I can see the Sidewinder really going down in history as an all time great machine.

Also, not for nothing, A little extra weight on a comfy trail sled seems to make it ride better. Thinking Sidewinder here.

Exactly...they stick to the trail better and can pull off bump absorption physics that lighter machines can't. It ain't just the shocks or the suspension geometry.

This is probably one of my favourite segments. I love the spitballing of ideas where the weight could come from sled to sled. Within brands and even same motor chassis’s the weight difference boggles my mind

Here’s one that’ll make ya scratch your head also, that you guys overlooked. Look at how close the Yamaha sidewinder and the renegade 850xrs with smart shocks are, if you were to take away the power steering off of the sidewinder it would actually probably be lighter then 850xrs with smart shocks

Yeah, just didn't have our Lynx by the time we shot this. For sure we'll weigh it next season, but might even get it on the scale for an end-of-season rundown....
@TheLeblancGroup

My guess is 45 pounds more, you have much beefier your shocks, have your skid with rail stiffeners, additional bracing all over the place. Heavy duty front and rear bumpers.

Love it when i spend a day on my tcat, keep up no problem with the "trail sleds" and hear the guys say its not a "trail sled".... its an everything short of snow cross and deep stuff sled. Power steering is a game changer to boot! Not sore after 150 miles, that says alot

Total weight is not just the only part of the story I remember when I had my Yamaha Nytro the rear end was very light and the front end was so heavy I could not pick the darn thing up. It’s where the weight is placed weight distribution is so important it would be interesting next time to get a 4 scale set up to on the front skis and set on the rear skid. And Show us the weight percentages very common in the car industry car driver always shows it. More work for AJ but it will really tell the story about where the weight is on that sidewinder . Have you ever held a 10 pound barbell out front of your chest and then pull that same weight close to you it’s night and day difference.

Great video guys. We are all trying to hold on to this awful sled season ( I ride in the Madawaska area ) so this gives us some content for folks thinking of purchasing a new sled. I watch Snow Trax religiously and love your honesty, even when you don't give us Cat guys a lot of love, but I believe Cat is back in the game.

So cool to see. The Turbo Backcountry XRS with a full width front end will be cool to see the difference year over year and compared to the MXZ Comp. Now I want you to weigh a sled that most people ride in the configuration they ride in. Lets see what a Linq caddy of fuel, a full bag of "essinetials", ice scratchers, ski-wheels, ski-trackers, triple blade carbides, plastic tunnel cover, mirrors, windshield, GPS, Bumpers, aux lighting, knee pads. You know, the minimum kit to trail ride 100 miles, lol.
@bigguydiy2184
@bigguydiy2184 5 месяцев назад
Please continue to provide the wet weight. Because some of "heavier" riders do like a lighter sled. I have a SKi doo GSX SE 800 and a Renegade Adreanline 600. On long and rough riding days, I ride the 600 because I am not so tired and beat up on wooped out trails. Smooth trails and high miles, GSX SE with the air shock wins.

Nice work guys. One thing to note. The Backcountry Xrs cannot have shot and the 10.25 screen combined. So that is 577 lbs with the 10.25 screen is with the battery and electric starter! Impressive I think. Not sure why the freeride can have the 10.25 screen and shot but the BC can’t.

So I do believe smart shox do weight a lot, when I ordered my 2022 mach z I debated for a while if I wanted the Z ( of course i wanted the Z) or the renegade adrenaline 900R , the mach z had a dry weight of something like 554, the adrenaline was like 531ish if I remember right... it's cool seeing actually riding weights
@PistolT
@PistolT 5 месяцев назад
I think total sled weight is an awesome measurement... Thanks for this segment. However, you could make an argument that where that weight is matters even more... 40lbs over the skis vs 40lbs spread out over the entire machine makes a difference.... This will take into account where the motor is mounted, does mounting the starting battery behind the seat vs under the hood matter, etc... might be interesting...?

Thank you for this info. It is sorely lacking as it is just as important (imo) as hp, torque, track, etc. One of my theories for some of the weight discrepancies is a combination of material thickness and alloy choices. I'm no weld and fabrication expert, but after ripping apart a few chassis and attempting welds, brazes, and etches on various sled metals I know that not all makes and models are built the same, even if they look dang close side by side.
@PartikleDestroyer
@PartikleDestroyer 5 месяцев назад
Thanks guys, great info but I have a question: How is it possible that the 2-stroke XRS 850 is more than 15 lbs heavier than the 4-stroke 900 XRS Ace Turbo R?... And it is more than 35 lbs heavier than the Competition XRS with a Turbo and beefed up chassis? Are there gold bricks in the storage area? (That would explain the current MSRP)

Weight means nothing unless you feel it. Rode a boost khaos for 3 days and I’m a Yamaha srx rider and the khaos literally drives well heavier and it’s prolly 100 pounds lighter. Weight is a myth unless it’s limiting you.

Very cool - nobody cares about the dry weight, although you said you were going to talk about the manu advertised weight compared to the actual weight - maybe another video? Good call out on the giant fuel capacity differences between the Doo's and Poo's - that is a bit of a game equalizer.

You had the Yamaha, but did not even mention the Thundercat. Almost the same. The Poo S4 is a joke, rented one for my son a few weeks ago and it could not keep up with a 440 two stroke, let alone my 23 Tcat or 24 Riot 9000. Actually out in the Snowy's, nobody could keep up. Was waxing Assults etc from the start.

If you watched the video all the way through, they explain that they only weighed the sleds they have in their test fleet. Nobody has 858’s yet. If you take Cat at their word that the 858 will be lighter than the 600, with a standard shock package, the 858 should be around 520 wet.
