On the Man City Villa game - how strange was it that the media were talking about Haaland and De Bruyne being on the bench and ginormous praise for that youngster Phil Foden stepping up against CL competing Aston Villa in their absence... yet little to no mention of Aston Villa missing Martinez, Cash, Mings, Kamara, McGinn, Ramsey, Buendia, Watkins all out injured, and resting Torres, Tielemans, and Bailey - that is a whole potential starting 11 and the spine of our best players! Thought we were great 1st half, undone by a silly free kick and a weak wall. Second half was a lot to ask, but may have been different if we had not conceded that silly goal before HT, and sometimes you just get done by great finishing - Foden's two finishes were excellent - that's the sport, it happens. Given the opposition and our unavailable players & resting some - I take a lot of positives after that game.
I never played into the whole Aston Villa fan culture of media conspiracies. Always thought the twitter space was full of babies but in recent months I can’t help but feel like there is truth in it. Imagine if Newcastle or Brighton had done what we did this season. The whole league would be talking about it and would be everyone’s ‘2nd team’
Tottenham aren't getting those revenues because they built a stadium; they're getting them because they built it in London. You could build the biggest arena in the world in Newcastle and it still won't generate the same kind of money because the people of the UK outside of London have many orders of magnitude less disposable income to throw at things like concerts and season tickets. If PSR regs stay as they are then West Ham are more likely than anyone else to establish themselves long-term. Our economy is just too geographically imbalanced for other regions' clubs to obtain that trajectory organically without massive foreign commercial revenues or corrupt deals like City have used.
@@Javo_AV Big empty site just south of the Bull Ring, about 200 yards from where passengers will be walking out of Curzon Street station when they step off HS2 in a few years. Imagine the potential revenue a club could generate on that site if it built something a bit unique.
@@Javo_AV it is fancy weekend from NYC to London for a game. But we have a non-stop to Manchester and Liverpool from here too. Even if we Americans support clubs like Newcastle or Wolves or Brighton…. We go to London to watch them play ‘away’
Easy for a spurs reporter to say champions league isn't important when they have the revenue they do. The only way Villa and Newcastle can raise their revenue is theough champions league
As a Villa fan - No we aren’t ready for Champions League on the pitch but it will benefit us massively off the pitch. It’s been a brilliant season but we have overachieved especially with all the injuries we’ve had to contend with.
Look at Newcastle this season. Having Champions League football this year would be a massive financial benefit but the extra games mean they’ve struggled with injuries and now might not have European football next year
We'll be ready unlike Newcastle we've had European football to contend with before getting Champions League and dare I say it we got a better quality squad already to Newcastle. This season has been a weird one with injuries which in my personal opinion stems from the Winter World Cup which would affect a lot of things for all teams yes but it's just one of those seasons like the lockdown season was weird in it's own way.
It certainly isn't an overachievement. The club has been spending and building since they came back to the premier league; it should be no Suprise to anyone that they're in the mix this term now they've got an elite manager. Injuries have brought about a level of inconsistency, but let's get it right the reason they haven't got the required depth (yet) is because of fair play rules. The owners have got serious ambition it's only a matter of time before people take them seriously and stop talking biased nonsense.
It is possible to redevelop Villa Park but there seems to be a sudden lack of confidence. Anfield is in an area of Liverpool that is similar to Aston, and yet they are developing Anfield. The problem is the local Birmingham Council who appear to be dragging their feet about any plans to redevelop the rail stations in Aston. Villa can fill 60,000 but getting in and out of Aston on public transport is a nightmare, and even worse by car. If Birmingham Council wants the city to host major Football competition it needs to either build a new stadium for the Midlands or simply stop dragging their feet and help Aston Villa achieve their goal.
This is one of the reasons I've been hoping for a general election for the past few years. The culture of spending - and treating councils as an expense rather than a vehicle for economic growth - is so incredibly backwards, and has hurt the entire country, but especially so the larger councils in non-tory areas. What a shame that our politicians have been so incredibly small-minded and self-absorbed :( Sadly, given the sheer ammount of damage done to the country (not just in terms off finances - things have never been worse - but in attitudes to services and what they are and how they should function), it may take a decade or more before Local Authorities are back on stable grounds, and allowed to stop wasting so much money on consultants to do their jobs for them, and most importantly, to begin to take on the role entirely, as we see in some of the world's better-run cities. Birmingham Council is a stark examlpe of how not to run a major municipality. And that's not the fault of the Council itself - the entire ethos has to be changed. Councils are not there purely to provide basic functions and allow extraction of value for private interests. They are much better off for both the private sector and public whom they serve when they are properly used to organise, create and distribute. ... ... sorry, i know it's a football channel, but the reality is politics has such a massive impact upon the fortunes of the Clubs, especially in the long-term. Look at the ridiculous good fortune Spurs, West Ham etc enjoy, just from being located in London, as compared to Villa, Newcastle etc. Then consider how long Villa Park has required better transport links, how much money has been available to achieve that - and there are multiple avenues of achieving it - and the absolute dread induced in the Council at the idea of spending to benefit to area. Transport links in many ways are actually worse now than they were ten years ago. How backwards is that! .... ... NVM. We'll always be there to support the VIlla, but bloody hell do I ever wish that folks who understand society were allowed to run it, rather than populist politicians who have no understanding of the consequences of their choices, and little to no interest in ever seeing the bigger picture.
@@mintcake2668 I'd maybe be hoping to mastermind third if I'm whoever gets 4th (or 4th & 5th). If you want that group stage money but also a knockout campaign in the 2nd half of the season that's also appropriate for your team's development (the ever so important PROGRESSION that Ange talked about recently), that doesn't sound TOO bad? Tottenham or Villa could very well come away with a TROPHY in a Europa campaign rather than get embarrassed in Ro16 as seems to happen a lot these days in the UCL. No matter what, I'd still be real worried about managing that squad if I'm Emery or Postecoglou. It's likely not the best development timing, let alone the probable injury & energy problems for everyone involved in the dressing room. Honestly, I'm WAYYYYYY more interested about the race for 6th/7th going in in this season's Run In. That's already served up TWO 4-3s for the neutrals 😳
Not as it stands. However, should we make it to the UCL, we should attract more decent players over the summer, giving us more quality in depth. Also, we’ll have our long-term injured players back by next season.
If we get UCL we are forecasted at best to have £60-80m to spend. If we spend that and get UCL the next season then all is fine but if we don't get UCL next season then we could (likely would) breach PSR the following season.
Dom't think we can say that for certain. Wage bills will be dropping alot and Europanleague would still provide some revenue. One of the biggest challenges for us is to increase commercial revenue.@ijl-cy9pp
@@MindSurf248 yeah I guess. It's an article I read about our finances. One of the few I could find that wasn't trying to either sensationalise or downplay the situation. I'm trying to go into the off season without too much expectation tbh. Edit It basically said the safest thing for Villa is to stagnate for a season. Hold on to their players but don't spend the extra UCL revenue. Try to qualify again and if we do then spend. I think you're right though. If we can get Coutinho and a couple of others off the books completely the wage bill will drop. Maybe bring Sousa through and sell Digne (I like him but could fetch £12-15m plus he's one of the highest paid players). Would allow for at least one bigger signing. With Kamara, Mings and Buendia coming back I think we would be looking good. Just seen Ramsey is out for the rest of the season though 😓.
The hardest thing for villa is revenue. We simply do not make enough. Villa park is historic and a very special place but it's awful at making money. Transport to and from is horrific. Matchday hospitality is laughable. Unless villa can buy a few of the roads near by and build out villa willl need to move away from villa park to compete at the top.
Javi Guerra/Khephren Thuram Wilfried Singo Bradley Locko Backup GK Dean Huijsen Jaden Philogene comes back I think they're ready for the CL. Solid squad.
You were a shambles before he arrived and were still a shambles well after he left. Luckily Edu convinced the board to let him sort the changing room out. Something Arteta gets credit for but had very little input in.
Are Villa equipped for champions league football? A nonsensical question really, firstly Villa need to qualify & if we do it then you can take the nessesary steps to make yourself ready, You can look at.potential revenues, maybe taking the worst case scenario by falling at the 1st hurdle to be safe, 8 games are garrantied & UCL football is worth 30% extra than the current system, all in you maybe looking at £50 million, so that's the figure you've got on top of any other budget put aside for equipping yourself for UCL football & Villa already have an elite manager that iis a specialist in European compitition. Problem solved.!! 🤔.. ⚽💯%✔️..... ✌️😊
Agree, the best way to prepare is by qualifying and gaining revenue and the prestige to attract players. Its also not just the CL revenue its the sponsor bonuses, shirt sales, global reach…
This jacob tanswell guy does not know what hes talking about. Where has it been reported that Villa have to sell anyone in the summer? Also what he said about stadium redevelopment is wrong. The north stand was put on hold after being given planning permission because we might qualify for champions league next season and we dont want 1 stand closed all season for it.
As a fellow Villa fan I think it's widely acknowledged Jacob Transwell knows exactly what he's talking about. Have read him all year on The Athletic and he's spot on. Villa are fairly close to the wind on FFP and the logic is we would need to sell to spend any kind of decent money. Finally I for one don't believe the narrative around the North Stand redev and it being put 'on hold' to keep our attendances for CL. If it's on hold when will it be un- paused? I think the real reasons are that the costs jumped and Birmingham Council are practically bankrupt and would offer little assistance. Villa desperately need to grow their revenue base if we wish to ever compete in a meaningful way financially with the big boys. The redev is desperately needed and building costs only ever rise. The talk/rumour therefore has moved on to us potentially leaving Villa Park? This would be massively dividing. Anyway UTV
Is this guy really associated with villa? They didn't not improve facilities because of inflation, it was so they didn't cap their sales when it became clear of the European campaign. Also, they are perfectly fine with psr once the deductables have been factored in.
Yep we just need to see what the financials for this year is going to be next year but what they gonna do really a few points being the worst possible scenario but we still got time to sell players within this financial year so I think we will be alright
@@geordievillan Yea I know we would've known the figures for last years accounts by December at the very least after all but still it wouldn't hurt to lessen the loses or very unlikely bolster profits for this financial years books
PSR is a way of keeping less rich clubs out. Man City have bought their success, then voted to prevent others doing the same, and then proceeded to break those rules. The whole system is skewed towards the clubs already having success, including Spurs. Even the refs give them an easier time!
Newcastle don't need to match the revenue of the other clubs to make the top four They can be at the top by keeping on course, continuing to spend wisely, and get a few lucky breaks Obviously that's not a given. But the fact that there's more money in the system isn't a hindrance to any particular club. It's an incentive for clubs to do better, and clubs like Newcastle that do well on a lower budget are gooto attract more money in terms of investment and sponsorship. Always
they will perform better than Newcastle, United, or Tottenham. The Man City game was not representative of First Team Aston Villa. If you don't know, then you don't follow Villa. They will be fine by next year in the CL (assuming they make it) Lots to play for and twists and turns to happen. After Liverpool dismantles United - they will be cut them adrift of 5th place ( and probably a CL spot)
Are Aston Villa ready for Champions League qualification? No, they are NOT. And I am a Villa fan. If they can not beat Man City even though they did at home, how can they beat Barcelona, Real Madrid and all the others...they have not finished in the conference league yet... let's see how that goes first
Being ready isn't the same as winning it we're no where near winning it obviously but getting past the group stage I believe so we would have to a group of death for us to not in my personal opinion but it's a new format next season isn't some weird league thing 🤢
'We can't beat man city we aren't ready for champs league?' We had a basically rotated first 11 in that game, Emery used it to try players it was a free hit, if we had our first 11 it's a different game.
As a Villa fan I can say without a doubt that we are no where near ready for the Champions League. It could be quite embarrassing for us to be in there next season.
Well time will tell. I can't see it. In reality we have massively over achieved this season. Yes we beat City and Arsenal but we have been thrashed by City, Newcastle twice, Liverpool and Spurs so we are not great against decent teams.
@@davidbowden1127 but if we get champions league money we can invest to improve and try and get more champions league money. If we don't we sell our best players and tomorrow never comes
Emery has his key back room staff from Villareal and Seville now at Villa, he has pretty much total control his son plays for the youth side, and they've just invested in his families La Segunda side... he's not going to Man U.
Why would he go to United? He is better off at Villa there is less expectation. If he moved on, he would surely want to go to a club that is going places and at this point they are not. It's a pressure cooker
