I bought a lithium battery golf cart which gives me at least 60 miles which is plenty far enough for one day. Plug it in at home and next day, ready to go. We have a feature which I did not hear referenced. Our cart included a rearview camera which operates just like aa car rearview camera. Quiet is nice! Lithium warranty is 100% replacement if the battery fails.

That was a great video. So many grumpy comments about electrics not having enough range for The Villages. I can’t see traveling more than 50 or 60 miles in a golf cart on any given day. Just charge each night and you will be a-ok.

I’d say the future of golf carts is electric. Cleaner not as noisy and great range for the vast majority of golf cart users.

Don't do it Jerry! Don't go to the "dark" side. Think 250 mile range. Think no plugging in.....anytime. Think no battery replacement.....ever. I just bought a Quietech and it is much quieter than my older carbureted cart. Change oil once or twice a year (a whole quart!!!) and new air filter every other year and that's it for a very long time. What's not to like? I have personally converted 3 of my buddies from electric to gas in the past 3 years and every one of them swears they will never go back. Remember what the salesperson said about Lithium battery replacement. $4500-5000 every 5-8 years. In five years your gas cart might need a new spark plug and brakes. Don't drink the kool aid!

As an owner of a lithium cart I love it. Excellent acceleration and extremely quite. I’m told by The Village Golf cart sales people that Yamaha is coming out with a lithium battery cart in their 2023 models. To alleviate any mileage anxiety choose a lithium battery of at least 180 amps. 50-60 miles on a single charge. Excellent show.
@TheVillagesGolfCars
@TheVillagesGolfCars 2 года назад
Yes, Yamaha did release their Lithium Model for 2023; however, the only battery size available is 105 amp hrs. This got us roughly 28-30 miles. Hopefully we have more/larger available options available next year!

Good and informative video. I know you all have gas carts and now I know you enjoy the quietness of the electric however, the range difference is a deal breaker for me. Also, the thought of plugging in every night is just not appealing. Throw in the replacement cost ($4500-5500) of LifePO4 batteries and I will keep my gas cart. Purchase a Quiet Tech and don't look back. Yamaha gas carts run forever with just minimal maintenance and the Quiet Tech's have very minimal engine noise. I love mine.

Electric cars are the future in California. Beginning in 2025, nobody will be allowed to buy any type of gas or diesel motor that has a rated horsepower(HP) of 20HP or less. You can buy individual parts to repair an older engine. If you live in a flood zone, you will not be allowed to buy a gas powered pump that accepts fire hoses to pump the water out of your property. I would expect that people like the fire department will have an exemption for these type of things, but nobody else. All vehicles sold as new starting in 2030, are required to be fully electric. No gas electric hybrids. This is already the law. The governor has already signed this. That means no more gas powered golf cars starting in 2025. Fully electric only. Many states tend to follow the automobile standards that California sets, and so the sales of fully electric golf cars and regular cars will increase dramatically.

Very informative, they had some beautiful carts in there. However, I’m not a fan of the electric carts knowing I’d have to replace the battery 8 - 10 years. Which could cost almost 1/2 of a new cart. That’s why I haven’t purchased a hybrid vehicle yet. I typically keep my cars well past ten years.

I have another perspective....we bought our home in Rio Grande and it included an older electric Club Car, a 1993 DS model. The electric motor was replaced 3 years ago, I have replaced the lead-acid batteries (($1000), seat belts ($200) and the controller lever ($300). This cart rocks! You would call it "vintage", yes. But it has dramatic acceleration, I can go 40 miles on a full charge and it is comfortable to drive/ride in. We looked at the lithium battery option, but at $3000 it seemed like that was a lot to spend over the lead-acid option for the limited additional benefit it gave us. I have always been a used vehicle kind of guy, so I have a comfort level with driving an older cart for the time being. So please everyone, do not be afraid that lead-acid batteries are dead, and long live lithium...

1- 400 watt solar panel that costs about 400 dollars will net 1200 miles of range a year in any vehicle. Today's solar cost are around 2 dollars a watt installed .quick exercise 12000 watt system at 24 to 27 thousand dollars before a 24% tax credit will power yor home , golf cart , and two vehicles permanently. Modern solar panels have a warranty of only losing 5% after 25 years . Last but not least if the chemistry is LFP it is non flammable and new cars come this way as well .

Thanks for the info, I did buy my Lithium cart at that store. A couple of points, the charger runs off a 110 volt line in most houses. They give you the charging equipment which can fit below the drivers seat. If you are low, just find someone who has 110 line. I find I can get 20 miles charged in an hour, that should be enough to get you home. I added speakers as well and they're great. As you know, Tesla runs off Lithium as well and they are now working on a new battery that won't use lithium which they are targeting 1 million miles. Knowing Tesla, it'll be ready in just a few years. Really means never charging again.

What about a hybrid golf cart, does anyone make one? Why should you have to pick between gas or electric when you can have the best of both worlds. Lithium batteries are very expensive to replace, what is there lifespan and how many charges can you get? China owns 90% of the world's lithium mines, just food for thought.

Interesting to compare the two options, especially the running costs. If it costs 8c to run a gas cart and 1.7c for electric this is a 6.3c differential. So you'd need to drive 79,365 miles in an electric cart to break even on the $5k battery replacement cost. This equates to 1,322 days (at say 60 miles a day), or 3.62 years if you drove every day. Neither of these options are likely - especially for a snow-birder - so your probably looking at a breakeven of closer to 10 years. Much as I like the idea of electricity the cost is not there on breakeven - assuming of course that your sole criteria for comparison is cost. Noise and speed are two other factors. This raises another point. In Europe, there is a problem with electric cars because they are too quiet and people with hearing problems can't hear them... that's why you need a ghetto blaster !!!! TURN UP THE BASE.... but then surely that cancels out the idea of electricity being quieter... Besides that, I actually like the sound of the gas carts... but then I like the sound of Jaguar's, Aston Martins, and other high-performance cars :-)

I totally get the appeal of the electric golf cart. Quiet, pick up etc. However reading through some of the comments, I have to agree with the folks who are not quite ready to go electric. The cost is a concern. We'll be getting a second cart and there is a lot to consider. We'll see. I love Linda's yellow cart! I enjoy all your shows. You are interesting to listen to and informative. I want to think you are honest but it is hard to believe you actually enjoy living there considering what you came from.. What your shows reinforce, at least for me, is why I would never live in a place like that or any place with an HOA for that matter. We know one couple who lived there for a short time and they described it as North Korea. It seems to have a contrived lifestyle as you wait to die. This couple I was referring to moved a little north to around Tallahassee on one acre with a nice small house. They can't believe the mistake they made buying in the Villages. They did make a small profit on their home and it was quick to sell so that was a plus. My wife and I are looking to make a move to north Florida from Fort Lauderdale. I have lived here since the 50s and it is just does not seem like my home anymore. A while back my with and I took off in our motor home numerous times for months looking for (Mayberry). I doesn't seem to exist. However, where you live is what you make of it. I just don't like the idea others trying to control my life as in a place like the Villages. I feel the only thing you have there is this youtube channel. You have made a small business of just living there. I think without that you would be tired of it pretty quick and ready to make another move. Florida is a great place to live and pretty vast. There is so much more to it then just the coast line. I will still be watching and do enjoy you both andI hope I didn't insult you in any way. To steal from your sign off, I like you both and "I hope to see you get out of there". Thanks For listening, Joe.
@JERRYANDLINDA
@JERRYANDLINDA 2 года назад
Joe it seems that you have made your decisions off of information gained from a very small sample of people. I would suggest you do a lifestyle visit here. It would be very interesting to hear if you have the same viewpoint afterward. We don't feel controlled by anyone. We moved here because we want a beautiful place to live. There are many, many activities. As for having a business with the RU-vid channel… That is just silly. The strength of living here is not only in this beautiful place, it is the many, many beautiful people that live here. We talk to people every day… and not many are like your friends that thought they were living in North Korea. I just wonder what they wanted to do that they felt they were restricted from doing?

@balabushka6510 2 года назад
@@JERRYANDLINDA More then a small sampling, I have been aware of the Villages since they started in the 80s. This is not a debate, people have different likes. When I made reference to what you do as a business, I really meant you have something that you really like doing and it revolves around where you live. Without that, I don't see you enjoying this day to day contrived life of fake enjoyment. Is this how you saw yourselves living out the end of your lives say 20 years ago? I won't really write any more comments on your videos but will just say, this and I mean it. I feel sorry for you both. You sound like two very nice accomplished people and here is where you have ended up. Like I said this is not a debate. When you put your heads on your pillows and think about your lives be honest with yourselves.

Who would think a golf cart dealer would work in the villages?
@cydneystephen2814

Had to come back. I think it’s amazing that if you customize your cart, they lend you one for the 12 weeks until your cart is ready. $14 - $16k? Wow. That’s a car. But think they are nice for within the community.

Sadly, $14-16k is a cheap used car today. My basic 2017 Honda Civic low mile Kelly Blue Book trade in value, $18,685.

Thanks, Jerry and Linda for another informative video. If I was in the market for a golf cart, I think I would lean towards electric.

Great video and information. Question for you, did you buy your pre-owned carts privately or through the store? Also wondering, do the loaners becoming purchasable when they upgrade the fleet of loaners? I really enjoyed the information about both types of carts available.

Hi Rene, most of our pre-owned inventory comes from trade-ins towards new units. Every now and then, someone may be downsizing or moving from The Villages and we will buy a unit from them. Anything that is too old or in rough shape, we will auction off to other dealers outside of the area. Our loaner golf cars are upgraded every year and the used models we recondition. These reconditioned units are broken all the way down to the rolling chassis and rebuilt with new components and come with a 1 year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 2 or 3 year powertrain warranty. Most people cannot tell the difference between a new and reconditioned model if we don't tell them. Great questions!

Thank you Jerry and Linda for this fantastic educational video. We now have answers on many questions we had. We would definitely go for an electric cart vs gas. We appreciate the silence. If you maintain your cart properly you will not face any issues.

Please upgrade to an electric golf cart. It would improve the sound quality of your golf cart ride videos a lot.

Curious if you have a charging device for a non Lithium battery at your house and you get a car with a Lithium battery, can you charge it with the same device or do you need to upgrade to another charging device? And how much would that cost? Thanks for the videos!

Hi Linda, the lead-acid chargers are different from the lithium chargers. All golf cars purchased from us come with a charger specific to that vehicle and is included in our advertised pricing.

Good presentation on golf carts, as you say "an eye opener". We live in a golf cart community and I know one thing, we gotta save our coins, these new golf carts really exceed our pay grade.
