A good premium dual sport can cover the entire spectrum. I’ve taken my CRF450L on motocross tracks, gnarly single track, multi-day rides of several hundred miles, and daily jaunts on back roads both paved and unpaved. I’ve even taken it to Starbucks for genuine ADV cred. All I’ve left to do to cover the entire spectrum is strap a milk crate to it.
I’m just an old guy on a 23 KLR Adventure, trying to hit every pass in CO and BDR in the west. I’ll get a KLX 300 for the places the KLR can’t easily go. No matter what thpe bike I ride or where, I’m just One Rider...Good episode; sub.
Great discussion. I live in the south west United States and there is gobs of great adventure riding here. In fact when I see some of these "adventure" riders in the UK i'm sad for them. I'm currently riding a KTM 790 Adventure S. Almost bought a Honda Africa Twin but it felt a little heavy for off road purposes. The percentage thing is really true. I'm about 60-40 pavement to dirt. Although I'm currently sporting Pirelli Scorpion tires which look like 100% street tires but are pretty OK off road.
yea, I started desert racing at first and trail riding, then got into Enduro and have now moved more towards Adventure riding, but I still bounce back to the former types now and then!
Living in SE of the USA, I do not see that many differences between the dirt disciplines. Enduro, trials, Adventure riding all shares many similarities as well as terrain around here. What is foreign to me is the cruising community. I feel like I have so little in common with those riders, and virtually zero desire to throw a leg over a Harley and leave all my protection at home to ride through town in flip flops!!
I dont own one but yeah for road leagal machine that attacks gravel and dirt roads and pulls wheelies , cant go past the mighty Suzuki D R 400 also known as the Dog Rooter , amazing bikes after market 20 litre tank option is epic too . For me i want a all rounder for higwway riding aswell but always been open to medium size engines, my current Bike is a honda Cb400 single cylinder with all terrains and coby exhaust, sinthink ill be saving up for a W800 slapping some all terrains on it , was leaning towards a Royal enfeild interceptor but think my heart is set on the Kawasaki W800 as my building platform,
Greetings to ALL my humble opinion it depends what the motorcyclist enjoys and the environment she / he lives at or in meaning if he / she live in the city well they might opt for a motorcycle for that type of environment or if she / he live in Alaska or the Desert then they hopefully will opt according to the surrounding environment Enjoy
Started trail riding at14 , then bigger and bigger bikes, some road, competed in trials for 10 years now ds and road as I age. Dont think many dis trials as most havent a clue about it.😊
