How about trigger jobs including changing springs? Ever do a video on that? I recently changed springs and polished moving parts in a S & W 36 and a 686. I would not go back to what they were from the factory. Same with other handguns and rifle triggers. Love to hear your take on the subject.

I like to swap out the return spring on my revolvers that works wonders on a factory pull and still keeps the hammer drop weight stock to ensure primer ignition. It takes a mere 15 minutes and 15 bucks. Rumors about self defense issues and a modified gun is hogwash.

It is funny that a person with fixed sights who shoots a lot will out shoot a person with adjustable sights that shoots little. Know your gun is more important.

I have a S&W 681, the forerunner to the 686. Stainless, 4-inch barrel, Hogue grips. I shoot that gun just fine with fixed sights. I’m not competition target shooting from 25-50 yards. I’m pointing/aiming center mass in my living room. I think it’ll work.

I prefer adjustable sights. I’ll admit my Henry’s are spot on, but that hasn’t been the case with other guns that I own, that I’ve since converted to adjustable.

Yup. I had a cheap Rossi essentially a Saturday night special and its fixed sights had the point of impact about a foot low and a foot right of the point of aim. Adjustable sights and better guns are my preference as well.

I don't know if it holds true with hand guns, but me and a friend have swapped rifles when target shooting and notice although we can shoot accurately there does seem to be a small difference in point of impact between the two which could be adjusted for.

I almost always buy my firearms with adjustable sights for one reason- it ups the desirability and thus, the resale value.

The only thing I disagree with Hickok is on ballistol… it smells so bad just the sight of it in this video causes distress.

For target shooting it's a must. For self defence and short distances not necessarily. In Germany you better forget a gun when the distance is 6 m or more. As a max!!!!!!

@@gregb6469 You have to flee take cover and call the police. Study the German Gun law and you'll cry. Even if you have a gun (legal) you first have to give a warning shot and then have to try to hit a leg.

I had a Star PD which has adjustable sights and I did shoot everything from 185 to 255 grains and blow me down the adjustable sights simply reset themselves because of the recoil...

At the end of the day, if you can put the boolits where you want with boring regularity then you are good to go. On the other hand if your projectiles are hitting far left, adjustable sights are worth their weight in gold!

Each have their purpose, but these past couple of years I have been practicing more with my EDC, I actually prefer the simplicity and durability of fixed sights. Its more important to get out there and shoot, which is always fun and builds musscle memory and confidence like no other. If you are shooting bullseye from a rest for fun or competition, adjustable sights are handy to have, but other than that I prefer fixed on my handguns

I don’t mind tapping a sight left or right, but I’ve always wondered why guns don’t come with or have easily available a set of sights to adjust elevation. I have several guns and the elevation hold seems to be 6 inches different up or down at 60 ft. I’d like to know my hold is always the same.

Precision engineering and fixed sights are fine (e.g. S&W Model 10). The biggest value of adjustable sights to me is that the rear sight is just larger. I had a tier 2 brand semi auto with adjustable sights that shot right of POA due to a mechanical (machining) issue. I drifted that rear sight to the edge of the slide and could not correct the issue (verified by other shooters)…traded it.

With my old eyes I seem to prefer the fixed sights because I'm not generally gonna shoot any target beyond 15 yards for there's no need too !!! For example my 1952 post war Smith & Wesson Regulation Police .38s&w caliber and yes my early 2000's/3rd gen. Colt .45 Colt SAA with its fixed sights as well for I can't seem to miss any target out to 15 yards for they are just that accurate !!! Oh but I do have pistols with fully adjustable rear sights I just simply prefer the old school fixed sights instead and if you know how to aim with the fixed sights you simply won't miss your targets again for me that's out to 15 yards !!!

I have a couple of 100+ year old budget revolvers (US Revolver Co. and H&R) with fixed sights. They shoot over 12 inches High and Left at 5 yards. With some practice I can hit tin cans, but that's a lot of Kentucky windage.

Exactly 100% It's all personal preference anyway but I'm old school with my old eyes prefer the fixed sights for I'm not shooting any target beyond 15 yards anyway !!!

Dad was NYPD. He retired in 1968 and for 22 years he carried a M&P .38 special. When I bought a model 19 his comment on the adjustable sight was. What do you do if your sights were knocked out in a combat situation, Say “hold on while I adjust my sights”. So he makes a valid point.

Adjustable sights are, IMO, only good for Target Shooting! I also believe Adjustable Sights are used a lot for Rifle Shooting as well as Scopes & Red Dot Sights! Having said this, I have never had any use for adjustable sights on any of my revolvers or semi auto's which I use for self defense only! Ib guess there are those who Hunt with a Revolver and might have to use adjustable sights. So in conclusion, I have to say that adjustable sights are for certain applications of firearm use, period!

if you are target shooting the sights are fine. if someone is shooting at you believe me you don't use the sights. it's point and shoot. i used a sw model 66 4 inch at work. it had sights but they were only used at the range we went to once a month in the summer.

On a carbine yes but there fuggly on a pistol to me just personal preference but yes on ar9 pcc a red dot is not just sexy looking but darn accurate out to 30 or 50 yards with my old eyes !!!

@@Saintlawrence100 since fixed are fixed to a theoretical load from the manufacturer I prefer adjustable. It bothers me when I have to offset because I’m using 125gn but it was fixed to 158gn. Another nice thing about adjustable is you can adjust them to the sight picture you like to hold. I see where you are coming from and that’s why it’s nice to have options. I’m glad people can see the value in options though and not think their opinion is fact.

FACT. Shoot just as well with my Colt Python with adjustable sights, as I do with my Colt Lawman snub with fixed. 😂 Truth I've discovered is if they're adjustable from the factory, you're likely going to have to adjust them to hit with them! They're gonna be off out of the box! 😂
