Ontario is no better. My daughter(nurse) and son-law(top Toronto doctor) left Canada for Salt Lake City and loving every minute of it. Great work-life balance, sense of community, safe, affordable homes and much lower taxes and cost of living. The brain drain is on.
Affordability issues !? Hell.. 2004 was pretty the last year a normal middle class family could afford a detached home in the GVRD. We got out back in 12' because it was way beyond redonk..Now it's just...... The government allowed the GVRD to be sold to criminal chinese.... you can say that racist but it's the sad truth... Housewives/students with no jobs buying multi million dollar homes with cash.. Yaw think that's not suspicious ? ( We know cause we worked in the real estate market) But.. we can't blame them... The govt on all levels allowed this travesty to occur all in the name of greed.... Had the govt put in say a 30 percent foreign tax and and additional 20-30 percent tax for properties just being held and not occupied back in say 2006-2010... maybe vancouver... toronto... montreal... and all of the cities that surround them would have had a normal real estate market... instead of this hyper inflated insane market that exists now.
Its the government and the lifestyle. The lifestyle of immigrants is different from the Westerners. An example being immigrants dont eat out much instead cook and have at home whereas people here spend a lot on eating out, activities and entertainment thus complaining about prices going high and immigrants being the cause..lol
This is more like 36% of Vancouver residents are considering leaving. There are plenty of places in B.C. that are still very livable, just not Victoria or greater Vancouver and a few others.
Unfortunately the BC NDP has devolved into a party that tries to build housing but masks the fact they're strictly helping to build rentals.....these rentals will continue to have super-high rents and this policy does nothing to help people actually own their own homes here in Bc and to give them opportunity and hope.
If you leave and squander the 5 million you get for your run down shack that you sell here and move you will likely never be able to afford to move back as prices here seem to double every few years.
As someone born in Vancouver and lived there for 35 years I left Vancouver 10 years ago to move to Alberta and you couldn’t pay me enough to move back and I own a place in new west , plus I own 3 houses in Edmonton, I will say this Alberta is way better for 95% of things , no icbc no ndp . Make the move before it get expensive here
Yes, why of course, thanks to liberals and the A holes reporting on them, yeah you CTV. The great liberal enablers while you suck from the liberal teat.
1) Far too many migrants that don't contribute to the tax base. 2) Far too many foreigners allowed to park their $$ in BC RE as a store of value. 3) Far too many foreign students. 4) Govt. non-action on money laundering. Horgan was working on it but Eby failed to crack down.

As a 57 year resident you can add my name to that list, this province is now completely under the control of "New Money" predominately from Ontario and California who are trying to rebuild Metropolitan Vancouver into "Toronto west" pitting the "Haves" against the "Have nots" .......a process that Gordon Campbell and his underlings like Kevin Falcon laid the groundwork for over 20 years ago, congratulations BC Liberals or United or whatever you call yourselves? You destroyed the only home i have ever known 😢
"Three Major Factors" for the HIGH cost-of-living and housing crises across British Columbia that push young British Columbians to leave the province altogether; 1) BC Assessment, the BC Crown Agency responsible for evaluating Properties in BC has been OVERVALUING the properties over real market prices, in fact, the land prices across the province especially in rural areas have drastically increased beyond their REAL VALUE. The landowners have put up their lands for sale but cannot sell their lands due to a discrepancy between BC Assessment's (Over) evaluation and the TRUE VALUE of their lands. The BC government must review BC Assessment policies, and the BC Premier David Eby should order an inquiry into BC Assessment malpractice. As long as BC Assessment continues to overassess the land prices, especially in rural areas of the province, the housing crises will not be solved in BC. 2) Former BC Liberal governments of Gordon Campbell and Christi Clark allowed the transnational criminal gangs to move to BC and launder billions of dirty money, wash in BC casinos across the province (by criminal entities such as Silver International Bank), and enter the BC real estate. (Continuing Criminal Activities in BC Real Estate Markets) 3) The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics left $14 BILLION in debt on the burden of 4 generations to pay off which would take 80 years, and has led to high taxes in BC.
I live in rural Alberta. I built an off-grid 3000 sqft house on 3 acres with my own two hands. I have zero utilities and a mortgage that is one-third of the rent of a one-bedroom in almost any major city. I have a family of four, we live on one income, my wife stays home with the kids. I don't work in the oil and gas sector, I make a little more than the national average. I have no degree. I don't come from money and have had no handouts, grants or government support. I was homeschooled. I've worked full-time since I was seventeen, and I'm in my thirties now. I saved money and learned valuable skills over time. Nothing I have done can not be duplicated by anyone else. I hear a lot of complaining from a lot of people. What people want is 'easy and accessible' those times are over. No one owes you anything. You get the life you make. NO ONE IS STOPPING YOU in this country, but no one is helping you either, certainly not the government on any level. Each of us is the master of our own destinies and complaining does nothing, only your actions matter. Blaming someone else is worthless.
All of this is doesnot matter. All that matters is Money printing and exploitation of migration. Print/Loan money to drive up demand and then being low wage exploitative worker to drive down wage. Regular people are getting crushed from both end High prices and Low wages.
How about some common sense immigration. We dont have housing for residents OR immigrants so why not slow down the immigration until housing is available? If you don't it creates friction between new comers and residents and puts the people immigrating here in a very bad spot when they cant afford to live here. Close the ridiculous loopholes in immigration policy that are being exploited. Might help...
Anywhere there aren't liberals or their lap dogs, the NDP . 😂 when I was a kid, the houses were 90,000, and now their 900,000 . Also, if there is nowhere to live here , why are people from other countries allowed to move here ? Politicians turn everything into a 💩 🥪 .
My 20 year old son just bought a 1200 sq ft house with a detached garage for $205002.00 in Whitecourt Alberta. Jobs all over the place. No Provincial sales tax. Only downside is the cooler weather.
Its not so much leave the province but rather leaving the lower mainland/city/fraser valley. Its a traffic nightmare, crime spree haven, dopers paradise, stress trap and yeah pricey.
BC drug dealer money laundering NDP. Forced jab drug dealer Bonnie no health care. Drug portal human trafficking to US and pay mega carbon tax to survive = BCrap.
Yeah, build more housing, genius. I think politicians should be let in on a secret of how many people live in the world, and who CANADA'S immigration leaders are. Then ask where the only warm and desirable place in Canada is.
Born and raised here and will never be able to afford a home. The only people who can afford to live here now are the world’s most wealthy. Not Canadians.
