The UK gov should bring back the 7.5 ton entitlement on passing the test, as was the case upto 1997!
@MotorhomeMatt
@MotorhomeMatt 5 месяцев назад
That was certainly put to parliament for consideration. An answer was due by Setember 21st 2023. It never came. Industry pundits suggested it would not get processed through. This is a new licence consideration and much easier to adopt as the EU write the law and the UK could adopt it. All or more likely in part
@skisavoie

@@MotorhomeMatt The sensible thing would be to reinstate the 7.5 tonne entitlement but we’re dealing with the “state” and politicians! I’m a driver in the French Alps and my 7.5 ton entitlement is recognised over here. Thanks for the video. Best wishes, Colin.

I’d say give the 7.5t entitlement to the licenses over 10 or 15 years. This would help massively

@@MotorhomeMatt It was the adoption of EU licence categories that lost those passing 97 on, from entitlement up to 7.5T.

Congratulations on the length of this episode. I walked from Fakenham Racecourse campsite to a factory in the town, strolling along the river and through the town and it finished as I got to the door. Interesting topic on licences as my elder son is approaching 17 so maybe he can drive the MH a little earlier than we thought. Watching the topic. Also loved the campsite and had a day by the sea on Sunday before the work started.

About the retest after 12 months .. you said it the oldies that you are worried about..but there are not the ones causing and having the accidents.. it the the young drivers, especially males between 17 and 24 when their egos and confidence exceeds their ability and experience... borne out by statics and insurance premiums.

EES is the price of democracy, freedom, independence, sovereignty and the biggest of them all, SECURITY. If travelling outside of Europe, to Middle East, Asia, then imagery and finger-prints have been a border requirement for over 10+ years in some Countries, which is growing monthly to more and more countries. Look at it as a positive. It will help secure all Countries borders, especially for EU and UK and tackle crime, especially Human Trafficking which is a major world wide issue.

Are the EU changing the licence because EVs weigh heavier, and with 4 passengers could be overweight. Let’s look at the Peugeot 208 as an example, a small hatchback which is available with either a petrol engine or as an electric car. If you go for the 1.2-litre petrol model, it tips the scales at 1,090kg. On the other hand, the all-electric e-208 with its 50kWh battery weighs in at 1,910kg, almost double the amount. This theme continues with premium brands as well. The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe weighs 1,695kg when you opt for the basic petrol model, however this rises to 2,065kg in the electric i4 with a 70kWh battery. Go for the larger 84kWh battery and you’ll be lugging around 2,125kg.
@MotorhomeMatt
@MotorhomeMatt 5 месяцев назад
All cars are getting heavier whatever the power train. The 3500kg limit is still well above an EV car. The derogation to drive 4250kg non fossil fuel has already been passed and is awaiting uk gov endorsement into law. This change is about all fuel types.

There is an obvious answer why the EU are raising weight limit allowances on licences, it is to accommodate heavier battery powered vehicles. More net zero wokery. VW tried to turn the id buzz into a campervan but soon found out that with the batteries and internal cupboards, beds, sinks etc. it blew the 3.5 Tonne limit out of the water, which nearly completely removed it's target consumer audience, from buying it. To keep within the 3.5 Tonne limit and be a campervan, battery capacity would have had to be reduced, making a normal 140 mile on the motorway in cold weather id buzz, even more useless, if it ever could be ( EV database figures ). My diesel campervan has a range of 650 miles, I'll keep what I have, thank you very much ! I can even tow a 7.5 metre 4 berth, fixed bed caravan with it for 350 miles, something no EV in the world can do. The other thing I will add is that increasing weight allowances increases risk of injury because of the increase of momentum in any accident, so this is not a safer thing to do, it has been done because of motor industry pressure, in my opinion to make it easier to sell more EV's. I am glad to be an oldy though, with garandfather licence rights.

You might be right although there are so many discussions in your comment! The world is changing, that is a given. It’s happening. It’s an exciting time to witness change
@stevezodiac491
@stevezodiac491 5 месяцев назад
@MotorhomeMatt I witnessed change 8 years ago when I bought an EV myself. Even though it has only done 40k miles in it's one owner life by me, it has lost 33% range and battery capacity. It's range new wasn't good and it is now approaching the point shortly, where it will be scrapped because the range is no longer viable and the cost to renew the battery financially prohibitive. In it's life it has been a longer range journey logistical nightmare, with range and charger anxiety, as well as many other EV related problems. I have given it to the wife now, it is used within it's tethered home charger, octopus go range. This is akin to the use pattern of original EV's, strangely enough, short range, stop and go journeys, a milk float. The only thing they are any good at. Meanwhile I have a nearly 20 year old Mazda MX5 in the garage and a nearly 16 year old E Class diesel. Both these cars having the ranges they were bought with ( the merc 650 miles, the same as my diesel lwb van ) and both cars working wonderfully well. EV's are just not fit for purpose and it would seem a short lifetime, throw away item, in my own personal experience. The general public is now fully aware of these facts and doesn't want to buy them and the sooner the politicians gets this message and the fact that they are not greener, the better. All lithium ion batteries degrade with time and use cycles to differing degrees, degrading just sat there, even garaged ? Something ice cars just don't do and I for one, will never buy another one, ever.

Hi Motorhome Matt so good to know of changes happening as will be our first time motorhoming in Europe this year. Want to ask regards the 4250 tonnes does this apply for people who are type 1 diabetic or would they need to have restrictions on license?? Thanks

If the Oldies, who in many cases have lots of experience were so dangerous, they would be penalised, by Insurance companies, like the Young drivers. I’m afraid your comment about Oldies, doesn’t stack up. How many times do you see Oldies crowding into Supermarket carparts & doing DOUGHNUTS. !!!!!, or being chased at three time the legal limit, by Traffic Cops.

@MotorhomeMatt

That’s a great question! I cut it from the episode as the answer was messy. Basically either take a C1+E or the EU have to recognise a training programme that the UK designs. I will clarify this in a future episode for you

Hi guys the subject of licensing my point lowering age to 18 yrs for hgv unless the government scrapped it once you got your cat b license you could take your class 2 (cat c) from the age of 18 instead of 21 yrs they brought that in about 15yrs ago may be more so they could drive anything over 10t but they would have had to take class1 (c+e) to drive long haul but for that you had to be 21 yrs old for that test and for 7.5t it’s nown as the grandad license pass cat b before 1997 but after that as long as you had cat b you could take cat c1 from the age of 18 yrs
@kampenheimer

After watching this I went to have a read of the proposals on the EU site. The way I’m understanding the proposal, is that any increase in B licence allowances will only be valid while driving an alternative fuel vehicle i.e. an EV - reading between the lines. If I am wrong I am open to correction but that’s what it looks like to me. It seems it is.clearly designed to accommodate the EV market and in the process diminish people’s right to drive diesel/petrol vehicles in alignment with their ideological net zero beliefs.
@MotorhomeMatt
