The song has the same story as that episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where Picard gets beamed in the head by a probe and ends up living an entire life as part of a species on a dying planet and the probe was only there as a reminder that they ever existed.
Arcturus is weird in that each album is done a completely different style. First album was black metal with atmospherical spins on it, second was avant-garde with whimsical and operatic vocal styles, third was "this" with, as you said, space-y influences. Very keyboard heavy and melodic, sometimes really heavy and sometimes with trip-hop elements. The next was avant-garde metal as well but melodic in different ways. It also had ICS Vortex as the vocalist now instead of Garm. And their last album was like a mix of The Sham Mirrors/Sideshow Symphonies with newer elements added. Arcturus is a very strange band but everything was masterful work.
The first time is not easy with Arcturus. There is many details at each song and for me after 20 years, I always listen albums with pleasure. But I understand that it s to different to like this music for some peoples. Nice comments and thanks for your opinion !
Keep in mind that Arcturus really does put the Avant Garde in Avant Garde Metal, and their albums are very different from one another. If you want a more black metal approach, try To Thou Who Dwellest in the Night, first track from Aspera Hiems Symfonia. (Yes, it's from the "just pick 3 words" era of Norwegian Black Metal.)
One of my favorite bands EVER. But To everyone I ever presented it to, I get the love it or hate it vibe. For me, when I first listened to them, I had no idea that music could sound like this. And it’s just fantastic. I found it interesting when he said is messy, but if it wasn’t messy, I probably wouldn’t like it so much.
"When we go, we go with you ... via wormholes. Wormholes. Wormholes ... " This is a damn space opera. It takes hearing it a couple times and also within the context of the album.
You have to try the Chaos Path. Vortex on vocals, the one who mades clean vocals on Dimmu Borgir on 4 albums. Impressive voice. The song can be find live.
Got hold of this album, back when it was released, just because I knew it was part of the Norwegian scene and boy I was hooked into that scene (and I still am). The whole album is pretty much "all over the place" and spatial so probably not your cup of tea, but after few spins you'd probably start to like it ;)
I like it... very pleasant music in the weirdest way possible... I didn't even mind this horrible production ;) Cool stuff. Thanks for the video Ruben!
Thanks for the listening for my request. And yes, not their best song, but had a hard and little time to find their best tracks, really amazing band, when you listen to their whole albums, i changed the request to this from their earlier and first album and the track "fall of man", which were more black metal, my stupidity ;-). They started at Atmospheric Black Metal and changed their style to avantgarde progressive black metal or whatever you will call it. But anyways, hope you´ll do some of my newer request, especially since you´ve did Naglfar before(not their best track) but requested the track "12 rising" from them, check it out at some point! because the melodies are amazing on that track. Cheers from Denmark!
Is there is any chance for a founders of Epic Black Tolkien Metal ? Beautiful story telling? With beautiful riffs and music from Middle Earht? No SUMMONING fan here? SUMMONING: Caradhras Old Mornings dawn WhiteTower Land of the Dead So underrated and undergournd band, but maybe thats what makes them even more valuable. Please give them a chance and review. Everybody help. SUMMONING
to bad you didnt like it (this is one of my favourite albums of all time) check out ULVER (spesific "blood inside" and "shadows of the sun"" if you dont like it check out VED BUENS ENDE "written in waters" if you dont like that too, then we just arent compatible, sorry...
This is far, far, FAR from their best work. I would rather suggest Painting My Horror, or perhaps The Throne of Tragedy from their 2nd album La Masquerade something (my memory failed me, didn't bother google it or turn 90 degress to check my CD shelf!)
@@dbo0729 I agree, many really interesting moments, and the album where they really stretch out. The sounds and instruments are given space to breathe. On The Sham Mirrors, it's like they tried to fit too much in too little space. There are some enjoyable tracks on it though, but nowhere near La Masquerade Infernale in my opinion.
@@Saiyukimot um, i strongly disagree, but i do agree Sham Mirrors is their best album. When I met Garm I asked him about his view of Arcturus' stuff and he was mixed on their success. So, when you are experimenting, not everything is going to hit the target but it will still have some merit musically but also from an aspiration standpoint. I don't especially love much from before La Masquerade; it i think is very good, but Sham Mirrors is incredible. One of my favorite albums. Sideshow Symphonies has some good stuff and I like ICS Vortex, though clearly he's not Garm. Still, a distinctive singer and personality.
That was Garm (of Ulver) on vocals on this song, not ICS Vortex (he wasn't on this album at all actually). Vortex is back in the band as of 2011. Cheers! Edit: I misread your comment...I see now that you said he is the vocalist today, but didn't say he was for this song. Sorry about that.
on the dollar bill around the pyramid, the elite controllers have written "annuit coeptis" which translates to "our enterprise a success". this song is about the new world order lol
Why does this guys opinion count for anything, can I ask? Honestly, theres something terribly gay about getting people online to hear music of yours to get you a reaction that you like. You cant expect this to be pop music that is so simplistic that you can, be a dope, and love it first listen. I'm so glad theres people like you to remind us
