Great list, Wade! The Ledaig 18 just became available in my area. I’m really looking forward to opening it. I keep hearing about the Speyburn 18. I may need to pick it up 🤔 Cheers!
The only Speyburn I had was the duty free Speyburn 10 at 46%abv and I did not enjoy that at all but I'm visiting the distillery in September so let's see if they can make me a fan. Solid pick with the Highlands, definitely agree with the Lowlands as it was my pick as well :) , bang on with the Campbeltown, Islands and Islay. Solid list brother, would be happy with all of these! Looking forward to Jon and Alan's picks.
The tragedy is, this version is absolutely awful when compared to its older bottlings. I would urge you to try and buy an older bottling (round tube) and compare. Mind you, the same can be said for the vast majority of whisky today. Lagavulin 16 is my number one example of deteriorating quality.
Fantastic comparison video Wade, and it was intriguing to see how close the two whiskies were. It's interesting to note that both Tamdhu and Macallan 15yo whiskies were likely aged in sherry casks from the same supplier due to their shared ownership until 2011, which could explain their similar flavors. I think the higher proof of Tamdhu might give it the upper hand, but as you well note, proof isn't everything! Kanpai! 🥃🥃🥃
That thumbnail for the video is Gwhisky level!! Love it! Great picks. Hard to argue with any if them. Speyburn 18 is wonderful, but I'd probably go with Craigellachie 17. It's just a little more unique. Cheers Wade!
It was you wearing a kilt, squatting with Phil's head on the left, Jeff whisky's head on the right, your bottle picks fanned out behind, and a tri-orange background. Hilarious and awesome! I'm not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but man, I sure do love me a good cover😂. Cheers Wade!
Haha my video releases tomorrow and we have both chosen to challenge Jon 😂 oh well, at least we have different picks! Love your Glendronach 18 pick, I had a sample of that recently and was blown away, cheers!
It’s very likely that the expression: ‘tons of’, will never leave our vocabulary, Regarding the perception of the taste of scotch whisky, I’m reminded of the comment of a Union officer made after a violent CW battle. He said that his whisky tasted especially good after the tough fighting was over.
@@McIntyresMalts BTW. If you can get them, please review the very affordable 'Old Overholt’ (bonded), a rye whisky, and ‘Teeling', an Irish whisky. Old Overholt is said to have been a favorite of Gen. Ulysses Grant and gunman/gambler Doc Holliday.
I like your go for broke approach ! My no price considered picks are. Speyside Craigalliche 23, Highlands anCnoc 18, Lowlands Bladnoch 11 (only because the 10 is no longer available) Campbeltown Longrow 18, Islands Arran 18, Islay Bruichladdich 18 Cheers Wade
Good that it’s gained momentum again, had I not just dropped the vid I did when you originally challenged me I would have responded ages ago. Keen for the next ones to come!
Already did that, it was the one I mentioned at the start of the video 😊 Have a look - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UlB89Sp6jOE.html
Great, top shelf picks, Wade. I really need to post my video on this topic ... (I understood the challenge to be a little bit closer to your first video on this topic, seeking representative bottles, so my choices in that upcoming video will not be able to compete with these ...).
Thanks Tim. I definitely think it's open to a little bit of interpretation and given my original video I needed a little deviation from that concept so I wasn't just repeating myself. Looking forward to seeing what your choices are to my friend!
Tried this whiskey at the whiskey live event in St Kilda. I enjoyed it but the one that stood out for me was the Archie rose smoked heritage rye malt whisky. So different loads of dark chocolate, dry on the finish. Lots going on
This is a really well-matched fight. I expect I'd agree with your choice in a blind tasting, and that's before factoring in that the whisky you chose as the winner costs more than $40USD less than the other bottle here in the US ...
Hey Wade! Great review. Me again. You’re probably getting tired of hearing from me 🤣 I live in South Africa and can get the Speyburn 15 for R1400 and the glenallachie 15 for R1600. Which of the two would you choose?
Hey Kayla! Never tired of hearing from you 😊 This is a tough one! I saw your suggestion to do a comparison on Alan the whisky friend's video and now I know why! Those are both very good prices compared to my market! If you like a sherried profile both of those will probably be to your liking. In my market the Speyburn 15 is very hard to find so based on that I would probably chose it, but I love them both. Hope this helps 🥃
It does help! Thanks Wade. This whiskey hobby is quite dangerous, there’s so many good ones out there and I just want to collect them all! Thanks for always getting back to me. I look forward to your comparison review, I think that’ll be a fun one to watch. 🥃
Not being a massive sherried whisky fan, I always enjoyed a bit of Glendronach 15. I never had the Tamdhu before but it does sounds delicious and solid enough to go toe to toe with the dronach. I need to try it. Nice one brother, cheers 🥃
I'd love to try this one at some point but I would rather buy two or maybe even three other bottles of interesting untried whiskies for the money a Signet would cost me. I have got a bottle of Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban though. Very nice but a little too light for me.
It is a bitter pill to swallow, especially with how much this now costs in my country. Glenmorangie is known for being a lighter whisky, I have enjoyed the Quinta Ruban and I definitely think the Signet is their top offering, at least in the core range, but I won't buy again for the price it goes for.
Heck yeah! We want a round two. The nervous look on your face before you found out the results was priceless. I feel you. We spend all this time and money evaluating whisky and we hope we actually know what we are doing. Hahahaha. Ultimately, taste and smell are subjective so even if you get them all wrong it doesn't mean you don't know what you are doing. Nice experience!
Thank Tommy! Good to know we are not totally full of it! 😂 As you say it's subjective and all part of the fun and learning. Thanks for checking it my friend.
That's some tough competition. I've yet to do this comparison specifically, but Tamdhu has won others I didn't expect it would because it's just so unbelievably balanced. I like the Revival better than the whiskies I already compared the Tamdhu to though, so I would lean towards it probably.
Nice review Wade. Thank you for these. Can you please do a review of the kilchoman sanaig? I know is a NAS, but it seems like people are really loving it and I’d like to know what you think of it before I purchase a bottle 🥃 cheers
On my list of reviews to do and in my cabinet! What I will say is if you like peated whisky with sweet sherry combo then the Sanaig is for you. I like it a lot 🥃
Good to know, thanks! I’ll be waiting in anticipation for your review on that- looking forward to seeing you try it. I just watched your video on Speyburn 15 and I’ll definitely be picking up a bottle of that for my birthday next week! These are highly informative- keep em coming
