The short answer: Yes, but you might have trouble collecting if there isn't a Sears near you.

That is a #44975 or #44985 1/2" drive "teardrop" raised panel ratchet. 9 times out of 10, it's not "worn out", it needs to be dismantled, cleaned and re-lubed and it's good for another 40 years. I have repaired several "broken" ones that I bought off Ebay. Out of 10, maybe two actually required a repair kit. The rest needed to be just cleaned and relubed. The kit part # he needs should be part #43447. If he can't get it from Sears, there are sellers on Ebay that have them from time to time.

I wanna say as I comment on this video January 5th of 2021 I took a 1/4 ratchet To my local lowes i had no problems and it is old Sears Craftsman Yes sadly my new one is not made here just like the rest of the tools now No hassle no worries very nice about it of course remember the basic and tools is what they will replace just like the days of Sears Also I've been to a second lowes store the next town over I was in the area for something else and I had to have a socket replaced no hassle no problems so Hopefully everybody else has OK no hassle issues in the future going to Lowe's

I brought mine to an Ace in NJ when visiting my sister, they gave me a hassle. I went right up to the local Lowes there, no issue. Also, my local Ace is no problem. Needless to say I let Stanley Black and Decker know about the issue with the NJ Ace store. No problem at Sears either.

The new craftsman mini head is the best for the money ratchet ever made in my opinion and far superior to anything craftsman has ever had! That guy should try to clean his ratchet because those almost never wear out they just get dry grease! my most used ratchet like his was use over 25 years professionally and the gears are great in it

So. I have to add this. I bought a brand new 216 piece craftsman mechanic set. First off. It’s not made in USA so I was already aware of the fact that it was of less quality but it seemed like a nice kit and my dad had always loved craftsman for they lifetime warranty. Long story short my kit was missing a single socket. I could have returned it to Lowe’s (which I still may at this point) and got a new box but it didn’t sit well with me that A. I’d be driving an hour and a half to return it and B. I’d be return a not complete set. I know they wouldn’t sell it to another customer but the idea of it all having to be shipped back somewhere all for a single socket seemed a little silly. And I didn’t wanna drive an hour and half! Also. Lowe’s didn’t have the socket nor do they carry it so it’s not like they were just outta stock. Which kinda blew my mind seeing as it’s a pretty common shallow socket… 3/8 drive… anyways. So I contact craftsman. First call was actually pretty amazing. Told me what happened… they took my address and the info for the missing socket and that was pretty much it. I was impressed. Seemed like I didn’t even need my receipt. So few days later I’m waiting on the socket in the mail. I just happen to go thru my junk email. Sure enough there’s an email asking me for more info. Which was fine… Apparently they had forgotten all the info tho so I had to go thru the whole thing again. No biggie. Yet. So I need to send the part code ( which was funny cuz I don’t have the part so I basically had to guess) and they needed the info on the socket and a pic of the receipt. Ok… not to big of a deal… third times the charm! So I start sending in all the info. But every time I send it I get a postmaster msg saying it failed to send due to the emails inbox being full… 🤨 So I scan thru the now 8 different email threads I have about this 4 dollar replacement part and I just send out all the info to any email I could find. Most of them failed to send… 😠 So I do get an email response. Pretty much asking me for the info again. It was a response tho so I was like didn’t I just send it to you? So once again I respond to this person all the info… and then some… I was at this point getting upset. If I hadn’t checked my junk email I’d been waiting on this in the mail still and a week later I’m still no closer to having this resolved. So I called craftsman hoping to cut out this email tag. They suggested I take it back and return it… after all that I had been through… that was their suggestion. I was stunned. It was at about that time I got another response from the last person I had been in contact with. I kid you not they said we would like to help you with this issue. We will need the Info 😳 and we unfortunatly won’t be able to help but we will put you in contact with the correct contact that can. And then asked me what province I’m from. So… you want the info… again. But you can’t help me? So why would I send the info for the umpteenth time just to get passed off. And did they send me a link to that correct contact that could help me… not yet! I’m still dealing with this… for a 4 dollar socket…

Yes, sometimes you can get warranty service. But in my personal experience over the last few years, since SBD took over Craftsman, only half of my products will exchange. And that is only with a lot of difficulty. I suppose if all you had was a socket or a wrench, you might be ok. But I never buy Craftsman anymore. And hope I can replace some of my broken stuff sometimes. If not, I buy Husky.

I could almost bet that if Mr. Galloway took apart his vintage #44975 or #44985 (it's one of those two) 1/2" drive ratchet and cleaned the old grease out of it and relubed it with light machine oil, he'd be back in business. I have bought several of these "broken" ones at yard sales, from coworkers or off Ebay and I've had to replace parts in very, very few of them. A cleaning and relubing usually does the trick. The old grease dries out, hardens up and makes it skip. You should use light machine oil in these older Craftsman units, or a very light grease if you insist on using grease.

What's the difference? If I buy a Honda from a different car dealer, should another Honda dealership refuse to honor the Honda warranty? No! It's still a Honda product. Stanley Black & Decker purchased Craftsman assuming all responsibilities that come with it. They now "deal" in the Craftsman line of products, just as ACE Hardware has for nearly a decade now. And that includes the Lifetime warranty that's been offered with said product for ages. An by the way Lowes does honor warranty on old Sears Craftsman products. I'm assuming this guy just dealt w/a know nothing employee.
@googleusergp
@googleusergp 3 года назад
@@jrock9687 You're 100% right, it's ignorance. See my explanation above on what happened to me. I've never had a problem at Ace, Lowes or Sears with Craftsman warranty. They bought the warranty when they bought the product, I couldn't agree more.
