Nice quick little project to make a good looking LED scanner as seen on knight rider and battlestar galactica etc using Arduino code and a Wemos D1 Mini MCU.
I was looking online for one of these to make and the ones I found were really rubbish with a single LED moving backwards and forwards so i decided to make my own with the nice flowing effect that you see here !
Its a nice simple little project that looks good ..

Another option using the Wemos D1 Mini: install WLED, connect a neopixel/RGB led strip to 1 pin (usually D4), and select the Scanner option. Bonus: controlled by app on your phone. Best part is that it only uses 1 pin, and can be any number of LEDs for this effect (and others). Still, hat tip for using discrete LEDs!

Hey man thanks for your comment ! And ah yes I totally agree using wled would be a fantastic option for a finished product using led strip and much more effects would be possible !! This is more meant to dodge that extra layer of abstraction and get down and dirty with the code .. I guess more about the journey than the finished result and I think it’s a good way to practice messing about with arrays and pwm ! That’s what we’re about here at gizmos and Arduinos - tinkering around with our parts , ending up with something fun and learning a bit on the way :D
