@@phogetta1 John 19:11...Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
I believe the intention is really important. There are people who seek to hurt others as much as possible, there are people who don't want to hurt anybody, yet they still sin. That's one of the key factors for me when it comes to sin. How much pain has been caused to others (not self) with that particular sin should denote how serious the sin is. For example, I have had my only copy of my pictures stolen from me to deliberately hurt me. They have no value to anyone, yet it is worse than someone stealing one million dollars. Nothing can replace them. No amount of money can undo that particular sin. Some things just can't be repaired (just like death, illness or something along those lines) and the amount of pain they cause is enormous. You can't compare it to someone who steals food, for example. Both are sins, but they don't have the same weight.
For the wages of sin is death.....that pretty much sums up my opinion on if all sin is equal. Some might have higher earthly penalties but they will all condemn you to eternal separation from God......Hell.
Agreed. In the end, we are all equally in need of God's grace so to try to say something is "more sinful" than something else leads you to start acting like a Pharisee. Because you are just trying to avoid those certain sins that you deem worse than others and don't have a transformation of the heart. I disagree with A LOT that John Piper says.
all sins are not equal stop it. have thoughts of vengeance and imagining punching someone hard in the face and make him bleeding and suffering (for exemple) is not the same as be a little bit too proud... men, there is huges différences between sins, every major sins would seperate you from god, but your soul (astral body), change of nature (becomes darker) everytime you commit sins, but there is sins (nature of the thoughts is what change your soul since the soul is your personnality) which makes your soul change way more than others sins im sorry... then , when you are in hell, i think there is levels of hell according to how dark your soul has became...
Eduardo diaz: well, the bible doesnt talk about everything man, the bible doesnt talks about the astral projection, about what kind of stuffs demons can do when they are into your soul and how they can manipulate your physicals reactions, how by astral projection in cults such as santeria you curse entire geographicals zones with demonic influences... the bible doesnt talks about everything, it's the Truth, right, but you can as well look for informations on others cults to know how they deceive, their arguments and how to destroy their arguments... some warlocks or people which have divination abilties because the demon they are in connection with are able to see the souls of the peoples and the souls change of natures when you have hatred orwhen you have sexual feeling without being protected by the marriage (god), that's how unclean spirit enter into your body actually, because your soul activity change, that's why they can enter into your soul...
Matthew 23 YLT "'Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye eat up the houses of the widows, and for a pretence make long prayers, because of this ye shall receive more abundant judgment."
Somehow I have the distinct impression that lying to someone by telling them that they look good in an outfit which does not really compliment them is a far cry from murdering someone. Then again, maybe that's just that pesky common sense kicking in.
Good answer Pst. John; glory to God! I would like to add a verse which talked about sins leading to death and those not leading to death (1 John 5:16-17); this confirms your explanation of sin's consequences. God bless
James was addressing the issue of sin period. That one offense against the law condemns the sinner, regardless which sin he committed. Paul put it more bluntly: "for all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory" and "there is none righteous, no not one..." In other words, all stand condemned before God. All are guilty. However, are there tiers of punishment in hell for different sins, that is a completely different question.
I chose Jesus as my God because of everything I have witnessed, healings, peoples lives have changed before my eyes. There have been too many coincidences for me not to think that it is the God that I worship. I have felt his presence and I have felt his love. For the record, not all Christians or 'religious people' are close minded, if anything that shows that you are in your assumption. I can understand why people don't believe, sometimes I have doubts, but I go from my personal experience
very true! I'm sure getting crucified is extremely terrible, but it is nothing compared to the wrath and rejection of God, that must have been the worst part
I don't believe the consequences of all sin is equal - it isn't. It's obvious that a child who is molested has to pay consequences that are far greater than those his grandmother has to pay when he steals $ from her purse. These are human perspectives, and human responses, but it's not what God seems to be saying. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death. There are no qualifiers there, no hierarchy involved. To God, sin is sin is sin.
The sin unto death is found in the following verse of Jeremiah 7. The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, 2 “Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house and proclaim there this word and say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah, who enter by these gates to worship the Lord!’” 3 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. 4 Do not trust in deceptive words, saying, ‘[a]This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’ 5 For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly practice justice between a man and his neighbor, 6 if you do not oppress the alien, the [b]orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your own ruin, 7 then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever. 8 “Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail. 9 Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery and swear falsely, and [c]offer sacrifices to Baal and walk after other gods that you have not known, 10 then come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’-that you may do all these abominations? 11 Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” declares the Lord. 12 “But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I made My name dwell at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel. 13 And now, because you have done all these things,” declares the Lord, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you but you did not answer, 14 therefore, I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave you and your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. 15 I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brothers, all the [d]offspring of Ephraim. 16 “As for you, do not pray for this people, and do not lift up cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me; for I do not hear you. This verse Jeremiah :1-16 points out there sin an what happens when you don't repent. Proverb 17:15 He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord. I wish you peace, a shalom!
Exactly right! All Christians have the same righteousness--Christ's righteousness--imputed to them, but all non-Christians pay for their own sins and since all people sin differently, all sinners will be punished differently. Depending on what and how they sinned.
There is an unforgivable sin, all sin can be forgiven man, but sin against the holy spirit shall not be forgiven!!! Rejecting the holy spirit of God Almighty, is not forgiven !!!
I don't think people really know how easy it is for sin to come into there lives..I am struggling with this myself , we are all sinners even if we pray go to church read the bible and are totally devoted to God.. It's a sin for our souls to be in bondage to this meat suit. HECK...A pretty woman could walk by and a man looks her way he just dinner by Adultry in his heart...If we didn't have sin in this physical realm we wouldn't need a Savior in Christ Jesus..God has got this stuff figured out ...

Okay we (hopefully) agree that the law should be fair? God is the Perfect Judge we will be on trial. You have been found guilty, you can't respond by saying "look at all the good things I've done, I'm basically a good person." The wages of sin are death, but Jesus steps in and says 'I will take the punishment for your sin for you if you want, I love you that much.' Why would you not take that? It's foolishness
All sin puts you in a state of rebellion from the will of God, and so all sin requires a sacrifice which was made by Christ. In the Old covenant different sins required different sacrifices, but Christ is enough sacrifice for all sin. So either you are in a state of rebellion and so whatever you do is sin or you are in fellowship with Christ walking in the light and free from sin and the law. When you walk by the spirit you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. When the Spirit or your own conscience convicts you your choice is to rebel against the Spirit or to repent and continue fellowship with Christ.
I'm an agnostic meaning I'm humble enough to admit I don't know..... I'm not rebelling nor am I walking g with Christ. However I do my best to do the right thing at all times. According to you, me doing the right thing is a sin...... God gave you a brain for a reason. Please use it.
A sin is a sin. You shall still make it to Heaven if you repent. Although I there are levels of rewards in Heaven. As a personal comment. I am a faul sinner, I know God with all my heart, though I constantly keep fallin under temptation, I need to be more of an example likewise God's son. Do not mislead, No flesh in this world is pure or perfect. It's Effort love and Faith that God seeks from us as well as preaching his word and winning souls
Yo John, YOU Sir, explain things so well the way you break it all down and then decipher how it actually is! THANK YOU! God Bless you infinitely John! Merry Christmas.
Christmas and Easter are pagan holidays. Obviously Halloween being the devil's holiday. A huge mistake Christians make is celebrating Christmas and Easter. These festivities are satanic and an abomination unto God. They have nothing to do with God and Jesus Christ at all. In Jeremiah the Bible talks about how evil the Christmas tree is.
He forgot to quote Galatians 5:14. "For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Therefore, if one commits any sin, one is guilty of all the law because he has not loved his neighbor as himself.
'Being in a church makes you a christian just as much as standing in a garage makes you a car'. If you love God that much and really trust in him you find more and more you want to sin less and less. Are you really a christian if you just pray 'the prayer'? No, you actually have to follow God and christ otherwise it's pointless. However it would make God's love pointless if he couldn't reach and save even the most screwed up person. After all, what loving God would only be loving to some people?
We rely on the King James Bible, and it's because it has stood the test of time. Prophesy that was spoken of thousands of years ago have come to pass, and by the way there aren't a whole lot left. Get a King James Bible and read the book of John, it's full of salvation scriptures. It will be a blessing to you.
@margovallen Here's an article on the subject: wwwDOTcarmDOTorg/questions-sins-equal Just replace "DOT" with a period. Also: did you look up the verses I referenced? Revelation 20:11-15, etc.?
@margovallen ...Err...no, it says it will be more tolerable in the day of judgment than for certain people. How am I misinterpreting it? Why will they be judged out of the books if their punishments will be the exact same?
The Bible says Sin separates you from God, whether it that or that. Second a man who wishing to keep the Law of Moses has to do everything it says or he has broken the Law. In civil law if you jay walk where it doesn't permit it or if you commit murder, in both cases you have broken the the law.
We’re all damaged goods. That damage is evident in our lives and it’s displayed in a multitude of ways. Only one thing makes us whole again in the eyes of God…and that’s Christ.
"If you have offended in ONE point of the law, you have broken them all". How many commandments did Adam break that caused DAMNATION and DEATH to fall upon ALL mankind? ONE.
This scripture here clears this up. 1 John 5:16If any man see his brother sin a sin which isnot unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.5:17All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
I think reading James 2:8-13 makes it very clear. If you murder someone, it is obvious that you do not love your neighbor. Even though you did not commit adultery or break other commandments.
Remember he wasn't afraid of the cross, the nails, or the thorns on his head, what he was agonizing over is the fact that he had to drink the cup. What was in the cup that He prayed might pass if it was God's will??? It was the wrath of God that Jesus agonized over. He was made sin who knew no sin.
1Cr 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 1Cr 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Jesus faced the exact temptations that we do. He hungered, he thirst, he was tempted by satan, and remained faithful to the Father. It took a perfect sacrafice for our sins. A sinful person cannot redeem another sinner. Jesus was perfect, and had to be.
God can't have any sin around him , so you are guilty of all if you try to be saved by law , but if you believe in Christ then you are saved by grace . Law is only mirrior to show you that you are ughly , it does not help you become pretty .
the question as I heard.. is are big and small sin are equal..?? that's the issue or topic here brethren.. on my own as basing in the Bible God teach us or He said that a sin still a sin either big or small..both of the two can't even go beyond or near for salvation.. God teach us love not sin.. so either you like it or not God look upon us equal.. it also in sinning. no other way to see the Father except Jesus.. and that's mean Love..
JP said, sin is sin in the sight of God but unequal. This doesn't justify anyone of us to continue sinning thinking a neighbors sin is greater than yours. The bible says sin against the holy spirit is unforgivable, thus eternal condemnation. JP also quoted saying the punishment for the knowing of God's word is greater than the unknown, this to me seems that, God does not see or value every sin the same.
Why judge your brother when you should worry about the stick in your eye that Jesus spoke of applies to our state of being in today's world, this has many applications to so many offences were living today....please God grant us wisdom to find Peace...🕊️🌿
I think the point is that any sin, big or small, is still a sin and still ultimatwly leads to death. However, that does not mean that all sins are equal.
Hell was designed for satan and his fallen angels, not humans. Remember God said no one will be without excuse and that He has given us enough proof in creation, and He also says that He wrote His law on our hearts or on our conscience. You know there is a God, now you have to make the choice to open the door and invite Him in.
@margovallen (Revelation 20:12-13 NKJV) - "And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. {13} The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works."
Mmm...so we not forgiven of all our sins? We need to go account for them? We not washed clean as filthy rags. And when James say you brake 1 commanment you broke all he is wrong? I think we have a problem here. Gods promises is being twisted here.
@SeventyTimesSeven490 I have my own burdens; it's called living my life and working to make things better for myself. Acknowledging the self isn't dying; it's the opposite.
When God gave Moses the Law and ordinances He(God) set forth different degrees of punishment or penalty for various sins. God even referred to some sins as being so wicked that He call them an "abomination".
Yup. Look up Mathew 19:26. We cannot save ourselves, we need God in our lives to help us to sort out our sin. He doesn't want to condemn us, he wants to help us. It is only through Christ's death that we have been set free from sin and death. I hope you realise this someday, merry christmas :)
Jesus said go into all the nations and preach the gospel, whoever believes will be saved, whoever doesn't will be condemned. "If you reject the trinity" wasn't literal, just a great example of what will happen when you reject what the Bible has to say about salvation.
@margovallen Well then, according to that, I am lost. What do you make of this verse? (John 19:11 NKJV) - ' "Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin." '
well if we want to know what God thinks of sin in general we should look at the cross how serious He is about sin in general and no matter how big or small sin is it is still a sin but we both can agree that there is only one sin that God wont forgive and that is the sin or rejection of the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews Chapter 6 4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. Hebrews Chapter 12 16Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
Every wrong doing has it's consequence , doesn't the Bible say tell your sins to others and they are lessoned or diminished, confess, be honest with Jesus, he knows best especially in these last days where the world is a MESS
You're missing the point entirely. "According to GOD, are all sins the same" Not "how they affect man and other people". This doesnt answer the question at all. The short answer is YES. Romans 6:23. There is a single punishment of DEATH, not "stripes" (which that verse in Luke is a parable) for someone who merely tells a lie.
All sins are equal meaning all sins are detestable to God. People trying to give sins degrees of severity is just them trying to justify the sin to a palpable scale. ALL SIN separates us from God...period. tell yourself it's not "that bad" if you want but God gave us direction for a reason. Please just repent and try to turn from that sin. There are no loopholes to serving God.
@margovallen The Trinity has many, many verses pointing to it. Could you please share some verses that you believe point to all sins being equal in God's Eyes? No degrees of sin in God's Eyes.
@margovallen No, it's not near all I have. But it talks about a "greater sin", thus meaning there are "lesser" and "greater" sins. Greater cannot exist without a lesser.
This will encouraged people to do lesser sin...lesser sin can't cause life loss but can kill another person soul.Your explaination kinda weak.So what is the punishment for lesser sin? 20 years in hell?.If i lied to my friend by accusing his wife cheating ,sleeping with another man, then he kill his wife.My sin is lying while his sin is murder...am i guilty of a lesser sin?.Sin will bring forth death...did God reffering to certain sin or all sin.?
Off course there are level of sin ,if there are not than why we must go away from doing big sin as all human Will sin ? And the fact There is number in this world of reality. Little sin got small punishment and bigger sin got bigger punishment ,that is justice
@SeventyTimesSeven490 So I'll only know the truth about God and Christianity if I join your group and believe, despite the fact that your holy text, words and actions are available for all? Tell me why that's not suspicious.
God also stated that what a man thinketh he essentially does. So say I am angry enough to envision killing someone (for clarification I am not nor have I ever been HA) or I kill them outright it is the same sin. So how can there be degrees of sin when logically we would think one of those is indeed worse than the other but God sees them the same. Both need to be repented for. Guess I'm questioning that aspect.
If every sin is INFINITELY heinous, what can it possibly mean to say that one sin is bigger or smaller than another. Please, have a clear understanding of the words you use before speaking them.
@margovallen That doesn't address the issue. God is the same now as if He was then. So why, then, if all sins are the same in His Sight, were there different punishments? After all, stealing a paperclip is the same as murdering women and children, isn'ti t? That doesn't even make logical sense, let alone Biblical sense. Your position that all sins are the same is baseless. Where in Scripture do you get that? And how do you explain greater and lesser judgments, etc., etc.?
A few thoughts. 1. Your comment about the one Creator having a relationship and caring about one "insignificant" person is a good question. Let me ask you though, have you ever wondered what that feels like to know you are loved by someone so perfect? Or talked to someone who truly lives by this faith? There are miracles each day that we cannot explain, does this mean we have a small brain capacity, or is God still at work today? Cont'd
