My spring was broken - this video was awesomely helpful! After reassembly - starting the machine helps seat the snap ring into the metal collar.

I have to do this job… the other problem I have is the bracket that this sits in is broken… any suggestions or videos on how I’m going to fix that? Thanks

You will want to pull the pinion, pull the starter shaft and replace the bracket which doubles as a motor mount. Pull plastic, pull air tube, pull airbox, pull throttle bodies...

No, there are so many different ones. You are best to look up parts for your year make model.

No engagement or noisy engagement.

Engage starter, it will jam the collar over the snap ring

I see. My problem is that it engages but it disengages within 3 seconds every time...

They dont stay engaged. They will crank about 3 times and disengage each turn of the key. Pinion will get dirty. Cleaning it will help throw it out farther.
