First Time Listening to Arcturus - Demon Painter (Reaction/Review) 

This may not be their best song but it has an amazing eerie sound, full of feelings. Just hugs you.

Absolutely recommend checking The Chaos Path off of La Masquerade Infernale out. Sideshow Symphonies is probably their least well put together album, and this isn't even one of the better songs on it, Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer is easily the best one on it.

Hey, cool that you reacted to Arcturus. Arcturus together with Borknagar are some of my favorite bands! Unfortunately you chose a song of Arcturus' absolutely weakest album, but don't despair; I've got your back! I've picked 1 excellent song from each of their albums (excluding Sideshow Symphonies) for you to digest, ordered oldest to newest: Fall of Man, The Chaos Path, Nightmare Heaven, Game Over. You're welcome :)

This isn't the best Arcturus IMO. This one isn't quite as cohesive (like you said, meandering) as their other albums. Funny you should mention "carnival sideshow" as a description....the song The Chaos Path from La Masquerade Infernale totally has that feel (and it's excellent!). It features vocals by Garm and ICS Vortex. That particular album was they shining moment, where they truly blew some people's minds about what a black metal supergroup could do. The band itself is more avant-garde than anything, but does incorporate the odd black metal moment as well as progressive metal. Another song that really catches my ear is Kinetic from The Sham Mirror album, which also has some excellent keyboard parts. That album only has Garm on vocals as ICS Vortex had left to concentrate on Dimmu Borgir and Borknagar (he has since rejoined Arcturus and Garm has left to concentrate on Ulver...confusing yet?) Anyways, I hope you do check out more from this band...they were real trail blazers in the avant-garde metal genre. Cheers! PS...thanks for the shout out!

Arcturus is my fave band but this is one of the few songs I don't really like from them.

Why did someone pick the the worst of the Arcturus albums ? It's not rubbish but its not the best.
