I think some selected stories (let’s not use the genocide of the entire world or encouraging slavery shall we!) from the Bible can be used to help teach some moral issues but I wouldn’t given it any more credence than many other books and stories. And please stop trying to tell children that the stories are literally true.
But to say that the stories have good moral lessons means giving the book some credence. You can come to the same or better moral conclusions through non religious rational thought. The biggest thing about morality comes down to the well being of others. If an action causes a negative effect to a persons well being where the is not some Justifiable reason for that negative effect, imprionment as punishment handed down by a court of law after due process and a fair trial, killing someone in self defence of yourself or others etc. There are social animals out there that have similar moral tendencies. Not accepting hurting one another, shunning from a group if one has killed another. We don't need a bible to work out what actions are immoral or acceptable in a culture. And certainly the bible can teach immoral things.

Yet again, this question has a really clear answer; no. Morality that cannot be demonstrated isn't morality. It requires that you know something is moral to be moral, otherwise you can't do so intentionally, and morality requires intention. Accidentally killing someone (not through negligence) isn't immoral, for instance. While Christians and other cult-followers might claim that they have access to an 'objective' moral source, even if that was true, they couldn't demonstrate which actions align with it. Meaning; they could not follow (what they understand that as) morally. Secular systems, on the other hand, have no supposed objective source, but we do have objective steps to get to our agreed subjective goal. It's morality in context. The bible and other religious sources cannot offer a moral compass, yet they try to overwrite them. Ask yourself, what's better; subjective steps to a subjective goal, or objective steps to an objective goal?

It is true when you say "something they don't understand". I have met many people who are Atheists saying they have read the Bible front to back and have found contradictions. They would ask me about these contradictions and at the time I may not have known the answer. That is when I knew I had to remove my self, my train of thought, out of the way and allow the Holy Spirit to guide me through certain scriptures in the Bible to answer their claims. I can say that by doing this I have gained a closer walk with God. The devil thought he was doing something to test my faith and have me think that maybe it's not true. But, what the devil meant for evil, God turned it around for my Good. Many can claim to read the Bible front and back, but that is not what makes you a christian. What makes you a Christian is believing that Christ was the true messiah who came down to redeem us from our evil nature.
