@rickyyang3357 I grew up in Indiana and have a buddy who was a heavy equipment operator. He made a pond that was 35 ft deep and put walleye, crappie, bass and some cats. All sorts of structure, with a man made creek running into it. It has a pump and takes pond water to the top of the little creek where there's a small "pool" which fills and spills down the creek. I have to say I was a bit jealous when I visited.
That would be an Eastern Bluebird considering range and also it has rufous throat. and the bird at 12:48 is a Palm Warbler. You can edit your post and mention the Palm Warbler and correct the bluebird because I doubt people will see my comment
Fishing with your daughter priceless! She called her first blue gill Gilly ! Bye fishy ! Man had tears of joy in my eyes ! Salute to you and your family! Great job
I think it would be super interesting to get a local ecologist on board to assist with the new pond build, they could help you make a really valuable addition to the area for local flora and fauna. Think native species of plants and insects etc all beneficial to the larger pond and wider area at large!
Since your pond is a man-made water feature, I would suggest building a bio-filter between the new bait pond/utility pond and the main pond. All you need to do is built the new pond on higher ground; with rocks to create an aerating cascade and a shallow section for trees, shrubs and grasses that live in or next water. The water cascade would oxygenate water while the wooded swap would filter nutrients to prevent algal blooms. Maybe make more wooded islands so ducks can shelter on at night. A bio-filter swap would encourage frogs, freshwater crayfish and other fish that could help your bass pond ecosystem. This would encourage a greater diversity of wildlife. The utility pond feed source needs to come from the opposite side of where the water came from.
Very cool about the Aquascape team coming to build a feature. I think it would be cool to see a large wetland filter fed from the big pond and a waterfall cascading down into a separate pool, and finally back into the main pond.
I’m glad you talked about the burrowing of crawfish in last video. Had no idea! Might have just saved me some hassle for my build! Very thankful for this channel!
Been watching your content for what seems like at least 8-10 years. Your growth over that time has been so cool to see, and the growth of the home farm and ponds is unreal. Your family's happiness translates to phenomenal content without effort. Keep up the great work and congrats on all the success! Much love from Mississippi.
That’s amazing how the cold snap will just turn a pond crystal clear, and it’s very exciting to hear that there’s gonna be another pond build. P.S. Swanson would make a good name for a bass
Really enjoy the pond series. Seeing comments on how lucky you are with the pond, the wildlife and other things. Where you are the luckiest is that time and those memories with your daughter.. That fishing/tagging clip brought a smile and a tear to my 60 year old eyes.
I would love to see a Live feed when Moby gets moved to the backyard. That would be awesome to see unedited and live of the day I look forward to most.
Yayyyy! Im so excited to hear we're getting another pond build. You have by far the best chanel on RU-vid. I'm sure we're all grateful to get to be a part of it.
I knew nothing about Bass or Blue Gil before I started watching this channel, now I know the various mating temperatures of those fish, it's true that sex sells, I love this channel.
Always great to see the pond changing. If it's possible, a small creek section of moving water protected by rocks and plants between ponds might be a fun project. Just a thought.
I’m amazed at how the pond has taken off, a lot quicker than I would have thought. I’d like to throw the name Augustine in for one of the fish in honor of my dad who I recently lost.
I think it would be good to have more plants in the new pond, this will encourage invertebrates as a natural food source to the pond. Get some crew fish for the new pond too. Looking forward to this project, keep up the good work.
New pond idea. If you do some water features like a waterfall, you could use flagstone (large flat stones a few inches thick) and carry that feature out to the edge of the bigger pond such that you have some nice flat ledges that stick out for the bass to hang out underneath during the heat of the summer.
In the heat of the summer shade doesn't cut it. The water temperature is the problem. Bass will always hug the bottom of the deepest part of a pond when it's warm
I really like the idea of the beach type area for the pond, I think it would add to the pond and could bring some interesting things later that maybe you did not think about before.
I am SUPER excited to watch your Aquascape pond build. I really enjoyed the videos of the one they did at your house. I can't wait for this! One thing to think about with your new pond: deer. I built a pond in my backyard and was so excited to watch the wildlife visit it. They do visit - and they eat everything. I don't mind sharing but the deer eat EVERYTHING before it can get established. Just something to consider as you plan the new pond out on the farm. You have so many deer!
I don't know what your policy is for edge water plants but I think you could really spruce her up with some water irises - or maybe you could use those on the new pet pond? Had em on the 1 acre pond I grew up on, really added a nice splash of color to the scene.
I'm so impressed by what you have accomplished with your dam, Wow! Very interesting to see the different changes it goes through and the fish activity. With regards to the algae, I know here in South Africa we have Red Breast Tilapia that will eat off the excess algae. Are there any fish in your pond that will do the same? Perhaps the Blue Gill...
Happy New Year to you and your family🤙 That sounds like an awesome idea having Ed and Greg create an awesome feature in your pond👍👍👍 That’s going to be an awesome video to watch🤗🤗🤗
Love watching your pond build videos dude so exited for the new one For the aqua scape pond you could go all out I think a waterfall in front of a small grotto/cave, sandy beach into the waterfalls pool at the front with stepping stones just in front of the waterfall so you can get a peak at the hidden cave behind it
will you post a compilation video of all your favorite time lapses you’ve made so far with the audio being your backyard noises like you did with the timelapse around 12 min in. it reminds me a lot of home, currently living in the city now and don’t hear that much anymore. thanks :)
I have been watching since you started the backyard pond. So amazing to see how far the 5 acre has come! I am excited when Moby, Bonnie & Clyde get to to go the 5 acre! As a tribute to Sarah, I would suggest to name a bass Zarah. Another name could be named after my bearded dragon - Xylo. He is as aggressive as Moby when it comes to eating! He has gotten my finger instead of his food on multiple occasions! Some bluegill names could be: Ace, Brim, Mako, Spudnik, Tilly
For the new pond, a flowing stream alongside the waterfall for an extended length would be pretty cool. And maybe more overhanging plants around the pond like some persimmons and willows
Awesome videos man and a reaaaaally dreamish pond! Though me being Swedish our definition of crystal clear water is not the same😊. Here when we talk crystalclear u can the bottom 10 meters down. But I really enjoy your videos. U contribute so much to the local wildlife and I love it!
What if you got a tree care company with a crane to try to save you a skeleton of a medium size tree that will be part in part out of the water for the ducks to hang under? I’m a arborist and it would t be hard
MAN, you are awesome, just found your site today and my heart is so warmed up with mega much respect and love for the way you are helping and protecting nature. The sweetest moment was when the littlelin caught tagged and touched HER FISH BYE BYE
Hello all. Ed The duck decoy surfer bird, is a gull billed tern. The bird is in migratory plumage. When breeding they have a defined black cap. Will always have a stout black bill. The common tern is sharper and thinner with bright yellow and orange bill. Water is life. Interesting how your pond is a testament to the principal. Cheers. B X 2 .
Above the bait pond you can help with runoff issues by implementing an "S" curving "wetlands" basically a low trough 1-2 feet deep that will stay moist but not have water all the time which will help control the flow of water during the rainy season. Essentially Water Speed Bumps
Figuring out how to have planted areas would be very very neat, they are both so beautiful and allow you to better support wildlife since it's more like a natural environment. Plants growin up out of the water really help support amphibians and give waterbirds a place to nest. Keep consulting local biologists/ecologists about how to beat support the critters near you! They seem to have given pretty good advice so far.
I believe a biologist told him to not put plants in the water, but he didn't say why. I'm assuming it is to keep pond-maintenance lower. I agree with you though!
@@doesnotexist6524 I don't think that would be SUCH a big problem, but maybe. I think the main reason was the maintenance, because plants would spread and he didn't want to be bothered by keeping them under control. Personally I think it absolutely is doable, it just requires effort. He was talking about how people are putting poison in the water to kill the vegetation off, but to me that's absolutely lazy solution. You absolutely can just mechanically pull the plants out, if they overgrow. I've done it myself many times on large bodies of water. So....I don't think there really is any good reason to not have plants around the pond other then not wanting to maintain them. Especially seeing how much money he's just pouring in all the time on various stuff and toys...
I truly am loving the transformation of your beautiful pond and all the community creatures! It's cool that the birds and ducks can get a better view into the water after the freeze. That darn Herring tho! I would love to take my grandsons to fish it one day. With admiration from Colorado 💛💙❤️
The dark areas on the moon are mares which are remnants of geologic activity. Lava cool and made large smooth areas. Its cool to see all the craters and where the debris projected out of them
Watching your videos makes me very envious, you are living what millions of us would like to do and we only see it as a dream, congrats for the awesome life and lake bud!
this channel's content is just what I need, what you need and what the world needs. keep it up!! Bass name: Ivory because of that elegant white coat each of them have!
Really enjoy your videos of your pond and all that you’re doing around it. An idea for the new pond if it’s going to be a big one can you put a nice size island out in the middle of it for a picnic area and a couple of big trees can grow to provide shade and a bridge to get over to it
I fly fish for trout on gin clear lakes in the Province of British Columbia near Kamloops. It is much like Bone fishing the flats of tropical islands. Sight fishing is tough but so rewarding!
It would be awesome if the new aquascape pond still overflowed into the main pond, adding additional O2 and current for the bass to stack up at, and the potential for some of the bait to slowly make their way downstream to the main pond with the bass.
Maybe an aerial shot and an over lay of what your initial, like layout, size and location to the big pond would help. I'm having trouble imagining what you have in mind. Not much of an outdoorsman but I'm big fan. I been following this build since day one, every single video. You're awesome.
Having bald eagles on that property and using that pond as a food source is one of the coolest things you can have in your backyard, aside from the pond itself of course.
That's a nice pond I always wanted to build a pond like that but twice the size and depth. The best way to prevent big birds from eating my fish is to place lots of large rocks and logs for a hideout.
I absolutely love your channel. I agree with some of the other comments about this being the best pond and fishing channel. Not only do we get to learn a lot, but it’s really fun watching the process evolve.
Love it, love it, love it! It’s so exciting to watch the successful development of your pond. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us. As for suggestions, I’m still hoping you will consider adding some unusual species to the pond’s ecosystem-species that are not invasive and cannot breed even if they escape, of course! I’m thinking specifically of maybe 4 striped/white bass hybrids. They could be the "great whites" of Crimson Oak Pond!
