Totally agree with you on this. And where is our refund now the VAT has come down on Camping now 5% instead of 20%. We have camped twice now with Camping and Caravanning Club while the VAT should of come down by 15% and no indication of a refund. The prices are up and I get that they are cleaning more often on sites with facilities open, but they had nearly five months when they would of used no electric, no toilet paper, no cleaning products or other things in normal use so no cost to them. I have written to them and had no response as yet. We are Tent campers and have our own toilet, hand washing, washing up and shower in a Utility tent so have used one site that has no facilities anyway. Us Campers that usually Camp are being well and truly ripped off. There is no reduction for us not having the facilities that are normally offered or are still being offered in their advertising. Well said Graham X

We have now been told that people that booked just before 15th July will not get a refund when they camp after 15th July. But I bet when they do their VAT returns for the year All the Campsite income will be Claimed for by them! With us stumping up our Full amount and paying the extra 15% so they will be profiting on us Retired folk who can ill afford the extra money and go Camping as it is usually a cheaper option for us. Seems that they are choosing what bits of the Government Guidelines to follow to gain Profit for themselves.

I've noticed prices seem to be going up too. Supply and demand at play amongst other things? I get that they may be cleaning more frequently, but less facilities, so I'd expect prices to be about the same overall. Before long the differential between camping and some B&B/ hotel prices may not be enough to justify camping for some people. I realise that some people do it for other reasons besides cost, but it will be a factor for many.

I always believe that it is a good idea to have a motorhome, which is fully equipped to begin with. When I say that, I mean a shower, toilet, oven (cooker - not just grill (and DEFINITELY not a microwave)), at least two hobs, and a fridge/freezer. Better yet, a toilet which compacts waste (human and food) into a liner bag in the bowl. Even better _still,_ filling up the water tank to the brim as close to the site (for free), as well as bringing spare leisure batteries - and parking on a "plot" with someone else (agreed with all relevant parties), could serve to benefit everyone concerned financially. Really, it's all about working together, to engineer solutions, to an ever changing situation. It's interesting that you make mention of abusive feedback to your content...it's hard to understand _why_ (from what I've seen) anyone would "find fault". If I can offer any kind of solace, it's that [at least] their too busy to abuse anyone worse off than you. Sorry 😢

I spotted an informal competition to find the most expensive campsite - so far it's £88 per night for a family of 4 in a campervan.

Make sure you all get a VAT receipt from the site as it is only 5% now not 20%. If there is any hassle just tell them you want a receipt and if you don’t get one you will report them to HMRC . It wont be a big reduction but as Tescos say every little helps.

We paid £140 for three nights in one. £130 for three nights in another and £120 for two nights in another. Admittedly all showers and toilet blocks were open on all three. Not sure if that's more expensive as it was peak time.

I hear you - and who wants to pay more? But, like everything else in the private sector, market demand dictates prices. If a camp site knows they can sell out all their pitches at twice the price the did before, then they will. After covid is over and demand for UK holidays reduces, people won't be fighting to get onto site pitches in anywhere near the same numbers as they are now. I'm not a site owner, nor do I know any, but I can also see why sites need to recoup their lost earnings to cover their bills, most of which won't have changed much. What I do think is unfair, though, is sites actually canceling long-standing bookings to charge higher prices to someone else. That is definitely a step too far and if it is happening it's disgraceful. All the best Graham. 👍

Very Well Said. However, there are some reputable sites who have bitten the bullet so to speak and continue to give value for money. My advice is to search around and you'll find them.

i agree that some campsites are way too expensive, and definately have not adjusted their prices to what they are offeriing. However we can all choose to avoid those sites, i certainly wouldn't pay more than £25 per night for a campsite pitch. There is lots of choice so just avoid them! I do feel sorry for any businesses struggling at the moment though and think its a tricky old time, so if they have high overheads for whatever reason i guess they need to cover them otherwise risk going out of business - and then there will be less choice for us in the longer term. Its tricky one :)

It’s a difficult one, the sites have lost over half of their season. They have had to pay extra to be able to open and be inline with all the safety measures. So I do not expect site fees to reduce but do not expect or would not pay/go if a site increased its fees.

I agree, I spoke with some friends over the weekend who have had their booking cancelled and was then told to rebook at an increased rate !

Locally to us. No facilities £37 per night. South coast £50 per night. More demand than actual pitches. Is this the end of campervan or caravan or even camping for us old uns. Cheers from George and Jane 👫😫😫😫😫

A question. It's to do with my pet hate. Camping definition oxford dictionary means under canvas. So many people refer to camping when in a motorhome. Why. Ps we are retired so every day is a Holiday. When we are away in our motorhome we are on an Adventure. Cheers from old George and Jane 👫👍🇬🇧😫

This is a better definition of camping. Camping is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from home in a shelter, such as a tent or a recreational vehicle.

If what you’re saying is true, then it’s a really disgraceful situation. £50 a night for hard standing and EHU is a rip-off. Are these sites that you speak of members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club? If so they’re going to be losing a lot of members.

No it isn't a club site.
