Very good efforts taken to make all understand about funds... however..Looking at various scams in various mutual fund .... It's very necessary to regularly review or change ur fund manager as per need.. which i think is hard for common people... Unfortunately, Hard earned money going in various scams

Very relevant topic, I am facing this since last 4 months , donot know when to redeem as on some days it goes up and in most of the days it goes down . Less than 3 yrs investment capital gains will be taxed . Never hv faced such a situation in the past . It is a big pain as whatever the nav has grown in last 12 to 18 months is gradually decreases month by month in the current scenario. It was a very relevant practical topic the debt mutual fund investors are facing !

Mam you said that the yield of the bond and the price of the bond are inversely proportional, so by the word 'price' you mean the market price of the bond ?

This is seen in Tier 1 NPS Government Fund. Drastically NAV value reduced. What to do there? Moving to Equity also risk now.

But it doesnt really matter if one is invested in short duration funds. When the old bonds expire and new ones are bought, the price of funds will slowly go up. Selling now just looking at FDs doing well may not be a good idea

Hi , I am confused regarding debt mutual funds. Last year i invested in 2-3 short term debt mutual funds in the anticipation of interest rate hike. I was getting the feedback that i will get better return than fix deposit if i invest in short term debt but to my surprise i am getting 3-4 % return on my debt mutual funds which is far less than the fix deposit returns.Moreover on the day of interest rate hike by RBI my funds declined by 1%.Should i sell my debt mutual funds and switch to fix deposits since fix deposit rates are bound to increase.Please suggest.

These bonds are issued by government and now because of the situation they are asking the RBI to buy these bonds, since government has not comfortable position to hold and any further decrease of value will hurt the government, however RBI also is not interested to buy and if at all RBI wants to buy they have to print currency notes further which altogether will increase inflation.

You mean to say to take out money from debt funds and put money in stock market. Please remember stock market is not always easy to invest. Debt fund yield will also increase in 5 to 6 months

you can start investing anytime in liquid funds - the interest rate cycle doesn't influence it much. It is only when you are trying to invest in debt funds with higher bond maturity time (1-10 years) do you need to consider the interest rate cycle.

Mam please answer.... If all debt mutual funds are taxed at lets say my slab is 20% in stcg. Now lets say i have invested in overnight funds and i redeem it in 7 days still i borne 20% tax. This is not fair. Why would one invest for 7 days and redeem it with 5, 10, 20% tax?

Not sure how you can blindly suggest people to exit from debt investments without commenting on taxation. The person will loose more money through the taxation than NAV drop if he or she is holding them between 2-3 years.
