I'm an Arsenal fan. Unai is a fantastic manager. I'm glad we have Arteta. Wouldn't change that for anything. But Unai came to us at the wrong time. Our backroom was a mess and he needed more time than the fanbase could give him. He language barrier was huge. He just needed more grace to grasp the language to transmit his ideas. It's really clear Villa is taking to his tactics. Really happy for those fans because they're a good base.
The players we have doesn’t want to sit an hour being overloaded with info when 15 minutes of concise summary would suffice and the players do the rest on their time.
@@MrDwightKSchrute I meant in relation to Arsenal. As an Arsenal fan myself, no one can deny that he's not an excellent manager. At that time, our dressing room was a little toxic, and so the players got him fired by not playing for him. Also, the Villa players say he's demanding but his style, training and tactics has them with a 60% win rate from 45 or so games, so it clearly works if you stick with him and play like he wants you to play.
@@gentleken7864As a Villa fan I think you are right about his Arsenal time. I think he had the right ideas but I think anyone coming in after Wenger was likely to be a failure as from the owners, board to the players and fans there had to be a mindset change. My take on Emery, firstly thank you Gerrard for being such an awful Manager in such a short space of time...without him we would not have Emery. He is the right fit for us, we love the guy just as a human being as he is very thoughtful, honest and such a hard worker and he is quite brilliant as well. As fans we are always learning something about the game, so I can't imagine what it must be like for the players as he has improved every single player, we are still virtually the same team that was 17th under Gerrard.
Luckily for Villa there is another transfer window between the ned of the group stages and the start of the knockout rounds in Europe. As such we'll hopefully be able to bring in some more reinforcements. Potentially another RB and maybe a CDM as well as one more attacking player. We have consistently been linked with nico Williams for the past year and if we are in top 4 places come January perhaps he'd be willing to consider us.
The team and manager are too good not to be considered and they've shown such good consistency in performance and results. Hard to argue with anyone claiming they could do it, they've got every right, but this season is pretty wild
Brilliant analysis, fantastic insight into Aston villa, that left side last season was brilliant for villa, and they should be back for the Christmas period
I think the best part of being a Villa fan atm is the home form being SO good. We never used to have that kind of control and dominance at home and now it's a bit of a fortress, I now expect them to win most games at home. Away is definitely trickier right now, we have to be better, though I will say going to Newcastle and Liverpool are some of the toughest games you can get.
The Newcastle game was just too early for Villa who were trying to bed in new players, four key players injured and against a Newcastle side that looked great pre-season from the off. Both will finish in the top 6.
I honestly don't think so. Would be nice of them to do it, like Newcastle did last year, but I can't see them having the consistency to get in there come end of season. 6th would be a great achievement.
@@jeriswani6062 I didn't think much of them on the opening day of the season. In general they've been relatively consistent up to this point, I just can't personally see it lasting. Happy to be proven wrong, as I was last season with Newcastle.
Perfectly put...our big players lost to injury have cost us and if we had kept them and with UNI doing his magic we would be 2nd and in a very strong 4th placed position... With a good signing in January and 2 I'm the summer then we will be a real danger next season and we are already this season... VTID
Great analysis. Home form definitely needed root and branch surgery too many teams enjoyed playing at Villa Park. Now we go there just expecting the Villa to score even if the other team get one we'll go up another gear. Big few weeks for us to see where we're really at in terms of pushing the top 4, Spurs away, Arsenal and City at home.
Villa are proving why a club claiming "injury problems" is the reason for poor form is BS. Every team sufferes injuries every year and a good manager is able to reinvent the team to account for the loss of some key players.
I know we need to sort out our away form, but Man Utd’s away form last season was abysmal & they still managed top 4. Also top 5 will more than likely get ECL this season.
Nah, we need to get results against top teams like Arsenal, City, Liverpool for that kind of progress imo, our away form, Forest was terrible, controlled the game and conceded blunders, st james' park and anfield are two of the hardest places to go in the league so those are the other two, we'll improve our away form i'm sure.
No..its too early they are yet to play any big team at home due to which they are unbeaten at home and their away form is terrible look like a complete different team.
We've faced Brighton and West Ham (a bogey team for us)two top teams at home and I'd hardly call our away form terrible Newcastle (also one basically just before which changes things aswell) and Liverpool we had major injuries in those games and our tough away days anyways, Wolves are a bogey team for us and is a derby plus we really should've got a pen but oh well. Forest sure we shouldn't of lost against them the clash of the Midlands giants should've went in our favour but we had a off day it happens. Yes our away form needs to improve from what it's but that's hardly a big statement it certainly ain't terrible
Villa just needed a Spanish mastermind & not an old English meathead. With Emery they’re flying high & with Dean Smith they barely survived relegation on the last day of the season.
@@God_is_an_Atheist666 even if they don't finish top 4, they'll still be finishing 5th which will give them CL football since there's new updated UCL next season. On top of that, they'll get Conference League 100%.
@@babatunski6672 Conference League gets you Europa not UCL, right? Liv, City and Arsenal are guaranteed. Spurs with a full team is better and so is Newcastle. Top 5 is not guaranteed but they'll be challenging not to mention Chelsea look to be reviving themselves.
So 1) Emery gets the right plugs for his system - Tielemans and Bailey are better options than Zaniolo. 2) 2 of 3 away losses were at Anfield and St James park - any team would struggle there so Villa fans aren't at all panicked about away form. 3) Emery is excellent but these players are executing so they deserve just as much credit. Thank you for making this video and Up the Villa!
I am really happy that Villa has more and more attention from pundits and Tifo ( something like Newcastle last season). I hope that Emery's boys keep giving them reasons to doing it. For this video - not so great analysis - nobody spoke about a lot of goals coming from midfield players, a lot of assists coming from wings, comparison between teams we played in home ( some middle and low table teams) against visits ( Liverpool,Newcastle, Chelsea), you mentioned Mings has been injured but not mentioned how Konsa is growing up as leader in defense and ,finally, got an international call-up.... I know you can do better :)
About time Tifo have taken a positive look on Villa, was genuinely disappointed with the last couple videos with negative outlook (over-performing or have new signings made us worse) never understood the love teams in similar positions were getting even though Emery has held 2ppg since taking over
@@am5790 very true. I think as a fanbase we thought the coverage of Emery's success was a bit harsh before the season started. Glad he's continuing to do so well!
@@joaquinferrazzi923 that's like say Roberto Di Matteo is the greatest ever Chelsea manager... Just because he won the champions league. Same circumstances for Tony Barton who took over from Ron Saunders to lift the European cup for villa
@@joaquinferrazzi923 that's not true. I'm a villa fan.... Tony Barton is a hero for winning the cup but our league form was awful, then he eventually got the sack Emery league form in a calendar year is the best in our history. It's early days I know but I've never seen Villa play good football like this. Taking us from relegation to top 4 contenders all in the space of a year in incredible especially with all the injuries. He's a genius.
Brilliant that you focused on game state as that was a criticism of the previous video on Villa when only focusing on xG. I think the away from is both early goals conceded and the fact that three of our away games so far have been Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea. Toughest team we've played at home has been Brighton
Think both Newcastle and Liverpoool were effected by Mings injury as well and Pau taking a while to get hold of a complex highline defence. Also Konsa hadn't elevated fully until lately.
@@MindSurf248 Carlos went off injured early in the Liverpool game. With Mings off in Newcastle game. Losing the steel CBs early in two difficult games were factors for sure
@@joeyriches6218 i understood what he said. Did you understand what I said? Football under MON despite the results (mainly away from home) was generally turgid.
4th maybe, can't see us finishing ahead of City, Arsenal or Liverpool. Will be very difficult though with Newcastle and Spurs in contention, but if they struggle with injuries we could hopefully take advantage.
I said at start of season, based of transfer window and difficulty of European games that I believe that Villa would cope with the extra games better than Newcastle and Brighton. We have stronger squad depth and the way we play isnt as intensive. Newcastle always going to struggle playing a million miles an hour 3 times a week. I currently measure Villas position by how many points clear of these two teams we are (can start to throw Man Utd in there to a degree and if we get above Spurs as well). if we stay above them we at least get top 6 anything on top of this is a bonus. With our injuries being present from the start we've also had time to adapt as this video shows, all the teams below us that have had fresh injuries now have to adapt on the fly or just hope hope the incoming players can adapt, as we saw with Spurs Vs Wolves, this isnt going to be easy!
I feel like Villa's injuries are as bad if not worse than Newcastle's. Mings and Buendia out for the season, Moreno and Ramsey with big injuries too, that's 4 of our starting 11 yet to play.
Better than Spurs as a team/squad. Their style won't hold up all season. Emery is a class act. 4th Most decorated manager in Europe behind Pep, Jose and Ancelotti atm. Newcastle are very good too. Easily seen how Europe can tax a team that hasn't been in it in a while. Spurs don't have this issue. They'd not be as high if they'd europe aswell
I could definitely see Villa getting CL meaning top 5 this season… United, spurs and newcastle seem inconsistent and chelsea are playing catch up at this point
Champions league won’t be top 5 unless we get to be one of the best 2 leagues in Europe this season, and with Brighton, Man U, and Newcastle all being awful in Europe that doesn’t look likely
@@connor4435I'd hardly say Brighton's European form is terrible plus there's West Ham and Liverpool in Europa and City in Champions League to push it aswell as us in the Conference League
Villa fan here. I'm really pleased to finally see an in depth look at my team on Tifo, and I agree with most of this video, unfortunately the analysis of Villa's shape and Kamara's positional change is not accurate. Villa under Emery have always played as a 4-4-2 out of possession and 3-2-5 in possession (or 3-box-3 if you prefer). When transitioning from out of possession to in possession, the LB would push up to become the LW, LM tucks into the left half space, second striker drops into the right half space, RM/RW stays wide, 2 CBs and RB would shift across a little to become a back 3. This gives the 3-2-5 shape. The change that was made recently is that instead of the RM (McGinn) staying wide, the RB (Cash) pushes up to the RW position, RM (McGinn) drops in to the right DM slot, and the right DM (Kamara) drops back to the RCB slot vacated by Cash. The attacking shape has not changed, only this one rotation has been added to change which personnel are in which positions within the shape.
Finally an intelligent pundit with legitimately speaking facts that is not London club or ‘top six bias for views’ or how Man United changed their toilet paper in the bathroom that lead to a change in form blah blah Talksport,Sky Sports take note.
Why not top 4 and Conference League? Moreno and Ramsay back soon, and there's the January window. Quite a bit of depth already. Tielemans, Diego Carlos, Bailey, Duran are class players add in Lenglet, Dendonker, Traore+ our January signings (probably a RB, CM and forward) and we've probably got the squad to do both...
As villa fan I’m happy to see the hype but we need to turn up in the big games. When I mean big games I’m talking about those moments where we can push on but always ultimately crumble. Forest couple weeks back was that moment where we could have put ourselves amongst the top 3 briefly to make a statement but completely crumbled. I feel next week against spurs is another key moment.
2nd highest point haul in 2023 (GD aside) - I guess we really are the (joint) second best team in the league! Unless points are bad, of course...which we all know they are. Thanks for the video, Sam et al. Please ignore the large swathes of our fanbase that moan when nobody talks about us and also moan when we're talked about in anything less than glowing terms. We've been crap for a long time, so there are a few that are getting carried away with it; and who am I to blame them...
If we can get 9 points in our next four games (Spurs, Bournemouth away, Man City, Arsenal, home) I think we are definitely top 4 contenders and even title contenders. I would think 5th would be where we will finish. We have Ramsey and Moreno back after the break from long term injuries.
@@delronmackay1473you laugh, but since Emery came in and leading up untill now villa would be 3rd potentially 2nd. And that’s over 34 games I think. So yes. Title challenge
@danielhughes7228 I wouldn't bother responding to idiots who use a line of emojis. Clearly, he has no writing skills. Or it borrowed his mommy's phone.
@@sebulreath7401 mate,I don’t think we’re in a title race,I don’t think we ever will be. But you can’t argue with that stats and facts and villa would be up there since Emery came in the blokes a genius and easily one of the best managers in the world. We’re so lucky to have him and all this success is down to him.
Our current ppg gets us 82 points That is guaranteed top 4 even without 'fixing' away form And that's without considering we've gone to SJP Anfield a d the City Ground, the 3 hardest away games for opposition teams
As an Unai emery fan (I am a Spanish football fan in general)...I just am loving his redemption arc in English football. I hope he creates something tangible there. Hope Nico Williams moves to Villa if he ever leaves Athletic.
I think this is fair and valid. I’m a die hard Villa fan and it’s clear to see that our away form needs to approve. But the key thing is, I really think Emery can get it out of them. And we are getting better week on week. It’s a seriously exciting time. The other thing is - I take your point about conference league but I feel that most Villa fans if we can pretty much guarantee top 6 before the end of the conference run, would rather we went for the league, because that enables more money, more growth and overall it elevates our status on the world stage back to what we used to be. Not to say we throw away the conference league but we need to trust in the 2nd side, and with the exception of Legia, they have shown they’re up to it. Here we go!! UTV ❤
go for the league?! bit optimistic mate & i’m a villan myself… also, we should 100% play the first team in europe if we progress to the knock outs, I want a cup even if you don’t

For a second I thought Reuben "the Baby-Boy" Pinder had gone through puberty! And died his hair. And had a face transplant. Okay, this chap looks nothing like him, I just didn't know who he was.
First of all I don't appreciate our King looking like a drunk loudmouth from Newcastle in the thumbnail. Cue drunk loud mouth Geordies piggybacking my comment. Any issues will be resolved (away form). Prioritising Europe/league is an issue. When I saw us win the European Cup in 82' we did that with a wafer thin squad. Same 11 players practically did the job of winning the League as well with the same players. And The European Super Cup. Unthinkable today. My point is that as highlighted in this clip we've had bad injury issues and still managed to impress and to become the opposite of "floating crisp packet in the Premiere League. I put £10 on Villa to win the Premiere League before the season started at 150/1........before anyone laughs, I know the chance is slim but, if we are there or there abouts which isn't laughable the cashout will out weigh the £10 but a long shot. A very merry Xmas to OIL FC (Man City) .....the Premiere League has never been won 4 times in succession. They have 3. This won't be their 4th. Step up new holder. If Leicester did it.......
Man United qualified to Champions league with a horrible away form. Our only competition for top 4 are Man city, Arsenal and Liverpool. Teams like Man United, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs don't have a manager capable to handle games with the amount of injuries we all have.
Every Villa fan knows the away form needs to improve and it's still far too early to talk about top 4 with only a third of the season gone. The plus for Villa fans is the incremental improvement. Since Unai has come in everyone can see what he's doing and how he's improving players on a weekly basis. He's got everyone at Villa onboard regardless of how this season pans out.
Villa fan: we are doing amazing under Emery and he’s doing with players that just survived relegation a few seasons ago, we need to sort our away form out though, next 4 games will tell how far we’ve come Spurs (a) Bournemouth (a) City (H) Arsenal (H)
Id just like to qualify for the Europa League next season weather thats by fa cup, conference league or league position. Its crazy how things are right now
Hopefully Villa can start to beat the teams above them in the table. They really need to string some good results together over the next 4 games and sharpen their away form. UTV!!
just to be clear, defenders must know their role and not engage in showboating or dribbling skills if they are noobs at it. 😑 and thus villa won't concede.
Financial backing, isn't a problem. Villa's owners are some of the wealthiest in the Premier League. Albeit, having to remain within the FFP restraints.
@@am5790 Villa have to increase their incoming revenue, in order to keep spending on improving the squad without breaking FFP is what I meant. The owners could easily plough a billion dollars into the club. But without enough money being generated, that would break FFP. Im not worried about the away form. Emery will fix it like he did the home form. If Enery fixes the away form like he has fixed the home form Villa will win the league.
spot on about the away form. Really slow starters atm conceding that early should not happen nearly as often, a mentality shift might be in order. It is also interesting to note how a few key players, most obviously Bailey play so much better at home.
They have the 3rd best manager IMO If they keep most of the squad fit and make a few additions in January for depth, they can definitely stay in the top 4 race
Before I watch the video, I'm gonna say the short answer is "no". Leicester was a once in a lifetime freak occurrence, and the "recognised" top 4/6 are stronger now anyway (on average). Won't stop me rooting for Villa (Emery is likeable and talented) or enjoying the video.
No we’re not but we will be in a season or two. We may break the top four but we’re not top four ready. Just like Newcastle. They broke into top four too early. You need to build up a style of play with a deep squad. That’s when you can be top four and compete in CL, domestic cups and Prem without having strain on players fitness
