Thank you for the BRP Lynx comment about changing your mind. After watching BRP dominate the industry pretty hard for the past 10 years, the popularity of Doos made me question if Cat is be around in the future. I want them to be, but here in Wisco it feels like 50% of new sleds are BRP. My procross trail sleds have all been decent, but yeah if they get stuck they're heavy pigs, and removing the hood is annoying, so it's nice to see they've pushed everywhere. My main complaint about procross is just the mass, and all those small changes like composite running boards sound like they add up. Excited to try one! Thanks for the review and insights, cheers!
Great review! I haven't owned a Cat in a long time but am interested in the Catalyst. The tube frame/heat exchanger/tunnel design looks great. If the 858 works out well and they make a twin rail mountain sled I'll bite.
The 146" you rode! Isn't the same track as what u just slapped on ur turbo. The 146" is only the finger track which I loveeee on my catalyst, can't wait to get it back. Been a month waiting for my motor to be rebuilt lol, can't wait to hear Abt the turbo! You doin a 858?
Im not a mountain rider iv rode in the rockies and can do it well. But i live in upstate NY our mountains t really tight with trees. When we get enough snow i do love to boondock but we don’t have that kind of snow all the time. I live in the valley with big open farm fields not flat but hilly power lines some fun stuff when we have enough snow. My father has the catalyst 600 its cool seats a little hard for trail and suspension valving is stiff. I raced cats SX and pro XC 15 years many wins championships. Do all my own mechanical work including suspension. Catalyst with Atak i can hit the nastiest trail wide open on the soft suspension and im 6’3 270lb now. Feel i could take catalyst to a pro XC race and would work perfectly on soft lol!! If cat gets the valving correctly i feel it would just make the catalyst better yet. Im thinking about a 858 riot because i do love riding powder when we get it but also want to trail ride of course. Now that im getting my life back together after a crappy 10 year battle with everything from health to finances want to head west again once or twice a year maybe. I watch most ur videos and respect ur opinions or evaluations. Would love to see u on a riot and give us ur opinion on it. As always great stuff appreciate the feedback on the catalyst Thank u.
Dammit! I want so bad to see you on a lynx! Those things just intrigue me! I will say, Cat definitely made huge strides with this sled though. We'll see if the 858 hype is real, and if cat stays on top of things
The more details about the alpha track swap you’re willing to share, the more appreciative I’ll be. Gonna have to swap in the off season, got a used 2020, track was too tight and is missing a few 3” paddles. Plan to use upgraded track and drivers, but I’m already nervous about doing it myself…probably not that difficult.
I have a 20’ alpha and i recently switched to the ”next gen” 3 inch track and its a banger. Ive hit it on a few logs and rocks and the lugs are still solid. Also i felt that it had a bit more grip than the old track, could be it being more stiff also.
Though I have to keep in mind that I unfortunately will see more trail snow than mountain snow…not sure if there would be much difference between a new 2.6 vs new 3
I wish I had seen this video before placing my order for the 858 Mountain Cat 154' 2.6. I chose not to upgrade for the $600 running boards. Now seeing how it was collecting for you on the 600, I may regret that choice.
