something you don’t understand you’re going to make some conjecturey opinions I really can’t stand the guy. He doesn’t make any comments other than “wow this is all squares, it is reminiscent of futurism” while looking at a literal medieval castle

There are resource packs you can install that change the look of the blocks along with shaders ect taht change how the clouds, sun, shadows ect show up. Almost all of what i saw in this video incorporates these changes to the base client as this is now how minecraft looks straight out of the box. BUT, it does make it look so much more atmospheric like you said.

9:30, the fact that I almost took Architecture in College (many reasons but Minecraft contributed so much on why). However, I changed my course to Fine Arts during enrollment. HAHA!
