I really think fructose is poison. I’m in my late 50s coming from a culture where we ate a lot of fruits thinking that fruits are the same in America not knowing every food has been manipulated and made more sugary. I developed diabetes and neuropathy which I still suffer from. I really feel that the culprit was fructose in my diet because I consumed a lot of it by eating fruits and specially dry fruits. Now I consume very little fruits. Anytime I eat fruits my Neuropathy gets worse.
Depends alot on your genotype. Some can consume loads of sugar in their diet and never develop diabetes. But others have the type of genetics whereby they are @ higher risk for diabetes, and too much sugar in their diet will push them into a diabetic state.
I am new to listening to you and am really enjoying your podcast. Thanks for all of the content, and you do such a wonderful job of asking questions to clarify studies and explain mechanisms. A side note, I pick wild blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries every summer and they are by far better tasting then store bought. I'm not wanting to be rude, just incase you haven't tried them they are much better. 😊 and I believe much more nutrient dense as well.
So should I give up my 100% Pomegranate juice? Doc you hit it on the head. I was a firm believer of ingesting fruit post workout rather its mixed in my shake or drinking a cup of Pomegranate juice
When I was younger than the majority of my diet was fruit I was a huge fan of fruit I loved eating fruit like five times a day I used to binge on fruit and I felt great I had endless energy I was like the Energizer Bunny eating lots of fruit I enjoyed it but I know now looking back it wasn't enough, many years later the majority of my diet now is protein healthy fats some carbs not as many carbs as I used to eat, I don't enjoy my diet but I know this is better for my body I still eat fruit in the form of dried fruit sometimes I have a cup of berries once in a while, and when I do eat dried fruit it's only 28 or 40 grams that's it once a day not every day eaten with other foods,, I still love food I will always love fruit but I know I can't eat it like I used to , it's funny how the best diet for your body probably might not be the one you enjoy but I'm just speaking for myself
@@antonjirout because I realized that I needed to spend the majority of my calorie budget on protein and healthy fats to rebuild my body after years of breaking it down From doing too much cardio and not eating enough protein and fix my unhealthy hormones from not eating good quality fats, fruits are delicious they did give me lots of energy but in the end they're not going to help me get to where I need to be at this point in my life for my physical health goals
@MariaBrinks25 I agree with your strategy to go higher protein & fat in your diet, with less fruits. If you had high energy with alot of fruit,it could have been constant sugar highs.... but what goes up must come down. So, imo that was not a healthy way to eat. Dried fruit has the highest ratio of sugar to fiber than any other form of fruit - possibly higher than the fructose content of fruit juices (I think, but not entirely sure on that). But I do know that dried fruit is highly concentrated form of fructose. You are better off eating the whole fruit (except bananas, especially ripe bananas). Bananas are very high in fructose just in their natural form. Some health scientists recommend only Green bananas (yuk!), if one is going to consume them, in order to avoid a high fructose content as they ripen. I used to eat a banana a day and had high blood sugar. Cut them out completely and my blood sugar went way down. I only buy a banana a month or so, which I do not consume (throw the fruit away but use the inside of the peel to rub on my 2 Fig tree's leaves lol). After cleaning their leaves of dust, I then rub the leaves with the inside of the banana peel, and they look gorgeous 😍
@@MariaBrinks25 Well, right. But the point I was trying to make was that dried fruits are a highly concentrated form of fructose. (Nevermind the bananas. I just went off on a tangent about them lol) But, (in my somewhat educated opinion) if you are going to consume fruits - the whole fruit is a healthier form, than even small amounts of dried fruits.
Fructose is GREAT for fattening up your liver & body esp if you are preparing to hibernate for months or faced with famine BUT I just avoid EVERYTHING with fructose as we do not make fructase like most all other animals.
I have to say I ordered and read Dr. Lyons book. I was rather disappointed. Nothing really different than most of the other social media docs are saying.😳
@theresamcdonald-smith5046 ...well, maybe for YOU at your level of knowledge. But for many others without your level of knowledge, Dr. Lyon's book is a Gold Mine of health-oriented information. All you've really only implied in your comment was that your level of knowledge (on this subject) is higher than the average person. I've read her book, and also knew alot of the data contained in the book (because I do follow her.) But I find the book to be an excellent resource for me to keep this information front & center. We can lose information - or get somewhat fuzzy on the facts, over time, if we are not constantly performing or active in this space (as would a clinician in this space be...who comes across this data nearly every day and rarely needs to review/ refresh.) JMO😊
Me too. Since you are asking, I presume you've already searched and came up empty. So, I'll probably not try to find one. Very much wish I could read this interview, though.
@dombarton Fiber, especially inulin, as well as butyrate-forming vegetable fiber, feeds the good bacteria in our microbiome. With an absence of fiber, our friendly bacteria can die out, and pathological (bad) bacteria can take over.
@@barbarafairbanks4578 fibre is not essential. A keto or carnivore diet achieves the same result, feeds the gut microbiome without any of the irritation fibre creates. Remember all fibre is plant based and all plant matter is not required by any human on the planet. Animal food provides everything in the most bioavailable and species appropriate forms.
@@dombarton2483 My knowledge base informs me that fiber is essential for feeding the microbiome. Yours is apparently different. Therefore, agree to disagree😁 Otherwise, we're just repeating the same thing to one another. Have a good one!😉 P.S. - that said, it is true that different populations (different parts of the world) have divergent microbiomes - So, some demographics have probably adjusted to a state where fiber is non-essential - for them. So, we cannot talk in absolutes in a discussion about whether (globally) fiber is essential for microbiome health. It isn't binary.
@@barbarafairbanks4578 fibre is not essential at all. Show me any reference that states fibre is essential for humans. A keto or carnivore diet feeds your microbiome very nicely indeed.
