If aluminum is cheap then replacing the (much smaller) battery won’t be that bad, right? Instead of going to a refueling station, you get a battery swap that could be done in an automated fashion. I imagine it’d be similar to pulling up to a car wash. When you pull up, a sign tells you when to stop. The battery is replaced from the underside of the chassis and then you’re good to go. If you can get a longer range for a cheaper price than LIon (or fossil fuels), that’d be a great selling point.
Ya, the cheap aluminum claim is a MASSIVE LIE. I crunched the numbers just now. The cost of the aluminum which is consumed in this battery costs about SIX TIMES the cost of electricity which can be purchased from the grid to charge a lithium-ion battery. Any honest reviewer would point that out.
What about Oxygen required per unit of electricity produced and the quantity of aluminium consumed etc. assuming it will not be economic to recover it from the oxidised form.
Hey Nikki! At the 3:13 mark these look simliar to the leaked Tesla Batteries from Electrek yesterday. Can's of creamed corn or great advancements in tech? :)
One of my professors was working on research for aluminum air oxide batteries 6 years ago... If these get big I'm for sure going to be buying stocks in the company with the first product to market
