Best reviewer. Pleasure to listen to all of the journeys. Although not strictly ‘a’ single malt, but a blend of singles, Id be interested to see a review of Monkey Shoulder.
Nice… One whisky I keep in my library at all times. Have you been to Islay? Lends itself to a whole new perspective on Islay whisky. The distillery full tour is amazing. Have you tried Ardbeg Supernova? Sadly discontinued now, but if you can track a bottle down… it’s amazing! Ardbeg’s most heavily smoked whisky. I see your O’Reilly’s top. Do you live/work in the area? I live on the Gold Coast and in Toowoomba.
Have not been to Islay, hopefully soon! No I haven't tried the Supernova, will keep an eye out for it at bars! Yes I am Brisbane based, love O'Reilly's it's a beautiful place 😊
Ardbeg 10 is the whisky which made me love whisky. Before i had the Ardbeg 10 i only had whisky cola or irish blends like Tullamore Dew. My first tries with Glenfiddich 12, Glenmorangie 10 and Ballentines Finest were really offputting for me at that time. I could not handle the bitter tastes. Ardbeg 10 was intriguing with the bacony smell and the sweet taste with the peat and no bitterness at all. From there i tried multiple peated whisky until i appreciated nice sherried whisky and now i can appreciate even cheaper whisky XD. I have a question about your bottles of the Ardbeg 10 and the Uigeadail. Which date where they bottled? I have older bottles open from 2015 (Corryvreckan and Uigeadail) and 2014 (Ardbeg 10) and 2017 (An Oa). They are all my favourite peated whisky overall. I have bought some newer releases from 2022 and i am concerned that they are not the same quality. But from your reaction on the Ardbeg 10 and Uigeadail my concerns are lowered XD. Maybe i need to open the newer bottles and compare them XD.
I hear similar comments from many people about the older versions being much better than the newer ones. I unfortunately haven’t had the privilege of tasting some of the bottles from 2015. Many of my bottles are in the realm of 2019 and onwards. I enjoy them, but I don’t have experience with The older whisky that may well indeed be better. Regardless I very much enjoy the ones I’ve tried!
