I cannot comprehend people getting so hyped over the same games being released Over and over. Why do people excuse these practices. Heck, even Destiny 2 simply brought back D1 raids and called it a day. Why can’t we hold publishers to the expectation to create? To give budgets to risky projects? To give budgets even to safe projects that aren’t their one flagship cash cow? Indies are amazing, but I want dead franchises to be given AAA budgets, indie games with big name publishers and budgets, unique ideas with new IP’s given the light of day. It shouldn’t have to be so celebrated when these things do rarely happen. It should be normal
I never understand why the risky projects seem to get cancelled? There's such a disconnect between developers and fans - we actually want the cancelled game, we don't want your microtransactions though
Because AAA studios only think about money and profit and want to play it safe and most console gamers, especially Play Station gamers are causal gamers who enjoy the same boring movies.
because it's much more profitable for the big corps. as for the hype, u can blame RU-vidrs and streamers who get the game for free and get paid to hype the shit out of it
Man I miss the early ps3 360 days before online popularity and corporate greed turned everything into cut and past crap with little to no innovation. Even the console systems themselves have become cut and paste. I literally call my ps5 a ps3 3.0.
Because gamers pay for it, as soon as COD 500 comes out and the people just don't preorder and wait on it until you get it for $20, then they would learn. As long as they make money, they wont change a thing!
Yoh do realize for every good indie game there are 10 bad ones, stop being a nostalgia simp and stop crying, there are tons of games released every year, if cinematic games arent for just pic another of the dozens of different triple A games at your choice, even blind men could see that, so stop being a nostalgia sheep and stop crying kid
@@VVVVV99611 good games aren’t made because of a small team there made because of passion Cyberpunk 2077 is a good example sure the game was buggy ambit the passion behind the game is what made it good And yes there are shitty indie games, in fact 70% of most indie games are pretty shit and basic. If you wanna find were the not good but GREAT games se it’s the AA industry not AAA or indie.. but AA
Final Fantasy XIV alwsys has successful expansion teleases without massive bugs. Hogwarts Legacy was released without massive bugs. Baldur's Gate 3 gets released and has so many bugs that it's almost unplayable. I would not call it a successful launch. I would call it a fail because they knew it wasn't ready. They just didn't care. They wanted the profit. "We dont have to fix the bugs. If the game is interesting enough. People will play it even if it doesn't work!" That's a fail in my book. BG3 failed.
Bro the last Arkham game came out almost 10 years ago. What people are tired of is games in 2024 coming out and being the same thing from a decade ago. Like 10 years ago those were good, but now you gotta innovate and change smt...
its funny how insanely wrong you are, there are literally tons of different long running game franchises that have more than 3 main series games that are extremely good, yakuza, GOW, tekken, all of the assassin's creed games that werent made after syndicate, uncharted, resident evil, street fighter too.
0:26 You can apply this same argument to the trend of overused platform mascots in the 90s and 2000s and to the overall use of zombie games and first person shooters during the late 2000s and 2010s Also it makes sense that Natman and Spiderman aren't restricted to linear terrain. If you want a halkway simulator, I recommend final fantasy 10 and 13
the dialougue outside of the khan scenes are boring and the fact that there's a cutscene for almost every sinmgle action in the game other than fioghting is silly and you cant even skip them...
When I was a kid the closest thing to open world for me was Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Torment and JRPGs. I've played a few that have stuck out as really fun or constantly engaging. Sadly these games underperformed because COD, Battilefield and Fortnite dominating attention and what sold from the open world parts are still getting made like Assassin's Creed over and over and over...
Why do they need to? You've got a generation on kids pre buying months before release, diehards, those with FOMO who buy deluxe edition, and those who after being disappointed several times with releases, continue to do the same thing over and over and buy the dlcs along the way that are really just the last 30-50% of the game being sold back to you. Pokémon is a prime example.. No matter how many times the games get worse in quality and quantity, fans will buy Both versions And the dlcs with Pokémon they removed. Sims 4, a terrible way to sell a game but people bought those 35 dlc packs totalling up to £500 just to have an experience. Meanwhile, games like: Haven, State of Decay, Powerwash, Road 96, Firewatch, are killing it in quality. Last triple a game I purchased was RDR2 on a sale.. almost 2yrs ago. Last game before that, State of Decay 2 in 2018 for £26.
There are so many remakes on production right now that i don't even feel for them at all. Witcher 1, one of my favorite games of all time just announced a remake but i only feel numb about it Guess it's only indie games for me now, AAA are way too samey for me to spend so much money just to have the same experience over and over again
indies are absolutely exceptional this year! I recently finished tunic and honestly what a game.. Just wish that level of innovation was carried over to the AAA space from time to time
@@barelyfanatical The problem is that you don't understand the business side of video games at all or just don't want to look at it. I get that Indies are lot more creative in terms of their approach to game design but that's because they have very lower budgets but in AAA games budget can range from 100 million to even 400 million dollars and with that risk or any unsure endeavour goes out of the window you have to nail it when such money is at stake. Niche hardcore gaming community lives in bubble the AAA games that you people constantly cribe about are very successful commercially and companies continue to make them simply because if they chose to do what a bunch of nerds living in a bubble say they will face losses. It's the casual audience that makes money not the niche online communities they may generate lots of notice on social media but not money
@@barelyfanatical just think from first principle and open mind that why the gaming industry is the way it is. Why companies priotize certain things over others because there is no point in cribbing about any of these
Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing game. So are the Arkham games and Halo and a bunch of other games. Depends on the developer and the circumstances of a game.
Sleeping dogs has the issue of collectable stuff, but otherwise is a great game. There's no other game that absolutely nails the feel of 80s/90s Hong Kong cinema.
I really enjoy both Horizon games, but why the hell do we need a remaster? The first game still looks fine. All I really care about is that they port Forbidden West to PC so I can play on my Steam Deck.
That's what I mean - when a Japanese developer gets involved with trying out the same open world formula, the game comes out pretty shit - ghostwire tokyo in this case
@@barelyfanatical Oh sorry my bad I took it as you saying we needed Japanese developers to help AAA devs or something. Anyway you earned a subscriber 👍
Can't, but it's unique, it's fun to play on a rainy day, the story is good. Developers put all their hardwork in it unlike other studios. They respected the culture. @@SoulScience11
@@SoulScience11Extremely repetitive. Just completed ACT1 and did tons of side quests. Now I am not feeling like continuing anymore. All the missions and side quests are essentially the same thing over and over again.
ghost of thusima has some of the worst mechanica ive seen in games, the game about stealth samurai having that insanely stealth mechanics is just unbelievable and if u want to play on hardest difficulty there is no point because combat is so badly designed on mechanical standpoint. I was disappointed when it came to PC because it had very ratings by PS5 newbies for colorful world and story XDDDD and people who say new assasin will be worse are brinless , even if next assasin will be ubisoft biggest flop it will be better then Ghost of Tsushima (Even the story BIGGEST highlight of the game was mediocre at max)
it always blown my mind how indie game teams full of like 6 - 20 people make much better games than most MILLION DOLLAR companies. Like, deep rock galactic was made by like 20 people or smth and is one of the BEST coop games ever made and is also one of the top rated games on steam
Indie developers are incredible and indie titles in the last 5 to 6 years have absolutely been on fire with new and fresh ideas. Honestly, every time you think you've played something before, you're surprised with how unique these titles can get. This year alone cupheads dlc, stray, sifu, cardshark, cult of the lamb and tunic just off the top of my head have been fantastic! Deep rock is also a blast to play! It's amazing how much these guys can accomplish with such little resources. The value you get for what you're paying is fantastic.
That is completely wrong lmao for each good indie there are atleast 20 completely garbage ones a ton of indie games have the same gameplay and most of them are just platformers lmao
@@ahmedmlg45 This. There's a couple brilliant indies, like Tormented Souls or Assault Spy... but fot every one of those there's 100 uninspired 2D platformers. And don't get me wrong, Cuphead or Astlibra Revision are amazing sidescrollers but there's tons of others that are either mediocre or plain bad. That said one thing I'll always respect about indies, most of them price their games right.
That's because they don't have to deal with major gaming companies being too focused on monetization at the expense of the players and having the constant need to be bigger and BIGGER to perpetuate the "infinite growth" mindset that leads to forcing developers to work on games with unrealistically high expectations on a tight deadline while also dealing with executive meddling that more often than not ends up derailing the already shaky project.
You got the right answer: Indie games! Be on the lookout for good indie games! If there's a good AAA game, don't worry, you'll hear about it without even trying and you can play that whenever you want. That's right, you don't have to play it the first week it comes out. It'll be patched and fixed and a better game if you accidentally wait a year to play it.
I like how you are trying to teach the marketing people in games how to make games better as if that's their goal. Truth is, ratings don't matter anymore. Its the money, they need power. Their agenda has a deeper rabbit whole than you imagine. Its sad that players in games are now victims to the greed of behemoths. Indie games are our only hope left.
Days gone is actually a really good game story wise and does a beautiful job of depicting loss and Oregon state in a beautiful way, same with Sleeping dogs taking a crazy and fresh spin on gta with a lack of gun use and genuinely a copy cat of one of the best combat systems in gaming, the Arkham games combat system. the story is also pretty interesting and the main character is conflicted and relatable.
I used to think I was just getting older, I used to think I just didn't enjoy gaming anymore. Then I went back to play games on my ps3 and I've had way more fun than any of the trash I've played the past 4 years released in this garbage industry now
The only thing worse than the AAA gaming industry is the online gaming community, one of the most toxic and juvenile communities on the internet, it's the only community who openly lie just to tear down some of the best and most unique games over something that has nothing to do with the game or over something stupid they disagree with, 98% of the game could be perfect but just because of something like a indie game or pixel graphics or something else stupid they tear it down like it's the worst game ever, when I don't like a game I just ignore it because it doesn't effect me but this toxic community gets pleasure out of tearing down near perfect games, if a game isn't for you just move and talk about something you do like, your negativity is often ill informed and just plain wrong
Ahahaha, glad I saw Horizon popping up when you were talking about mediocre writing in open world games. Feels like the dialogue in that game was written by highschoolers. I find the premise of the universe very intriguing, but the dialogue just makes me cringe sometimes. Like I remember this dialogue Alloy wss having with a guy, and the guy was like "so you had over protective parents, huh?". Yea dude, these people live in tribes and need to scavange and hunt daily in order to survive, I'm sure they can totally relate to a concept such as "over protective parents". The setting is really cool but the dialogue is just so immersion breaking.
I feel like the big thing that separates these open worlds is the setting. Horizon and its giant robots and symbiotic machine interaction, ghost of tsushima with its incredible landscape and beautiful setting, days gone with hordes of zombies and so many more open world games with amazing potential but they all fall flat for the same reason - the world doesn't benefit from being open world. The writing often times is so bland and because the game is open world you can't make everything top tier in terms of written content. Aloy speaking to herself is so incredibly annoying xd I thought horizon zero dawn was half decent - a solid game but could have used so much refinement. After all the trailers and promos, I genuinely thought forbidden west would be the breath of the wild for Sony but it was just another 'hold my hand through the whole game' open world. Apart from the fantastic machines and engagements, everything is just plain boring.
the setting really is great! but the biggest gripes I have are how all the immersion is killed by the writing - as you mentioned - and the constant marking of robots on the mini map. I know you can probably turn it off, but by default you should have that sense of 'holy shit what is that' when you encounter something that looks incredibly cool instead of being told 'oh yeah the slaughterspine is here btw'.
The bar is being set higher and higher. Games that are now considered mediocre would have been revolutionary twenty years ago. Maybe you should quit gaming for a while, it sounds like you had too much.
I hate dialogue too , one of the reasons I like soulsborne and fighting games. You get right into the action without getting interrupted by 5+ minutes cutscenes.
The solution is simple. You want triple A games to be better? Stop playing them. Apathy is the industry's worst fear. It forces them to make things that are above the bar that will keep people hooked. In the meantime we need to support indie titles that put love and care into good games
Like 5 years ago everyone was saying how hollywood is just gonna make superhero movies cause they make more mone but in last year or two every superhero movie floped. I hope something like this is gonna happen with games
As much as I love RDR2, we're quickly approaching the point where that's the only game R* have made in the last decade - GTA V was in 2013! That's crazy to think about..
I see your points and I can't speak in live service games or Fps games since I'm not familiar with them but I have to disagree that open world games are the same because it is true that open world games have similar elements such as a map and traversal but those are made a necessity for navigation throughout the world in order to explore because not having those elements would make the games fundamentally flawed, as an example most 2D fighting games have similar elements like motion inputs, back dashing, damage scaling, and special moves which are a necessity for these games to play well but if they are removed they will cripple the gameplay because they are fundamentals factors for the genre which shows that it isn't a copy throughout each version but a pivotal part of the gameplay design for these games. We see a large number of open world games have their own distinguished combat and traversal such as Spider Man, Batman Arkham Knight, and Ghost of Tsushima which are all distinct from each other due to the combat of Spider Man and Batman following a sense of free flow even though both are distinct in their own way while Ghost of Tsushima is about precise parrying and attacks. I don't see a problem with sequels and remakes because they give the opportunity for developers to improve on the mechanics of the first game or bring a beloved game back with new graphics while also fans wanting to see these things also and using the example of us Dragon Ball fans wanting a remake of the Tenkaichi games that we loved growing up, a rerelease if Marvel vs Capcom 2, and fans looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima 2 which are just a few examples of fans wanting sequels and remakes to their franchises.
i really don't want a Ghost of Tsushima 2. the original is my fav game of all time, and the reason i don't want a sequel is that i just don't know where the story would go. i'm sure the gameplay and graphics will be spectacular, but one of the reasons i love the original is its incredible narrative, and i just don't know where it could go.
The point he's trying to say is most open world games either are way too big and just copy breath of the wild most of the time. He also states how sequels are a good thing but not to the extent of 6+ games which just ruins the experience
@@killdude4287 I see what you're saying but I don't agree because even though open worlds follow a pattern, they are all distinct and offer their own elements that make them unique such as Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider Man, and Batman. A sequel should build on the foundation of what the first game had or improve on the flaws of the first game but if developers just try to build another foundation for a sequel in order to innovate it could lead to a lack of consistency or possibly discouraging fans who loved the mechanics of the first game which has been a problem for the Sonic franchise due to them having a great foundation that fans could enjoy but would drastically change things which would oftentimes leave fans confused or disappointed.
The main issue with a good few of these triple a studios have is that they focus more on getting the games out asap instead of actually working on them and polishing them. While i dont speak for everyone,i would prefer waiting for a good game to come out more than a rushed one with bugs.
absolutely agreed! it's usually the setting that changes (horizon with robots, ghost of tsushima with a feudal japan setting, etc) with no emphasis on actually exploring the world! I would want to discover cool new shit..
Thanks for make a list wich numbers of game series. This is something I knew on my own. This video is like the games: nothing I dont hear before ony in more bad. "experiment. do something new!" this is not concrete enaugh. What should a developer exaclty change now?
You are kinda right, but still biased. The new God of Wars and Spiderman are as generic as the other games you mentioned. Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7 remakes took everything that made this games unique out, and put a lot of overused elements in it. And Im saying that as a big fan of all of those franchises.
Graphics sir. Historically it all goes back to Hd and how much more expensive games got so developers stopped taking chances like they used to. That and all the easy points ppl discuss all the time about live service, loot boxes; remakes, blatant copying for success- all goes back to Hd and then 4k and graphics and the cost to take chances. For all the videos I've watched with these modern gaming complaints - I feel it's important for you RU-vid generation of kids to know why the industry got where it is now. Look at how many more developers we had before HD 360/ps3 hit- and that was the beginning of the end and originality and creativity (innovation) became a $ risk where it wasn't back in ps1/ps2 days. As you mentioned older games that innovated (Doom, Mario) that's why because back in the 90s and 00s developers could take risks and not bankrupt themselves. Good video I enjoyed it- but remember the nuances and subtle points also especially the ones that explain why everything is the way it is now.
From Software is obviously a top tier development team. Their last 5 games Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro(goty),Elden Ring(goty) and Armored Core 6. They are only improving over time. Now that they have financial growth from Elden Ring they are increasing their game output. This is definitely the most important moment to stay on point with quality and ethics, but over the lady decade they've become respected like the old Blizzard.
Are you guys REALLY that starved for new experiences that you can't consistently find games you like from the bajillion that's available? I find that hard to believe. There are games out there for pretty much every kind of player, these kinds of videos are pretty toxic and makes y'all sound selfish.
hey! there's a couple parts about your argument I want to address: 'are you really that starved for new experiences that you can't consistently find games from the bajillion that's available?' well.. from the AAA space, yeah. in 2022 some of the AAA games we've had are Horizon Forbidden west, dying light 2, Pokémon legends arceus, ghostwire tokyo, stranger of paradise, Gotham knights, MH Rise: sunbreak, Splatoon 3, Babylon's fall, Xenoblade chronicles 3, elden ring and a remake for a game that's still pretty new (TLOU). The video says Nintendo and capcom some of the most consistent AAA developers (IMO), so I have no issues there. Forbidden west and dying light 2 weren't great, PLA was an okay time, ghostwire tokyo drags out quite a bit, and that leaves Babylon's fall, Gotham knights and FF origin. Elden ring was praised in the video for doing things differently. 'there are games out there for pretty much every kind of player' the video does say the indie space is absolutely incredible - I'm not at all starved there. 'these kinds of videos are pretty toxic and makes y'all sound selfish' I don't think I came across as toxic in the video - but to each their own.
I don't like taking risks in game , this is why I stopped playing BG3. There must not be too many options to choose from and even if there wil be player must emotionally be invested it in it. Not everthing must be game changing.
This is the problem for people who have played a lot of games- to the point that everything seems repetitive to them despite it being a new game. I mean I know they are a lot of bad reviews of the game called Ghost of Tsushima, but I really enjoyed it - after playing few open world games. -
@jbhoy4953 What depresses me is that indie games keep taking calculated risks and turn out good products as a result yet many don't want to play them because they're not Triple A titles.
@@DemonicRemptionNot really true. Indie games are popping off harder than triple A games on steam in the last 5-6 years. They also retain players for longer as well.
If you have been playing since the ‘90s you’ve probably played every incantation of game there is. Half-Life was cutting edge when it came out and a decade later Halo came out and a new generation of gamers were shrieking “this is the best game ever” while I’m thinking this is derivative of Half-Life and not as good. If the first open world game you play is Horizon Forbidden West you are going to think it’s the best game ever, while those who played Horizon Zero Dawn are “well that’s more of the same, I’ll buy something else instead”. Style of game is limited innovation is what is required not churning out the same game over and over again.
My problem with modern video games is that there's no variety. Everything is a 60 hour dark medieval fantasy RPG, and I just feel like I keep playing the same game over and over
here's a history of laziness cycles in the industry. "so many sequels" "do something else than MMOs" "do something else than Deathmatch" "do something else than run and gun" "do something else than WW2" "do something else than post 2000s warfare" "do something else than the future" "do something else than Open Worlds" "do something else than Battle Royales" "do something else than Tac Shooter" "do something better than an unfinished game" ------------------------------------------- the future "do something else than Realism shooter" "do something else than VR" "do something else than simulate our entire lives twice"
No. I’m boutta piss everyone off. I fucking love triple A games, I know all the developers are taking advantage of us but idc. I’m a massive assassins creed fan and I gotta admit they don’t release one good shit since 2015 with syndicate, but I have high hopes for ac shadows coming soon. I hope it gives ghost of Tsushima vibes, which is probably my personal favourite game. Then we got straight bangers like Uncharted, rdr2, god of war, any Spider-Man game, n word simulator, all these games which are amazing! I don’t think triple a games are bad. The devs abuse its customers but I’m all for it, just like Apple 😅. And the games aren’t repetitive, all of them have unique features which I can appreciate since when u platninum a game u see it’s true value (unlike ac Valhalla that game can suck my toe)
I think I realize one of the reasons why the only AAA games I enjoy is from Valve. Because they don't milk their games too much, hence they don't ruin the franchise.
Dude your channel is going up faster than Musk's rockets, I was LMAO all the way, I follow a lot of gaming channels but yours is very fresh and just awesome, great work bro, keep it up please! Don't stop. Watching u from Mexico! From Guanajuato actually, featured in Horizon 5 and COD.
Also almost no game is with flawless feel. Missions and story feels so pressed and doesn't go with game world. Now I find myself not finishing stories on any game :D (Horizon, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed (actually very nice games, just after finishing 2 (Brotherhood and Odyssey) and Origins, Valhalla and Syndicate is left half played. Definition of "REPETITIVE") and even Witcher) I wouldn't say that they're bad games, but just eating same soup for entire week, it gets boring and even starts tasting like sh*t. Now best games to play are survival games (The Forest, Sons of the Forest, Green Hell, Windbound, Subnautica/Below Zero) which feel a lot more immersive and games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro (2033, Last Light, Exodus) and maybe RockStar games just cuz how polished they feel (Not the Remastered Trilogy). And I'd love to see Call of Duty/Battlefield games in different style. After playing Bad Company, 1st / Modern Warfare 1,2, Advanced Warfare.. it's just too much.
You should not have put sleeping dogs on the pile of boring Open world games since that game actually has personality and deserved a sequel. Where can you find a open world game with such a good hand to hand combat?
I just hate that today have millions of games and i cant play 99.99% of them because money and time its so saturated ,SNES era is where gaming peaked and died Why?Because gaming there was maked with magic but today games are made because money Donkey Kong Country trilogy , Cronotrigger FF6 Super Mario World Goof Tropers and go on the best gaming era , today are a few exceptions like Skyrim Red Dead GOW there are some good 3A games there but not compare with SNES
It's funny how you're taking a dig at Ghost of Tsushima but praising GOWR. Either both suck or both are great. You can't praise one & criticize the other cuz both of these games at their core use the same old generic formula & approach to open world exploration. Both felt like a chore to me( just like every other AAA open world game these days). GOW 2018 & GOWR are no exception to that. They are filled with unskippable cutscenes & walking segments every 5 minutes. It feels like I'm not playing a game but watching a movie with a controller in my hand. GOW 2018 & GOWR doesn't have good jumping & platforming segments & it's puzzles are way too easy & most of the time Atreus solves it for you before you even start solving it yourself. These games have zero replayablility for me, once I finished them I never wanted to play them ever again cuz I honestly don't have the patience to go through the cutscenes, walking segments, squeeze throughs & opening the chests, collecting useless artifacts, talismans & BS again & again. The entire experience feels like it's being controlled by devs, not you who's playing the game. If you're gonna call new GOW games good just based on combat & story, Ghost of Tsushima has even better combat variety(stances, stealth, etc), it has great parkour & the overall story & side missions are decent too. Especially the main character Jin Sakai's journey from a Samurai to a Ghost. Same goes for Horizon games. By that logic every AAA game has some good areas worthy of praise. The real problem is how repetitive & boring they all feel. They all feel the same to me cuz of how unoriginal they are. They don't take risks & innovate the genre, all of them recycle the same formula again & again. The only "good" open world games I've played in past 5 years or so are BOTW & Elden Ring cuz they gave me a sense of exploration & freedom none of modern AAA games & Sony titles could give. And that's also why Indie games are so good because they are very unique & creative in their concept & approach
I made sure to 100% Ghost of tsushima before forming any clear-cut opinion on the game - and the whole island is completely lackluster in its approach to open world exploration (a point you made and a point I agree with). Fox shrines, bamboo minigames, haikus and enemy camps - plastered over with a very colourful coat of paint doesn't fall into the same region as competitor open world games (BOTW and Elden ring - as you mentioned again), but let's not start comparing them to 2018 and Ragnarok - since they're semi-linear, semi exploration action-adventure games. You might as well compare GoT to FF7R or TLOU 2 in that case. Skippable cutscenes for an alarmingly good story doesn't make too much sense - whereas Ghost of Tsushima's story I can barely even remember. To avoid recent bias, even when comparing the story for Tlou 2 to GoT, I can distinctly remember what happened in the former, rather than the latter. I'm not sure where you brought up 5 min walking segments plastered throughout either game (2018 and GOWR) - whereas I remember facing dragons, valkyries, berserkers, trolls, elves, ogres, and well - gods. I also remember travelling in and out of the nine realms - keeping in mind that these aren't even traditionally open world games. They have exploration - again, for Ragnarok - I distinctly recall two Hafgufa rescues, a giant lake creature in Svartalfheim, a Draken encounter, multiple more dragon encounters, and these are all side quests that somehow incorporated a better level of dialogue and variety than many of Ghost of Tsushima's main quests. Comparing both doesn't make sense because I'm comparing a Norse mythology setting for one game and a samurai setting for another - one full of fantasy, the other very much grounded. Combat - as varied as the stealth mechanics were, most encounters would end up in swordplay for me, whereas I was having a pretty great time alternating between the axe, blades and spear as well as their light and heavy runic attacks - it never got old for me. Sekiro is a far better example of samurai gameplay for me, so I'd rather compare that with GoT than the God of war games - since it'd make sense to compare samurai games' combat with each other. The horizon games were a pain to finish. I can go on and on about them but since you've highlighted how boring and repetitive they feel, I believe we're on the same page. As for your final sentence.. I couldn't agree more; BOTW and Elden ring have set a very high standard and no other open world game can reach it right now.
I remember time when games were hilarious, wild, focussed on gameplay instead of only graphics, stories were meaningful or twisted. Now it feels like that there isjust too many games already, all stories has been already told... political correctness and woke agendas has invaded even gaming indutries and only thing game developers think is how to make extra bucks... so they sell unfinished games and add costly dlcs and season passes later. There is few exceptions but mostly that's how it is today. And u are right those exceptions are mostly Indie game developers and games.
I love how you talk to some imaginary developers like those people don't already know all that and aren't just shackled by the people handling the money. WE KNOW.
BG3 failed.
Dragon's Crown is better than any open wordl game. Why? Because it has amazing variety in combat. The dialog and story ss classic simple yet exciting. It has loads of items weapons, magic and special attacks. The art worl is GORGEOUS! Gorgeous yet it doesn't take away from the gamrplay. Epic boss battles. Sexy women to fit your tastes. The most legendary boss battles of all time. And it doesn't overstay it's welcome. The only thing open worlds do different is. More empty space between you and the quest. Run to a town to get a quest. Run to the quest marker . Each town does the same thing yet they think they need 20 of them? Dragon,'s crown does it better.
I agree that bad open world games exist. But in my opinion, just because shitty open world games exist does not mean that all open world games suck. Open world is my favorite genre, but only when it’s done right.
I agree with everything you said. You might have a similar taste in video games like I do. Could you recommend games from the last 10 years? My fav games are Super Metroid, Zelda alttp, Half Life 2 + Portals. More modern games I enjoyed: Hollow Knight (aweeesome), Ori 1+2, God of War (2018) and Zelda botw.
It's a very very excessive list for me to put out in a single comment 😅 Do take a look at some of the games I praise a lot in this video and the one about value for money! some of my favourite games of all time include Breath of the wild, super mario odyssey, God of war (2018 as well!), Nier Automata, Persona 5, Souls games (Bloodborne, Sekiro, DS3 and Elden ring are exceptional), Resident evil games (Re2 remake, re4, re8), Monster Hunter games (world and iceborne most recently, freedom unite way before that). I also play a looottttt of Nintendo games! Notable indie games: Hollow knight, Undertale, Ori, Tunic, Inscryption, Slay the spire, Celeste, Cuphead just to name a few! I'll try to cover a lot more of these games in future videos, and at the end of the year I'll put out my favourite games for the 2022! Stick around my friend! :D
@@crazycowpoke Tried, it is for sure a good game. But the actual GAMEPLAY feels so clunky (both movement and gunplay), I can not force myself to play that just for the story and atmosphere. The gameplay has to be good, as that is what distinguishes games from other media like movies.
So now we're complaining about sequels. Sigh. So some are pissed old games aren't remade or get sequels others are pissed that we get em. I don't like games being buggy on release when there an unplayable mess. But an occasional bug. Like the mammoth falling from the sky or random dead dragon. In skyrim. Those are 😁 😂 And they don't break the game. I had a wonderful time with ac. Oddessy. But then there's people that complain it's different than a.c. But then over here no it has to be innovative and different. Can the game community make up its mind. I don't like the yearly cod. Becuase fps is boring. To me never enjoyed the genre. But wat about the people that do. Should companies not put out future titles under a i.p Or remake em. Perhaps there is I don't know a market for that
