The Rose of the Prophet trilogy is really interesting and unique. Of course I read it over 20 years ago so my memory of it isn't super clear, but I remember enjoying the world a great deal.
The Death Gate series is still one of my favorites. I found them very compelling and loved the magic system and the emotional weight and evolution of the characters
Been awhile since I've been to your corner of RU-vid and I'm so glad to see how much the channel has grown and that you're still covering older fantasy where as most book tubers now a days only cover what's new and "hot". Which is all well and good but the oldies need loving too!
The other day I found what looked like the entire Dragonlance saga at the Thrift store. I placed them all next to one another. Came back the following week and they were all gone. I have never read them before but I heard that they were good. Love listening to your voice. Thanks for the video Amy.
I read both Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends when I was in my 20s and was blown away. After having read countless Forgotten Realms and Ravenloft novels (along with LOTR and Narnia series as a kid), I was not prepared for how amazing those Dragonlance novels would be and they are among the best I have ever read. I had a goal of reading all Dragonlance novels at one point, but I had a difficult time with some of the other writers (I think I burned out during the Preludes series), though I want to go back and finish them some day. I've also heard amazing things about the Death Gate Cycle, so that's still on my reading list as well. I am curious if the later Weis/Hickman novels remain as good as their earlier works as it's been my experience that authors tend to decline over time, though sometimes they bounce back.
Surprised there's no discussion of their Sovereign Stones series. The word felt pretty interesting even if the countries that populated it were a bit boilerplate in design. The twist going from book one to two was also unexpected to read.
For me, most fans of this channel and Chronicles would certainly enjoy the Legends series featuring Raistlin, Caramon and Kitiara. Really helps to show the Dragonlance strength as a setting where the authors (and MANY others) have made more in depth explorations of narrower characters and themes while also allowing the grand spectacle of the world. Fefeyating Khisanth and Verminaard and freeing the slaves is great and all, but personal failings and conflicts give life to the world.
I've read a few of their series (Weis/Hickman) and they are my favorite authors of all time. I have attention issues that makes reading other books take way longer than it should as I constantly have to keep re-reading the same sections. I've never had that issue with their books however. I've read Weis' solo Mina trilogy (Amber and Ash) and Hickman's solo The Immortals and they are pretty good but TOGETHER THEY ARE MAGIC! Thanks!
