Stop allowing foreign ownership of all properties in Canada. The fact that foreign citizens own property and then rent them to local citizens , you remove the ability of local citizens to own their own property.

Trust me, this has been hard since the 80s when the govt allowed Vancouver to be sold out to hong kong. It’s why the property purchase tax was started. They should have limited foreign ownership. We could barely afford an apartment, it was half our income. No help from parents. We had to leave north van in 96 and move to the okanagan. This is nothing new, it’s just gotten worse. Only the rich will live in Vancouver, oh and the addicted😢

It's been unaffordable for a couple with kids wanting to a home for example. But for a group of 15 to 20 people entering a partnership, yes it is very possible.

We have enough space in BC for everyone to have a small detached home. But under eby and Trudeau only rich foreigners get them.

Detached prices are starting to fall for good reason! Currently in the Vancouver area $2-2.5 million buys you an old, cheaply renovated house so unhealthy and unsafe I wouldn't let my child sleep there. Don't let cheap renovations fool you, these are not livable homes, and for that price you can get a gorgeous mansion nearly anywhere else in the world, including Vancouver Island, Surrey or Mission.

A home with a backyard for the kids /dog to play in. Mr Somerville says there are mountains of water that make it difficult to build homes? Yes, there is the ocean on one side of BC but just look at a map, there is tons of land in BC. Ontario would be a province with tons of water they are called the Great Lakes. They build homes around the Great Lakes. It is a bit tiresome that you can't build here or there because it would ruin the environment. There is no lack of land in Canada where single-detached homes could be built. What Canada needs to do is have a change of attitude and just say we are going to build homes in new subdivisions. That is what Canada did in the late 1950's-1970's.
