So many bedroom guitar warriors on here saying how easy AM songs are to play. No one is suggesting they are difficult. What makes Alex so talented is the fact at 3:58 he can play the verse riff for Crying Lightning whilst singing it perfectly like the studio version. Anyone can play chords and sing at the same time but singing a melody and picking individual notes on a different melody simultaneously takes a lot of practice. Alex does it here perfectly, whilst keeping the time, and live in front of a huge crowd. Few people will understand how complex that is.
@@felipetorres2715 No one is saying composing the songis less difficult, but that doesn’t mean singing and playing melody on a guitar is not difficult because it surely is
@@beuhgo1809 if u play guitar for a long time you will see that is only a matter of practice and effort. Even a untalented mongoloid like me can play the riff and sing the lyrics of arctic monkeys tunes. Compose good rock songs its not a matter of practice, u need to have be a real special fella.
nah haha his voice started to transition in 2009 with the album humbug, his voice became deeper and deeper since then, but the difference between their second album and humbug is pretty noticeable !
How the fuck can they not screw up a single note in such complex and difficult songs??The bass , perfect , the drums , spot on , the guitars absolutely amazing...Are they even human?
Not my fav album of theres but its some of the best drumming that has ever been made, not quite John Bonham level but Brianstorm is a perfect example, was like indie went metal, very unique
Arctic Monkeys is one of those bands that came just a bit too late in to my life. Like I enjoy it now but man If I'd have started listening at 15 when AM came out it would have blown my fucking mind...
In my case AM have been growing up along side me, I discovered them back in 2007 when I was 11 years old and since then they're one of my favourite bands of all time. They're just mindblowing for me
I dislike the fact that so many people are hating the fact that Alex's voice has changed. Some people are blaming on his cigarettes and others are claiming that he is just trying to be cool. I believe that he changes his voice around because it's what he feels most comfortable with and we shouldn't judge that. Also just cause Alex acts a certain way on stage doesn't mean he is COMPLETELY different. It would be weird if a grown ass man was acting like a teen. So come on let's get over it and not become a toxic fandom hahaha
Exactly true! I recently went to see the kooks, who are genuinely trying to preserve the etiquette of their first album which is just depressing seeing them now. I would much rather a band who evolves and becomes something bigger, which is the arctic monkeys!!!
Teddy Picker lyrics They've sped up to the point where they provoke The punchline before they have told the joke Plenty desperation to be seen Staring at the television screen They've sped up to the point where they provoke You to tell the fucking punchline before you have told the joke Well sorry, sunshine, it doesn't exist It wasn't in the Top 100 list And it's the thousandth time that's it's even bolder Don't be surprised when you get bent over They told ya, but you were dying for it She saw it, and she grabbed it, and it wasn't what it seemed The kids all dream of making it, whatever that means Another variation on a theme A tangle on the television and the magazine Do you reckon that they do it for a joke? Do you reckon that they make 'em take an oath That says that we are defenders Of any poseur or professional pretender around When did your list replace the twist and turn Like a fist replaced the kiss? Don't concern us with your bollocks, I don't want your prayer Save it for the morning after And it's the thousandth time that's it's even bolder Don't be surprised when you get bent over They told ya, but you were dying for it Let's have a game on the teddy picker Not quick enough, can I have it quicker? Already thick and you're getting thicker Let's have a game on the teddy picker Not quick enough, can I have it quicker? Already thick and you're getting thicker Presuming that all things are equal Who'd want to be men of the people When there's people like you?
Crying Lightning Outside the cafe by the cracker factory You were practicing a magic trick And my thoughts got rude, as you talked and chewed On the last of your pick and mix Said, "You're mistaken if you're thinking that I haven't been called "cold" before" As you bit into your strawberry lace And then offered me your attention in the form of a gobstopper Is all you had left and it was going to waste Your pastimes, consisted of the strange And twisted and deranged And I love that little game you had called "Crying Lightning" And how you like to aggravate the ice-cream man on rainy afternoons The next time that I caught my own reflection It was on it's way to meet you Thinking of excuses to postpone You never looked like yourself from the side But your profile could not hide The fact you knew I was approaching your throne With folded arms you occupied the bench like toothache Stood and puffed your chest out like you never lost a war And though I tried so not to suffer the indignity of a reaction There was no cracks to grasp or gaps to claw And your pastimes, consisted of the strange And twisted and deranged And I hate that little game you had called "Crying Lightning" And how you like to aggravate the icky man on rainy afternoons Uninviting But not half as impossible as everyone assumes you are Crying lightning And your pastimes, consisted of the strange And twisted and deranged And I hate that little game you had called "Crying Lightning" "Crying Lightning" "Crying Lightning" "Crying Lightning" Your pastimes, consisted of the strange And twisted and deranged And I hate that little game you had called "Crying"
Yes, to me. I can't really speak for anyone else, can I? It doesn't have much passion in it, I don't find it particularly interesting in any way. Big fan of the Monkeys, but their solos were never a strong point.
Apollo Alexandre it’s not about if it’s basic or not, or if it’s strong or weak. it’s about how it makes you feel. it’s just a cool little solo, it doesn’t have to be complex for it to be great. it’s about how it fits with this amazing song, that’s how most of their solos are. it just needs to hit you in all the right spots :-)
dayshawna I understand music and solos, ok? I don't judge them on their complexity or speed, or any other dumb shit. Attitude and feel matter most. And this lacked either for me. I'm a big fan of the band, but their solos were never a selling point. This was just bleh.
One of my first festivals was this one at 13 and this performance as well as many that year such as Motorhead, Queens of the stone age, crystal castle, arcade fire, metronomy have not only hooked me to Arctic Monkeys in a severe way but also to Festivals, which since then is my biggest passion
Wow, just wow! The transition (so amazing!), Alex singing "Save it for the morning after" (omg!) and that bass line in Crying Lightning (cooler than cool!)
this look is such a transition point towards am alex its funny. the ungelled hair and the baby face mixed with the leather jacket and chunky ring on the pinky finger haha
Oh my God, finally someone confirms it. My friend and I have been having a debate over whether his leather was blue or black. I said blue and he said black it's just the lighting making me think it's blue
There was a transition between "Perhaps Vampire are a Bit Strong But" and "Balaclava" (I think ?) in an early show. It's been some years since I haven't listened to it, but I remember it as magnificient.
He plays some the songs of the solos for the songs during the humbug and Suck it and See periods. (Cornerstone, This House is a Circus, Potion aproaching, Library Pictures, 505, and Shimmer Trap just to name a few)
I didn’t like it at first but as I kept listening to it and understood the lyrics better, I eventually loved them as much as I love their heavier albums. Give it another chance!
Still amazed by the fact of how alex can sing and play.. he is a little demon.. his flow is not always on tempo or in in the time kinda float around the melody and still play the riff without missing a note.. what a hero.
I discovered them way later than everyone else, although people kept puting me onto them. Even though the first song i heard was do i wanna know, i think i prefer there older sound overall tbh. But all there material is great, and he has such a good deliverence and the drummer rocks!
