Now that people have started to receive these fans, some P12 Max's seem to have a distinctive "rasp" within certain RPM ranges. At this point we have 3x P12 Max samples, 2x from Arctic directly and 1x retail all of which have been running non-stop for the last two weeks. While NONE thus far have the irregular acoustic output some people posted about, I've ordered another 6 (sadly on backorder) to see if we can recreate the issue. This might come down to a bad batch or something else entirely. Arctic is also investigating on their end. But if you DO have a P12 Max with this problem, please reply to this post since I'd love to get my hands on a few problem fans. - Mike

Hi, I have problem with my 3 out of 5 fans. They produce annoying bearing noise but only when they start spinning or when about to stop, otherwise they ok...
@fabienm7179

Bought one - Along side a few P14 PWM PST - got it today, It has the crackling sound. Also it seems to me, that even with PWM curves starting at 0% from 40°C and 20% at 60°C, for temps at about 45°C, the RPM rises up to 800-1200 RPM all while sounding like miniature drill. Now i usually don't want my exhaust fan to be completly off, but i did it for the sake of testing it a bit. I already filled out a return, but now i'm wondering if i should just try to get another P12 MAX and hope for the best or choose another option.

The ball bearings in all of them suck a little when spinning up from a stop or at super low RPMs. Up around 600 they're absolutely fine for me.

I've bought 4 of them and all 4 have high-pitched "scratching" noise that can definetely be heard on one of the reviews, but on much lower scale than on my copies. Switching back to stock NR200P fans for now, not gonna touch another Arctic product for a while
@Archibanus

I purchased five of these fans a few days ago. Unfortunately, they keep ramping up and down uncontrollably in PWM mode. The RPMs randomly jump from 600-800 to 1200-1400, accompanied by a grinding noise. Initially, I thought it might be a BIOS or software issue. However, after trying every possible fan curve and settings combination in both the BIOS and fan control software, I concluded that the fans are defective. To confirm this, I reinstalled my old Cryorig PWM fan, and it worked perfectly without any issues. I also experimented with running the new fans in DC mode with a constant speed, and there were no problems. However, the lowest speed they can run in DC mode is around 1200 RPM, which is a bit too high for my setup. I must mention that even at 1200 RPM, they sound very quiet, almost inaudible. It's unfortunate that these fans, despite their amazing potential and fantastic value, are plagued by quality control problems. Latest update: After contacting Arctic about the issue, they sent me three more fans, these fans had supposedly been checked by their QC team. They turned out to be even worse than the ones I had previously, with more clicking and hissing noises. I asked them for a refund but never received it. I tried contacting them three times and still didn't have my refund. I advise staying clear of these fans and possibly avoiding the company altogether.

I just bought the older Arctic P12 PWM and I'm not used to this level of quietness 😁 But they still suck a bit on the airflow, all my old ones were noisy but were all around 100 cfm while the arctic is close to half. I really miss is my old Aerocool Shark Fan from 2011 in transparent black and red, they were the coolest I ever had and are close to 100cfm, perfect for my very wide open airy case which don't need pressure but rather airflow at least for a rear fan, the top ones the arctic probably do a much better job since it has small anti-dust mesh... Anyway it was like 1/3rd of the price of the Shark Fan but I also have a nice cooler master which was around the same price as the arctic P12, one of the good old sickle fans in transparent black which are much better than their newer stuff and it also had a damn nice big airflow though are jumbo jet loud at max rpm 😁 (still have all of them working and 1 in use for all this time, I oiled the bearings only though the blue leds burned many years ago which is even better LOL).

This is a very good review, that breaks down technical aspects of fan technology into layperson's terms. The better seal between blade and housing is the big winner here IMO. That price point is a huge win and hopefully they can be profitable enough to put funds into further development. That is ridiculously good performance for a five-blade fan. If their next iteration is seven blades while keeping their prices low, they'll put a real stranglehold on the market.
@HardwareCanucks

Thanks!
@AndyU96
@AndyU96 Год назад
What makes you so sure that a 7 blade theoretically perfect design would necessarily outperform a 5 blade theoretical best?
@iamChermac
@iamChermac Год назад
@@AndyU96 Simply put, if all things are the same (blade design, hub size, chord length), an increase in the number of blades should increase the static pressure of a fan (within a diminishing limit). Look up 'solidity ratio' if you want to know more. The not-so-simple answer is solidity ratio involves other physical design aspects of the fan so it's no magic bullet. Blade shape can be optimised to achieve pressure gains, but increasing the solidity ratio through increasing the number of blades is likely the easier win.

I'd love to see these with PST and in a five-pack. One of the things I really like about Arctic is any time I need a couple fans I can just buy a five-pack and not worry about needing fans for quite a while. Been buying their fans for years, always great performers.

The 5 pack is the goat
@nunyabeeswax3012
@nunyabeeswax3012 Год назад
I'm guessing the reason that such an option does not exist is the power draw. The original P12 and the PST variants draw 0.1 amps at full load, which is why you could comfortably stick five or more of them on one header. The P12 Max, according to Arctic's site, draws about 0.3 at full load, which means you can only put 3 or so on a header before you exceed what a typical board header is rated for. You can absolutely still use hubs that take external power, though. And a 3- or 5-pack would still be very welcome.
@anhiirr
@anhiirr Год назад
true, though it does push the range of ITX potential depending on if you only have access to 1 header and how many amps 4-pin fan header adapter does on an itx board...and how many fans it can feed. 5pack for life used the extras to fill up my friends build bc everyone could use a few extra fans/exhaust fans.

@Hardware Canucks Did some testing of my own this past week on air-cooled systems built in the P400A, O11 Dynamic, Meshify C, RL06 and the Air 540. Fans were EK Vardar, Nidec Gentle Typhoon and Arctic P12 Max. Air cooler was a Thermalright Peerless Assassin. All fans were 120mm. CPUs were an i5-6600K at 5 GHz, a 3600X stock and a 5600X at 4.6. Temps were very similar no matter the case used. All CPUs idled in the low 30s, gamed in the low to mid 40s and stressed in the high 60s to mid 70s. Temps differed only 1-3 C on average depending on the fans used, but - and it was repeatable - any combination of the Nidecs and Arctics outperformed any combination of the Vardars. I've settled on the Arctics as case fans with the Nidecs on the cooler for the "best" temps on my current system. Testing was both fun and a pita at the same time lol. In future I will leave the testing to you and just trust your word!

I was always impressed by Arctic P12's (non-MAX) price/performance/noise. Many raved about Noctua's NF-A12x25. And while it is a good case fan, it has a humming noise that the A12 does not have at RPMs above 1000. I often read of people complaining about the P12's noise being too loud and louder than the A12, which is untrue from my experience. I have sensitive hearing and high sensory. I can hear high pitch, whiny noises that some people cannot. Thanks to your review, I purchased the P12 Max just now.

Another great video, Mike. Ironically, I just rewatched your video on the "high-end" fan comparison last night. I almost pulled the trigger on a 3 pack of the Phanteks T30 fans for just under $90 USD on Amazon. The new P12 Max blade design is very similar to the Noiseblocker e-Loop fans with the outer ring that's fused to the fan blades. I love my e-Loop fans, but Arctic putting these new fans on the market may make me change them out permenantly. I have tried a lot of fans, with Arctic fans, especially the Bionix line, being one of my favorites and being the best value on the market, but I've always gone back to the e-Loops. EK, Corsair, Cooler Master, be quiet!, and other popular names have all fallen to the wayside. I will definitely be trying out some of the new P12 Max fans soon. Even if it's in a friend's or client's build. What I really hope Arctic does is change the Bionix fans to this type of blade design. I just love the added flare of the colors and style of the Bionix fans.

Arctic always made great products. About 100 years ago (uhm) when I bought an OEM PC with a Core2Duo in it - I was amazed how silent it was compared to the system that I had before. Arctic. When building DIY PCs, sometimes I went Arctic, sometimes I used the same brand as the case already had, sometimes I tried different brands. I liked the LC Power LC-CF-120-Pro, for example. Now I'm with be quiet. But that's only because the case had Pure Wings 2 in it, I like the aesthetics - and the Pure Wings aren't too expensive. Can't spin that fast, but for case fans, that's okay. Anyway - the new Arctics were on my "list". Only decided against them, because I had enough bq there already. Nice review. Planning to build a small Office-and-Emergency System - Think that box is going to be cooled by Arctic, again.

Word of warning; if you link 2 of these to one header on a Corsair Commander Pro, the spike in amps pulled to start them gradually kills the fan header. Wasn't 100% sure at first, but after they killed a second header, I'd say its pretty much confirmed.

Hey cannucks, hope you having a blessed new year (and everyone). I subbed you several months ago for your appreciated honesty that puts sparkle in your videos cuz I've seen many with over-hyped impression (respecting their implementation of content creation). Can you review JBL's quantum series from 100,p,x (ps or Xbox version) till quantum one. I could've watched other RU-vidrs but I prefer your content for general utilization of headphones usage that seen to match 30-90%. The accuracy in reviews in your video's like a gem 💎. Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakahtuhu (Arabic) May peace and blessings be upon everyone.

When I see your review past month I really like this P12 Max. When I bought it 1 out of 3 make clacking sound & more noticeable when slower spin. Then I bought it again just 1, maybe I though it was defective. after couple hours running the new fan make same clacking noise again. From my observation it always happen at middle if you do 3 120mm front intake. Hope you can test my observation or it just me get bad fan twice. Right now waiting to replace with XPG Vento Pro.

I got one for my DeepCool heatsink who's fan only went up to 1600 RPM but performed pretty well. Very satisfied with the new P12 MAX. I set it to spin down to zero at temps my PC idles at (amazing!) and it spins up to about 2400 RPM at full CPU load on my CPU cooler. Temps are down a few degrees and the fan noise is imperceptible with the rest of my fans running.

For me, it's at 40-43% of the RPM. 39 is fine and so is 44, but 1, 2, 3 resonates. Badly. So make sure they never hit those RPMs.

I wish fan reviews mentioned the harmonics and rattling noises fans do at low rpm. As someone who usually keeps the fans in the 600-1000 RPM for 140mm I really care about motor noises and rattles at those RPM. The 3000RPM values mean nothing to people that want quiet reliable fans. I've had a few fans and they've all had the typical dyal ball bearing rattle at low RPM including some older Arctic A14 PWM. Would love to see this included. An audio clip at low RPM would also be useful.

I've ran arctic p12 fans for almost 4 years now they're great 2 of the fans had a issue with the motors Wich was noticeable with the early units and they replaced them no questions asked, this kind of safety with their products made me a loyal customer of theirs for all of my systems

I had 11 Arctic fans with a mix of P12 and P14 over a year of usage some of them have developed an annoying audible motor noise which has prompted me to switch to a T30 & NFA25 combo. Worth the 4x cost!

I just built a new computer last week, and for the CPU cooler, I went with the artic liquid freezer II 360. on the 13600k. and oh boy is that cooler value for money even when I'm gaming my CPU stays below 50c . and the fans don't even spin above 30% I then went ahead and bought a Value pack of 5 of the Artic P12 Max to put in my case as they are perfect for my Stealth build! Artic is doing something freaking amazing and they are priced very competitive! almost feel like these fans should cost a little more!

Many, many people are reporting the p12 max to have even more severe motor noise than the original, and that's a massive concern given how horrible the motor noise on the p12 and p14 is. I was considering buying these since it looks like an update from the outside, but I'll stay with the p14 and kaze flex.
