WHY 8MM & SUPER8 HOME MOVIE ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE IS IMPORTANT?
Old Family films shot on 8mm/super8 (sometimes even on 16mm) are an invaluable collection of unseen personal testimonies from our history.
Unfortunately, the condition of these film reels is often dramatic, as they are stored in inadequate places and handed down to individuals who don’t know how to project them.
At Archival Footage Service, we strive to build an archive of family films that is accessible to everyone through our RU-vid channel.

AUSTRALIAN CULTURE AND VALUES HAVE REALLY CHANGED A LOT IN THE PAST 40 YEARS. The 1950s, 1960s 1970s and even the early 80s were simpler times. People today are always in a rush and impatient. I watch a women at the supermarket today, line up behind an elderly person using the self check-out, growing impatient after about 30 seconds and rushing to another machine that someone had just left, by the time she started processing her few items the elderly person was already finished. Courtesy, politeness and respect are almost non existent. ALMOST, I was all the way on the other side of the City at 6:30am yesterday morning and had a flat tyre. and 4 guys, Islanders or Māori’s jumped out of a truck and changed it for me, and wouldn’t accept money when I offered. So, that is something I shall never forget.

Very nice touch with the Guitar, just enough. It really wasn’t a great time from an economic standpoint. Interest was high and the Real Estate Market was crap, while employment opportunities was difficult to find. Things picked up in 1976 through 1981 then fell in a heap again, when interest rates sky Rocketed out of control. The old cycle of life. We tend to remember the good parts and allow the unenjoyable parts to drift from the memory bank. 30 Years from now, when we 60 to 80 year olds are long gone, the young people of today shall look back on the 2024 and earlier and remember the good old days, as the less enjoyable times have been replaced by then future crappy times. Life!

From early 1984 to late 1986 I worked in a building at 19-31 Pitt Street, next to the Goldfields building. They are both gone now. I saw them several times today. Brings back a lot of good memories seeing them again. After arriving on some cold winter mornings I would go to the conference room on the top level and warm up, looking across to the Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, and Opera House.

Culturally, Australia has changed enormously since this film was shot, and not always for the better the people were much friendlier, simpler times. Folks from the'70s era can feel like an alien in their own country now.

Just like the water flowing under the bridge and the cloudy overcast conditions in the video, the period of the 1970s is gone forever. Just the memories remain and that quite ok. Perhaps the sweetheart you liked then and perhaps still do. You wonder how and where they are today, and do they think of you and smile to yourself. The songs and the music that you enjoyed from the period also linger in your memory bank, you discard those that you didn’t like. Why dwell on subject matter that wasn’t pleasant. Enjoy, as there is more time gone than there is left to reminisce. Just like the water and the cloudy overcast day, although the memories remain just like the video. All the best!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Regrettably, our videos have been reused without our consent, leading to this watermark placement. Understanding the frustration, in our latest releases, we've reduced the logo size and placed it at the bottom. We hope this adjustment makes for a better viewing experience. We apologize for any disturbance caused.

@@archivalfootageservice Gee thats shocking. A water colour on the video, did it hurt their eyes or something. Apologise for what? Inconvenience? Should have told them, no problem, pay you say $2k and you shall send them a video with no watermark and they can watch it 24/7. If you hadn’t developed it and the person hadn’t taken the time to upload, they wouldn’t have enjoyed it in the first place.
