Love the idea... plan to build 2 container barn ~2024. When completed, we will have repurposed about a dozen containers on our 10 years adventure.

I dig this as well. It’s perfect as a shop & to use the containers to house all electrical equipment for solar to the main home & barn as well as to house in the other container all of the water pumps & filtering systems. Then you’re left with plenty for storage shed use.

We did this but two high and in the back of barn we got them two high, so two story U shape with a roof and an airplane hangar door on the front. Love it

You could build this for a house. The two containers on each side and then the middle make a great room. But both bedrooms and bathrooms are on each is in the containers.

Love the idea of raising the roof such that you can use the top of the containers for extra storage!

just be careful in that shipping container roofs aren't meant to be load bearing. you might need to do some interior bracing to keep from damaging the container.

Do you have any ideas for incorporating grid ceilings into a finished look for a shipping container for ease of installation of lights and for modularity?

we have designs to move in a couple years, to a large piece of property and building our own house. I have the plan of, building a container shed/barn/garage first, to store and secure all of the construction tools and materials as we build the house. Since I expect to do a lot of the work myself, it'd make sense. Then I'd also have the project space I desire for the future.

It depends on what your barn to do, and how you want to configure it. To me the downside is the containers are only a little over 8 foot wide, even a high cube 40 foot container will be cramped for some storage and workshop needs. I like the idea of being able to get a clear span arched building kit and have it span from container to container. By doing that you can use the 9 foot height of the high cube container to give you a center height of about 21 feet on a 24 foot wide clear span arch. More than enough height to get tall equipment into it for storage or maintenance. Or it will give you room for loft storage above the main floor space. Great for a stable or other livestock barn.

Building with containers is individual choice. If you don't know how to weld, frame, plumb, electrical or have any building experience, then find a contractor and get a bank to loan u money for a mortgage( which actually means measurement of death) mort- root word for mortician or death and gage- means measurement. Mortgage= measurement of death, because most have to pay on their homes till they die. People who build using shipping containers, almost always do so with no mortgage, and you will never be able to out price on that!

Hey, what interior specs do you use when designing? After thickness of container, framing, installation, and drywall? L,W,H? If you have it for a 40ft high cube that would be preferred but any would give me a great idea

Anyone you know that can move loaded 40ft containers in Texas? I'm in Central Texas and have looked for going on 2 years, I'm even thinking about buying a trailer like QuickLoadz to move them.

Of course there's uses for shipping containers. And of course I'd like to have a barn such as this. But would prefer not to rely on the containers for the structure. Unless you've overcome the severe rust problems associated with spent time at the great Salt baths.

I thought Bentley was soo cute. I’d love a container home but I don’t think that I’m allowed on in the U.K. Unfortunately many of the houses in the area where I was brought up have been sold as holiday homes or second homes and I can’t afford a real home, so a container home is the next best thing. Problem is that all the people with their second homes oppose the planning permission because they look out of place. I feel cheated.

He was born like that, I have brought him to a few orthopedic vets and all recommended leaving it as he is not in any pain and he uses it just fine, it’s deformed all the way into his shoulder so they said the only option was removal but said not to do it unless he showed some sort of issue. He uses it to play and I can massage the entire arm without him pulling away so looks to be in no pain at all from it
