Fun fact: Grian (a famous Minecraft RU-vidr) used Minecraft to design his backyard and gave the design as a reference to his contractors. He has a full video on his channel about it.
Yeah I saw that video. Kinda crazy how he did it tbh. Getting your real life backyard and putting it into Minecraft is hard in it itself. But then you transform the backyard in minecraft and convert it into real life. I don't know if I can do that
I think we should get a part 2 and have them watch a couple Minecraft builders that use a more realistic style in their builds. That would be pretty nice.
I love how they slowly went from full architect analysis to have the artist come out full tilt and fall in love with the creative fantasy aspect of it.
@@rishijusia3050 I agree with you to a certain extent, in addition to over capitalism. However, it depends on the level of skill and execution implemented by each respective individual and project in question.
I like these guys. They understand its an imagination space but still try to get some fundamentals out of it. I think some better clips could be found however. There are plenty of mc builders who try to stay as realistic as possible and I do know of one who is an actual engineer who plans his builds as if he were irl. I sadly forget his name tho :,(
I always try and make my builds structurally logical. Like, if i have some kind of floating gallery it needs some kind of support or tension system to keep it that way
And they still take the design seriously, like the criticize them to the core damn. And their critics make sense too, they focus on the design not the realistic aspect of it
It's really not hard, it's just a matter of designing basic layout and geometry of the structure you are building and then choosing a good palette of blocks. Sure it may take some practice to get to Grian level but it's not that hard.
@@kikio4230 Exactly, no build in Minecraft can be as difficult as in real life. There’s so many things to do and so many factors, you have to deal with wood, planks, screws, layout, geometry, the aligning, you have to think of the flow of water when it rains, and where the electrical components go, and so much more.
I love how little they know about the game they're looking at. It really gives a fresh perspective on what has become psychologically neutral to gamers like me.
Or how little most gamers know about architecture, Architectural Design History and Theory. Building design with a focus on CADD, struct Arts, Graphic Desig
I love how they reacted exactly how I thought they would react which is with brutal honesty. I would've loved to see them have a chance to get on Minecraft and design their own build and see what they do
Well they definitely don't play games, and are definitely in the beginning just too "critic" like, being kinda judmental as well. "They're definitely not building for Hollywood hills" then trash on people's architectural skills in LA? Like I feel bad for anyone's designs who aren't theirs cause like obviously if it isn't their architecture it's bad. And that guys architectural skills are quite minecraft blocky style anyways sooo XD. I usually live videos like this but not when people are super critical or judgemental about how people do things. And that girl, "I wish I had an excavator tool like that" she seriously doesn't understand he's breaking dirt with a hand, also she is aware of shovels and the existence of digging vehicles right? Definitely limited imagination/thought process going on, in my own opinion of course. I get I'm kinda being judgemental a bit, but come on, I'd like to see them actually react to the highly insane skilled builders, especially the community recreating the whole earth in minecraft.
the problem here is their comparing real life to a pixelated game made literally out of blocks. 😂i also love how they judge the way their building but when its done they love it😂
I think they're most reasonable than most experts reacting to videogames. Like they aren't expecting full accuracy, they know Minecraft builders typically don't have any knowledge in architecture and just make whatever looks nice to them Edit: words
You should definitely show them different builders in part 2, there's some impressive builds that are far more realistic or detailed than these ones. Maybe show them modded builds (while informing them that the game is modified
Seeing the next generation of architects will be interesting for sure as I'm sure they could be better then that guys own blocky architecture skills. But ugh why people still gotta do generation segregation or any kind, were all equal aside from being born in different eras. The gen x gen y gen z stuff is so ugly and tiresome, stop the separation already, were all different sure, but not so different we have to segregate the generations. (Before anyone says the generations crap isn't segregation just look the definition up before you try to "big brain" bash me on why anyone thinks I'm wrong)
@@ImFuckinLazy It is unfortunate the amount of hate for other generations. While I agree with you in that regard, I still use them, but always try to in a positive way. Edit: Also, groups are useful for knowing how a given population is doing.
@@ImFuckinLazy because the people in charge actively benefit from any form of segregation. Always have. There’s definitely personal bias to it, and there’s SOME reality in the sense that the time period you grew up in plays a role in determining the skills you learn, your tastes in media, and your overall morality. But think about who always pushes these narratives. Think about who benefits from us bickering and fighting with each other instead of standing united.
@@thomasdiehlen77 To show them what's possible in the game? They probably got the idea of, it is just a game built around moving and making squire shaped buildings while it is way more than that.
I will say this: *To understand building in Minecraft you must first understand Minecraft itself.* These are simple and basic little builds. There's Minecraft RU-vidrs out there that has done things like build Las Vegas and New York City, a 1for1 scale of the Lord of the Rings world, and national monuments. Than you got so many different types of build styles. Like modern, fantasy, medieval/castle, cottage core, sci-fi, technical (redstone builds), etc etc, and many more. Just for a quick reference I'll say look up *"Hermitcraft".* Nearly everyone there has some amazing talents in their own way. Just to mention a few of them there's GoodTimesWithScar, Cubfan135, Iskall85, Xisumavoid, Mumbo Jumbo, bdoubl0100, False Symmetry, TangoTek, and ImpulseSV, etc etc. Heck even though I don't like him grian even has some good builds as well.
@@JoeXTheXJuggalo1 if they want to see more accurate lifelike buildings they need to see the modded versions and shaders. The vannila is very plain and i think they expected too much of it.
@@jolandafrijlink6103 modded Minecraft with shaders is like a totally different game. They're looking at Minecraft in general. Modded Minecraft to me and shaders to me isn't Minecraft anymore.
I think it's really fun to have these experts who have no idea about game mechanics (structural stability, weapons, armor stands, item storage, enchanting table) looking at these builds. It gives a much different insight without the bias of "for survival gameplay".
5:46 The game allows the player to use shaders, which are programs that... make the game look nicer than default (I'm sure someone else can give a better explanation 😅)
My father is an artist. A mechanic. And a perfectionist lmao. His first time playing Minecraft I was really young. It was on an old Xbox. He built a brick mansion. I remember thinking it was the best build I had ever seen. (I still think that it’s pretty amazing) especially for his first time playing. And I hope one day I can recreate or even fix the Xbox and recover it!
I'm a Minecraft gamer and I have always wanted to become an architect when I grow up. Their comments and feedback on the builds actually helped me get better at real life and Minecraft Architecture. This video was really helpful and I hope that sometime in the future you will make similar videos :)
It’s so funny how little they know about Minecraft and how seriously they approached the builds. Would be interesting to see their reaction to larger more intricate builds
They should have them build something in the game to experience it. They would understand things like the nether portal, storage system, enchantment, and the limitations in the game.
There has to be a part 2 and part 3 of this. There are so many Minecraft builds that are massive in scale. Also, there are Minecraft builds that aren't symmetrical like diagonal structures. I want to hear their insights. It's very interesting.
8:55 When they said they were missing the simetry I thought; they should see the Minecraft buildings of Vegetta777, an Spanish youtuber who studied arquiteture and its obsessed with simetry and does amazing houses
I wanna see their reactions to like mega builds done in minecraft. Now I'm not promoting but I feel like the builds that are massive like jeracraft or trixyblox or something similar. I want to see their reactions to some of minecrafts largest and best looking builds
I’ve been into architecture since 5 and something that really helps me in building in Minecraft is scaffolding and smooth stone or just stone, it’s like setting the foundation and then adding the layout for it which makes it much easier if you don’t have a pencil and paper within arms reach (At 5 I had to draw my building plans since that’s when Minecraft was newer and we didn’t even have bamboo yet, btw I started playing Minecraft at 3 just so I don’t confuse anybody, I was 3 in 2013)
This isn't just them reacting to Minecraft builds, but essentially eviscerating the game as a whole. "omg it's block's" yes, sherlock. this floor is made of floor.
They're people who haven't played the game and given the simple instruction of applying their professional opinion. They weren't even being hateful. Fucking relax mate.
@@xecillmaze4740 Definitely not a big deal but a little disappointing I was hoping they’d maybe talk about creative applications with limited materials and stuff. So it’s a little lame when the only comments they seem to make is “oh this could never work in real life”. Yes but I was hoping to see comments about organics or something. Unless this video isn’t actually targeted at people who play the game. And it’s not entirely the fault of these commentators but on the channel/production team for not preparing them so that they might be more insightful.
@@xecillmaze4740 yes but when it’s a video game these things should be obvious to them. Take one look at anything Minecraft related and you should be able to realize it is made of pixelated blocks. Nobody really wants to hear them make the same jokes about the environment or how things wouldn’t structurally work irl. They should comment on the design aspect as well.
@@hi6575 They DID comment on the design aspects, constantly, throughout the entire video. They commented on how everyone relied heavily on symmetry, preferred modern designs because those were easier to accommodate the "blockiness," on how dark wood or block looked odd paired with other design choices, on how the hotel looked like a modern "modular" hotel, on how certain builds didn't fit their environment, etc. etc. You're only hearing the "negative" comments because that's all you want to hear.
I love how they call the nether portal a TV lmao. But we need them to react to more experienced builders like those in hermitcraft. Maybe get them to react to the season 7 map
One thing that’s a genuine interesting question to me is how the needs of a Minecraft world fundamentally change architecture- the needs for nether portals, chest rooms, etc etc
I would love to see them try to play minecraft (creative to pick more freely without needing to learn a completely new platform) or to kind of direct someone who has played before! I think it would be interesting to see their reactions to this side of minecraft, kind of planning
No no no bring these two back and make them play the game! I would love to see what they would create. They sound incredibly knowledgeable in their careers i wanna see how it translates in game.
I think you would've been a lot more intrigued with some of the Hermits' builds. They're a group of players on a designated server and most of them focus either on building or redstone, a more technological side of Minecraft. Their builds are usually very detailed, very interesting and, later into the game, very big. I think you would've been impressed. Keralis is probably the one who builds the most realistic things out of all of them, BDouble0 (not sure about the exact spelling, but you should find him with this) is great at making nice interior designs in tight spaces, Grian is just, well, Grian. Either way, the whole server is littered with great buildings, realistic and fantastic, that I think you should check out if you were to do a part two of this. They're not representative of the majority of Minecraft builders but as some of the best, I think they could be interesting for this.
I absolutely love how they approach these builds though!! Their unfamiliarity with the game is what makes their reactions fascinating to me, and it's something I'm glad no one took the time to explain the nuance to them, because their first reaction and interpretation using their lifetime of career knowledge and experience as an older generation means so much to me. I LOVE seeing a little sliver of how their brains work and as someone who is neither good at architecture nor building cool things in minecraft, it never would've occurred to me to think of matching climate to architecture, or that in a virtual world these architects would prefer the imaginary to the realistic. It has me thinking of how minecraft architects prioritize certain things over others vs their real life counterparts, and i didn't expect that they wouldn't be impressed by certain builds' features. I could watch this kinda stuff for hours. Experts are some of my favorite people for any field, no matter how niche. If i could hire these people, i absolutely would ☺️
I think it would be nice to let them try to build themselves (probably give them one experienced minecraft player who can give them some tips and tricks how to achieve effects they want to get). It would be fun to look at their approach to building.
@@richelieu5406 ???? Maybe I'm trying too hard to understand your comment but I just don't know what point you're trying to make. I can't tell if you think people don't like building round things in the game, or if you think it's not possible. But it definitely is, and it's a lot of fun. I've been pushing myself for awhile now to only build round structures whenever possible, and it opens up a world of new options that aren't possible when you stick to just square builds.
@@richelieu5406 what they meant is people build minecraft house is always the same symmetrical house, architects tend to make designs that stand out like pointy on the end and curvy walls on the other side of a building for example
@@raufwarith2197 Being symmetrical has nothing to do with curves or no curves. You could build a tower on one side of the house and it would be non-symmetrical, but most people in Minecraft prefer squares because it's easier
It's very interesting to watch people who don't know what Minecraft is, to try and visual what certain things are such as the portal. I also love all the feedback!
2:44 how would you feel when you just tryna build but they said it's just mediocre. And now they care about climates when we really don't care about seasons in Minecraft lol 🤣
Funny fact: Here in Germany there is @crocodileandy, a Minecraft youtuber with currently 250,000 subscribers, who studied architecture and also worked in this job for a few years. He quit his job to make Minecraft videos full time. And he's having mega success with it.
I know I’m not the only one saying this, but I’d love to see them to react to more detailed or bigger builds. I don’t know many specifics, but Hermitcraft has some builds that not only a beautiful, but take inspiration from real architecture, such as the midnight alleyway.
I love how completely unfamiliar with Minecraft they are. 🤣 MC not be that good of a tool for teaching real world architecture, but I guarantee it's helped tens of thousands of kids develop an interest in the field.
I feel like minecraft can really be used in architecture with detail, it gives us a 3d view on the house and gives us a idea on how the structure will turn out personally i copy house's in real life into minecraft i love it.
i want to see these architects trying to build something in minecraft. also, they should see some builds on anarchy servers. there are some builders that just blow your mind!
You know if you can find a good mountain, you can turn it into a really cool giant house with huge stairs going down the side straight to the ground. Unfortunately I have lost the Minecraft world I did that in a long time ago.
