Wait wait wait. Mrs everglot 'won't let Victoria near the piano. It's improper for a lady. Too passionate.' Emily plays piano, maybe mr and mrs everglot don't want Victoria to become like Emily, passionate, and willing to elope with her one true love......?????

@@herohelpsme5948 It's possible they never even met him, if Emily had planned to elope with him from the beginning. Something like "they'll never understand/approve, so this is the only way". She could have left with her dowry so they could start a life together, but it clearly didn't work out that way.

I feel like Emily and Victoria aren’t sibling but cousins. I read a comment that said “Victoria’s mother didn’t let her near the piano because it’s improper and it’s too passionate” maybe Victoria’s mother heard from Emily’s mother that she found a lover from playing the piano beautifully but tragically died. Which caused Victoria’s parents to be over protective of Victoria so she wouldn’t be a disappointment to them as Emily was to her entire family. Idkidk I’m probably read wrong about this!!

"When her daddy said no, she just couldn't cope So our lovers came up with a plan to elope" Emily's parents have seen him before. Plus, the silhouette matches, his appearance didn't change. This means that Victoria's parents not recognizing him meant that they've genuinely never seen him before. Also, Emily didn't recognize Victoria (or ever give any hint that she knew her, nicknamed Victoria "little miss living") and neither did Victoria recognize Emily. If you look at how Barkis's outward appearance has changed very little, if at all, (Emily recognized him immediately and he's still using his "dashing good looks" to con people) that reveals that it hasn't been that long since he killed Emily. At most, it's been a few years or just long enough for anyone who knew about what happened to no longer be an issue. (Forgot, moved away, otherwise moved on with their lives, etc.) Therefore, if Victoria and Emily were sisters, then they would have had more than enough time together to have formed some kind of relationship/bond and have been able to recognize each other upon being reunited as Emily did Barkis. But, they never did. To Emily, Victoria was simply: "the other woman". That is, until the end of the movie of course when she realized that what she was doing was wrong. (Letting him drink the poison and marry her rather than staying alive and marrying Victoria, the woman he loved.) Thus, Emily and Victoria are not sisters, they never were. Emily was from some other rich family. "Now, her mother's wedding dress fit like a glove...the family jewels and a satchel of gold" Victoria's mother doesn't exactly have the same build as Emily, so the dress Emily was wearing couldn't possibly have been hers. Plus, Victoria's mother doesn't exactly strike me as the kind of person who would wear a dress like that. She wouldn't choose or wear that dress for any reason. Her dress in the movie was also rather conservative so Emily's would've been too revealing for her tastes. And, Victoria's parents didn't marry out of love, they were not at all happy about their marriage. They only married because it was what their families decided. So, she wouldn't wear a dress like that for her husband-to-be either. (or his family for that matter.) If you look at their house, their mannerisms, and all the portraits on the walls, both she and her husband are deeply rooted in family traditions and aren't ones for change so Victoria's mother couldn't and wouldn't have changed her style after her marriage. Now, if that dress had been in the family and was an heirloom of some sort, then you have to look at the fact that Emily's dress doesn't match the style or preferences of either parent or their respective families (the portraits on the walls, the relatives that come to Victoria and Barkis's wedding, or the corpses that come in later), but Victoria's does. Plus, Lord Barkis couldn't possibly have been stupid enough to come back and con the same family that he'd robbed blind the first time around. In the movie it's pretty clear that he had no idea that Victoria's family was broke, hence the shock when she told him that she had no dowry and he (his "money") was supposed to be the one to keep them from the poor house. If Emily and Victoria were sisters, he would've known. You could say that he only targeted this wedding and this couple because he knew that Victor's family had money but, bear in mind that his victim was Victoria, not Victor. "she made a vow lying under that tree That she'd wait for her true love to come set her free" Wording and context are key here: "her true love" not simply "true love". Just "true love" doesn't specify what kind, therefore it wouldn't matter. Think of what happened in Frozen, "An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart." It does not specify what kind of love, what kind of action was required, or who needed to perform said action. (the person with the frozen heart or someone who loved them.) Thus, sisterly love and Anna saving Elsa worked perfectly. Plus the wording of these lyrics implies that she was waiting for someone else to do something for her, not the other way around. Emily was only in her particular situation because she got royally screwed over by a man who didn't love her. However, even after what happened she still believed in love, specifically, romantic love. This then implies that the person she was waiting for was not someone who truly loved her or whom she truly loved, but rather a man who was truly IN love with her, a prince charming to her damsel in distress. (Ergo, in this instance "true love"=soulmate/love of her life) So Emily helping her so called "sister", even out of love or compassion, however great, would have accomplished nothing. It had to have been Victor (the prince charming she thought she needed in order to find peace) that helped set her free.

@@meganhue6004 Emily had to be the one to stop him from drinking the poison in order to leave the purgatory. Emily is a beautiful soul, of coarse she would come to her senses that her ultimate desire was only achieved by taking a life and it was wrong. The whole situation saved Emily's life but she mainly saved herself with help of Victor by her side who ultimately let her decide what was best. I think Victoria was more of a pressure reminder that she was dead and Victor was alive. So ultimately, if she let Victor kill himself for her desires she would be no better than the man who who killed her for riches.

You lost me when you said Lord Barcus was gay. He acts stuck up because, like Victor's mother, he's superficial and only wants the finer things in life. And also like Victor's mother, will selfishly put someone in a bad situation to receive it. I mean look at that town. They're all so miserable. Why is it so out of the ordinary for some citizens to want riches and wealth at all costs? The song "Remains of the Day" says "She wore her mom's wedding dress, fit like a glove. You don't need much when you're really in love. Except for a few things (or so I'm told) Like the family jewels and a satchel of gold" He's just a selfish jerk who only wants the riches of pretty girls who have it. That's why when he found out Victoria was poor, he threw her to the ground. And to debunk the whole gay thing, he crashed Victor and Victoria's union at the end to say "I always cry at weddings. But there's one thing you seem to forget. She's still my wife!" If he was mad at "society" he wouldn't try to JUST kill Victor. What would be the point? Not to mention he shows no respect to his fellow man in general, let alone sexual attraction. It's all. Pure. Greed.

I don't really think Lord Barcas is gay. He shows more signs of psychopath/sociopath, here is what I've noticed. • over inflated ego. • puts on a charming and intelligent persona in front of others. • manipulative. • implosive. • lack of empathy or remorse for his actions. • fixation on wealth and status. • quickly becomes violent when things don't go according to his plan. So I personally think he probably was a sociopathic conman, perhaps he didn't intend to kill Emily but chose to do so spur of the moment. After doing so he decided he liked it and became a serial killer as well.
@_cherry_soda_

He is a psychopath as far as we know. I'm only saying that, because sociopaths are made not born, unlike psychopaths, and we don't know anything about his home life, up bringing, etc. We have little info, so it's probably safer to guess he is a psychopath.

Sociopathy is inborn, Hendricks. It's a bit of a roulette, and some things can be done to exacerbate or discourage it. A harsh upbringing, exposure to severe punishment, cruelty, survival of scarcify, and other hardships are more likely to develop sociopathy, especially if experienced young so the person gets the idea that mercilessness and opportunism are the way of the world. A psychopath is a sociopath who acts out criminally and antisocially.
@_cherry_soda_
@_cherry_soda_ 7 лет назад
Mortablunt basically what I was trying to say. I have limited knowledge on psychology compared to someone who has a degree in psychology. I think he is a psychopath because he has the traits and we have no knowledge of his upbringing. He could be a sociopath, but we don't know if we don't know his past.
@madmyth3985
@madmyth3985 7 лет назад
Ava Hendricks I know, that's why I said psychopath/sociopath. Since we don't know much of his past it's impossible to tell which he is assuming he is one. I don't have a degree in psychology or anything but I often research serial killers and cult leaders in my spare time. Those two conditions are found pretty often in those types of people which is how I was able to make the connection.

as much as I hate to say this lord barcas is most likely not doing this cause of sexuality but I do believe he is not an actual lord. stay with me here:lord barcas is an actor and because of this he is dramatic and manipulative and because being an actor was actually a job that didn't pay well and at some time was looked at as a bad profession (think of how strippers are looked at today ) he pretended to be a lord to woo Emily who he targeted because he found she was wealthy and in a family of power but unable to convince her parents to approve of the marriage he conned Emily into sneaking her parents fortune and eloping and killing her as a way to move up in the social ladder and keep up an appearance as a Lord. eventually emilys fortune ran out so he came back to seek another family with wealth to do the same.

You see, I thought that too. But then I heard about the 15 year gap and that made me wonder: Victoria could have been born before Emily went missing, but have been very very young when it all went down. Victoria is canonically 19 and I'm assuming Emily was around the same age. This would have made Victoria maybe 5 around the time Emily went missing. A large age gap between the two, but it happens (my oldest sister is 10 years older then me). This would mean that with plenty of persuasion and manipulation, the Everglots could have convinced Victoria that her sister never existed. And if she did slightly remember, I'm sure Emily looks a bit different from what she did years ago, and by now her face would be a faint memory. As for Emily not remembering, her sister would have been 5. She's obviously grown up since then, so she could just straight up not recognize her fully grown little sister.

Wait a second they can still be sisters! Let's look at the ages we're dealing with. Both Emily and Victoria are 19 and Doofus... I mean Barcus is 41 (eww but not something uncommon in their era). So when Barcus met and seduced Emily he would be around 22. Perfect ages that set up a reason why the parents would reject Barcus (whom they never met) and disown Emily for running away (which is why they never bothered to look for a daughter they want to disappear). Because Barcus has no status and no money with his young age. This would further explain why they are so over protective of Victoria refusing her to play the piano ( partially in fear of being reminded of her talented older sister because seriously who buys a piano just for decoration). While we can't know for sure because Emily never confronts Victoria's parents why would Emily finally find peace at the conclusion of this movie? Sure her killer was brought to justice but it's sort of suggested that Emily wasn't Barcus first victim. So why don't you we see the other corpse brides also seeking closure? Because it isn't closure from the killer that Emily needs...I think she was finally brought to peace because she was able to protect the sister that she never knew.
@mariahwilliams4386
@mariahwilliams4386 7 лет назад
Also, perhaps the aging of the corpse is due to the age that they are when they were buried. The old man that you compare Emily to was pretty old so it's no surprise that he's bones already. And while Emily shows slight signs of aging, she was only buried in the prime of her youth...maybe age has another factor to this aging process. But hey she's butterflies now so the world may never know lol

"Lord Barkus is _gay"_ doesn't really make sense. Honestly, I figured you'd say he was an actor, and not a good one, that was conning his way into rich families by doing the old "Fake it til you make it" trick, taking the money, killing/abandoning the woman, and blowing the cash by spoiling himself elsewhere. After all, Emily may have known him under a different name, since no one ever called him by title around her, and she never said his name when she saw him. He was just *"You!"* But, that's just my thought. Other's have probably said it a million times in the comments XD

I agree that he may have been a con man who was trying to trick women into marrying him. I also think he didn't love anyone, if anything he cared more about the money than anything. He probably killed the women so that no one would discover who he really is and that he had been lying to them. If the families of these women had found out, they probably would have taken away the money. At least, that's what I think.

My Theory: The Everglots were caring of Emily, so they were overprotective. After her death, they had Victoria. And because Emily stole her family’s riches, the Everglots went bankrupt. So because Emily ran away to elope with someone, The Everglots wanted an arranged marriage for their new heir so Victoria would not have gone missing and mostly likely killed like Emily.

I also thought on that, but in "remains of the day" there's a line that says: "when her daddy said no she couldn't cope so our lovers came up with a plan to elope" I don't think she just came up to her dad like: "yo I wanna marry this guy you and mom don't know" so maybe Emily's parents met him at some point and unless that had happen waaaay long ago and Barkis were younger it's not possible that they wouldn't recognize the dude that left them broke

See, that wouldn't make much sense since barkis was town hopping because he killed Emily and was passing through the town once more when he heard about victories wedding Emily and victoria had to be cousins because if they were sisters, Emily would be barley 18 and victoria 14 meaning victoria would very clearly remember Emily but since they were cousins and victoria probably never really aw Emily at all no wonder she didn't recognize Emily but victories mother heard about Emily's death from Emily's parents who probably said she found a lover by playing piano and tragically died later which is where victories mother got the idea to keep her daughter safe by telling her the piano was bad and was improper and too passionate for a "lady" and lord barkis is gay and was rebelling against society by "marrying" young women of age like Emily and victoria so we have no true way of telling if Emily was his first victim or not because he was passing through many towns at a time sometimes the same town like in this story where he's passing through a town and hears about a wedding and emily just happens to be buried in that towns forest where no one dared to go because they had no real reason to and this is how he gets his next victim which just so happens to be emily's relative/cousin not her sister because if the girls were sisters don't you think victoria woukld have tried to do something bout her parents covering up her sisters death and trying to ake her forget by running away or standingup to her mother ? try that one on for size

He killed Emily for her money and may have been planing to do so to Victoria, planning to take her family's money as well after killing her. Going from town to town acquiring the money he wants and doesn't need. He may even be a sadist or a phscyopath, having a thirst for blood or death. Seeing girls as they scream for help. " but he didn't actually kill Emily !?" Well maybe he wanted to see her suffer, and beg for help as she was buried alive. Tbh I don't really know ~

Since this movie is set in Victorian times (no character reference intended), has anyone ever wondered if Lord Barkis was inspired by Jack the Ripper? Given how this theory states his hatred of women (the reason behind which I can easily believe), it's not that much of a stretch.

I would think that Emily could be lord Everglott’s younger sister. Emily could have been murdered by lord Barcus when lady Everglott was pregnant with Victoria or when Victoria was just a baby. Lord Everglott may not have actually met Lord Barcus which is why he didn’t recognize him. (It would have been their father who met him) and Emily may have a slower spiritual decomposition due to her unfinished business because the rate at which they turn to bone in the afterlife may not be directly linked to the decomposition of their actual bodies. (The guy that was dead for 15 years might have been a more worn out and weary person due to his age where as Emily was young and killed suddenly so she’s more youthful and decays slower.) It would explain a lot about what’s going on and lord Barcus targeting Victoria so hard and actually marrying her where he didn’t with Emily. It’s why Lord Everglott doesn’t let Victoria play the piano but does keep one in the house, why he didn’t sell the expensive piano when they need money so badly, why he’s so controlling about marrying Victoria off, and why Victoria doesn’t recognize Emily. (Because Emily died when Victoria was either not born yet or was way too young to remember her, and her father resents the younger sister that left his family destitute by stealing the money) this also explains lord Everglotts actions and feelings during the song according to plan.

I read a theory on reddit that Emily is Victoria’s Aunt (Maudeline’s sister)(although she could have been Finis’ sister). I forgot what the person said exactly, but Emily took the money from her family (which means she also stole from her sister/brother). That would explain why they’re broke, and just because she’s an Aunt, doesn’t mean Emily would have met her :).

@bloodprincess800
@bloodprincess800 7 лет назад
Interesting theory, but there's just not enough to back it up. On a different note, I, too, believe Barkis Bittern has been running with this con for years, and that he skips town to avoid suspicion of his being a serial killer. However, I can't really buy into the idea of him being homosexual. Rather, I think he does it for one reason: the simple thrill of it all. I'll explain: You would at first think he does this for the money, right? I did, too. Until I rewatched the movie, again, not too long ago. (Or part of it.) As you know, there's a point in the film where he discovers that the Everglotts don't have a penny to their name. It's shortly after Emily's dead friends come to earth and wreak playful havoc on the village, and the two are alone. Victoria plainly admits that she's broke, and even mocks his reaction to being played, himself. ("Did things not go according to your plan, Lord Barkis?") So basically, he has no real reason to stick around. His work here is done. He could've easily used the commotion to run off, like he originally meant to, and find another rich family to marry into. Towards the climax of the film, when things are finally looking up for everyone, who shows up to crash the party? Barkis. Come back to claim his would-be victim, and take her somewhere they can finally be alone... So he can 'enjoy himself,' in a sense. That's just my own theory, though. I might've missed some details.
@TheFangirlWatches
@TheFangirlWatches 7 лет назад
That's definitely an alternative possibility. Laika is very good about leaving a lot of wiggle room for interpretation. It seemed to me that Barkis didn't run off because he was already married when he found out the Everglott's were broke, which means he takes it at least a little seriously (for the legality of it, if nothing else). Now, killing for sport, I would expect some different behaviors - primarily, a serial killer usually has a normal alter-ego that no one would ever suspect of anything, which, in this case would probably be a wife and children back at home. Now, traveling to kill people? Sure, you don't want to kill a lot of people where you live, you'll get caught! But marrying just for the sake of killing people? There has to be some need to satisfy to go through all that trouble - either to get the money or to punish society however he can.
@bloodprincess800
@bloodprincess800 7 лет назад
Wouldn't that urge to feel the rush of adrenaline qualify as said need to satisfy, though? I hold this theory that I presented, because there are, in fact, killers who do just that.
@TheFangirlWatches
@TheFangirlWatches 7 лет назад
It's a "yes, but..." situation. Yes, that would be a need to satisfy, BUT going through the hassle of marriage doesn't make it the most effective route. I mean, you could be Jack the Ripper and wander around the country, you don't need to marry your victims. There has to be a reason to go after upper class women AND to marry and kill them before taking advantage of your wedding night rights. Even if the motives are financial, you'd still sleep with the women for a week or so before offing them. So, there's some reason he's choosing certain victims, going to the trouble of marrying them, and NOT taking advantage of the marital bed first.

@tatianacueto6815
@tatianacueto6815 7 лет назад
Okay, I'm going to mildly disagree with this theory here. I thought that Emily and Victoria were sisters as well, and I even still believe it. Because of the ending. Remember when Emily turned into butterflies at the end of the movie and flew up into what me and my family perceived as heaven? Well why didn't she go to heaven in the first place? Why didn't all the corpses go to heaven first? I think it's because of some unfinished business all the deceased had, and only after that unfinished business was done, they got to go to heaven then. Obviously Emily had revenge on her agenda, but also maybe was protecting her sister. At least, I would stay in the in-between to protect my sister from some murderer. What if Emily's decayed state had to do with the fact that she wasn't dead when she was buried, and that because she had business with the living still, she didn't decay as fast. She could have gotten a potion or something from the skeleton (whose name I can't remember right now) to delay the decomposition process so she could find her "true love." Now, here are some other things that support the fact that Emily and Victoria were sisters. First, simply look at the resemblance between them, it's there. Second, Emily could play piano in the underworld, Victoria couldn't because her mother wouldn't allow it. But yet they had a piano in the foyer, and Victoria never makes mention that her father plays, or that he ever did, and he doesn't seem the type of man that would do anything other than hunt. So why did they have a piano? Third, Victoria and Emily both have the same idea of what love and marriage should be, such similar thought processes, especially in that era, weren't common, so they both probably had the same people close to them with a falling apart marriage, that they knew they didn't want that. Fourth, there were no other Lords or Ladies in the town the story takes place in, nor are there any (that we know of) in the underworld. Now we know that Victoria's parents were luxury loving and drab, thus indicating that they would despise the underworld that Emily is in. In the beginning of the movie, there's an entire rundown of Victoria's family tree, and none of them appeared to appreciate the simple things in life, so they would probably hate the underworld as well, they'd shut themselves up, away from the rest of the dead, which may explain why we didn't see any of them. Fifth, we didn't see any other murdered brides in the underworld. Now granted, it is huge, but you would think that word would travel around that more brides died the same way Emily did, especially since it all the people in the Tavern knew her story to tell Victor about it. Sixth, and this one goes along with the theory that "Lord" Barkus was gay. So he took Emily's dowry, he probably could have lived quite a while off of it, therefore putting aside the need to marry and kill anyone else. Not only that, but going along with the possibility that Emily was buried alive, it suggests that she was his first murder/con, and was too nervous to check to see if she was actually dead. Now check the age gap between Barkus and Victoria, quite a few years between them. And yet, Victor was around the same age as her. Girls were married off young back then, and so were men. It was told in Emily's story that he used to be young and handsome. Which is partly how he lured her away from her family to kill her. He's old now, and not the best looking, Victoria was probably going to be his last conquest, finish where he started and all that. Anyway, that's it. My theory Lol.

The cousin idea is much more easy to accept. Victoria's parents could've taken Emily in for some reason, most likely to polish her up and get her married into a higher social rank than they occupied. But then, she finds this guy and decided to run off with him against their wishes. They probably never even met Lord Barkis face-to-face, hence why they don't recognize him later. It could also explain why their so obsessed with everything going "according to plan". By keeping much-tighter control over their daughter, they'd avoid having the same trouble they had with their niece.

Here's my story; Everyone knew the Turner family. Thomas and Alison Turner were the richest couple in the whole city and were very proud of it. But they also had two daughters, Emily and Sally Turner. Even from a young age the two sisters were always together. Being the older one, Emily felt she had to look out for her little sister and was always by her side. Sally (despite being a bit nervous at times) was very eccentric and did everything in her power to make her big sister happy. They got along perfectly. But one day, when Emily was 20 and and Sally was 18, they met a man they'd never seen before. Lord Barkis Bittern. He was tall, handsome, and very charming. While Sally felt suspicious, Emily fell in love. She started spending a lot of time with Barkis and began to drift away from her family. Finally, the day came when Lord Barkis asked Emily's father for his blessing. But he said no. Emily was heartbroken and stopped talking to her parents. But one day, Sally found notes under Emily's bed from Lord Barkis! My dearest, Emily, My love, I miss you so much. Every moment I'm away from you I feel as though a part of me is missing. I only wish I could hold you again. My dearest, Emily, I believe you're right, it should be up to us to get married. In fact, I believe we still can. We'll elope without telling anyone! I feel that is the only way we can be together. My dearest, Emily, I know it's hard for you to leave your family, but you have to understand, I need you! I love you, darling, and I can't bare the thought of never seeing you again. My dearest, Emily, I'm so happy you agreed! Meet me at a quarter to three under the old oak tree by the graveyard. And be sure to bring the jewels and gold we'll need. I can't wait to see you in a beautiful wedding dress. Sally angrily went to Emily about the matter. Emily explained that Barkis was the best thing that ever happened to her and that getting married was the only way for her to be happy. And, still wanting her sister to be happy, Sally promised not to tell anyone. That night, Sally tearfully helped her sister get ready and even went and picked flowers from their family's flower garden to make a bouquet. She gave her big sister one final hug before watching the person she looked up to, wanted to be just like, and always tried to make happy disappear into the night. And we all know what happened after that. True to her word, Sally never told her parents what really happened to her sister but she didn't have to keep the secret long anyway. Only a few months later, Sally's broken heart got the best of her. She became really sick and one day, while she sat on a hill, thinking about how perfect her life used to be, she started coughing........harder and harder....until she passed out and fell forward. She didn't survive the fall. Sally was brought to Halloween Town by Dr. Finkelstein but now lives with her husband, Jack Skellington. And their children. She no longer remembers her old life.

Regardless of his sexual orientation, I think Barkis is simple a psycopath/serial killer, I thought about it, then you said it, given how quickly Barkis was already planning to kill Victoria, Emily more than likely wasn't his first victim, hell, I wouldn't doubt that he could've killed again prior to showing up in Victor and Victoria's town. Also, your theory to how he ultimately killed Emily makes sense, I had wondered for the longest time how he did it and just assumed that he bashed her on the head and left her to die either by her injuries or the elements, my grandpa suggested that he choked her to death, but, I figured it would have to have been a quick method as Bonejangles said in his song, "And then baby, everything went black." and the shadows show Barkis lunging at her.

I always thought the old woman said her husband died 50 years ago instead of 15. A google search shows that a body without a coffin can be stripped to bone in 8-12 years but keep in mind, these corpses are very much 'alive' and moving around which would slow down he process of decomposition, I mean Emily has a single maggot and thats about it so I feel like there would be some form of preservation while living in the 'underworld'. And just listen to the voice of the husband, he does not sound to be a super elderly man like his wife who is still alive. I always thought he sadly died at a much younger age than her which would explain why she wouldn't recognize his voice after not hearing it for 50 years. If thats the case than you theory very much could still hold up.

1. What if the Everglotts never actually met Barkis. What if Emily just told them about him, and when she said he didn't have money, they said no, and then she tried to leave. They never would have seen his face, so it's possible he could have gone after Victoria, maybe assuming they had a dowry for their second daughter too, without being recognized. 2. No one ever found Emily's body. She was close enough to her father to ask if she could marry someone, so she would probably have eloped and then been in touch eventually. She would have missed her parents. Her eloping would have become a suspicious disappearance, unless her family (Everglotts or another family) did disown her out of anger and shame and resentment over their own daughter stealing from them, Emily never dared to reach out after that, perhaps out of fear of more rejection. 3. Just because Emily and Barkis didn't tell anyone they were eloping doesn't mean that someone didn't know they wanted to be together but weren't allowed. A best friend perhaps. If someone had seen his face, then why would Lord Barkis return to the town where he killed Emily, considering the risk of being recognized by someone who could have suspected that Emily "left" with him and she isn't with him now (unless you consider that people visit towns alone). 4. I found it odd that Emily didn't recognize Barkis right away, suggesting that there had been a longer time than 5 years since Emily's murder. Surely she would remember the face of someone she loved. That face would have had to change with age significantly enough to delay recognition. It's possible the Everglotts never actually met Barkis the first time, and 20 or so years - long enough to cause delayed recognition by Emily - so they could have had another daughter, Victoria, who you said is around 19. 5 - The Everglotts look to be around 50, and Victoria is 19. There's quite an age gap between them for the time for "one child" unless it took longer for her to get pregnant, or, according to your theory, they could have had Emily first so the age of a young adult first daughter would make their age make more sense. The fashion in this movie suggests late-ish 1800s. After 1823 it was legal for girls to get married starting at 12 years old. Mrs Everglott then would have been 12 when she had Emily - which is not impossible - if Emily eloped at 19. If Emily died around 19 or so, Victoria's age, Mrs Everglott would had been 31, still at an age to have a healthy pregnancy. If Mrs Everglott looks about 50 in what would be 1873, the present year, according to my theory, then it makes sense - 12+19+19=50. They could have been sisters.

I have had similar theories but never thought he might be gay. It's so amazing that you come up with these theories and they fit so well! I always thought emily was some how related to the Everglot family because the actually parents were in it so much. If it was just for the wedding, they wouldn't be in it as much as they are. That always gave me a suspicion that they were related. Your theories truely shed a new light on the stories or movies you discuss. Keep up the great work! :)

As for decomposition, what if the earth that Emily was buried in partly preserved her. Since her skin seems stretched tight and the eyes are still there. Usually the eyes are one of the first things to go. I also heard that, a body buried in a casket, can fester in its own fluids and the guy who was buried 15 years ago simply lost everything do to it melting off or decomposing. Also, maybe Victoria didn't recognize Emily, because she looked different in life as in death. As for the Lord, he could have changed in the time to and was therefore not recognized.

Yes they both had a plan about stealing money from her family. The song says, “So they conjured up a plan to meet late at night They told not a soul, kept the whole thing tight Now, her mother's wedding dress fit like a glove You don't need much when you're really in love Except for a few things, or some told Like the family jewels and a satchel of gold Then next to the graveyard by the old oak tree On a dark foggy night at a quarter to three She was ready to go, but where was he?” So that means he convinced her to meet him with the money before she got killed.

That was there point they thought they where attractive but she wasn't but the fact they said And who'd have guessed in a million years that our daughter, with the face of an otter in disgrace, That means that only one out of a long line of there family came out normal looking. If they had an other daughter "Emily" dis own or not they would make a comment that would address this or not. I got a couple points: 1) Emily might of been marrying someone she didn't love, May have been celebrating with family(crowded house ) 2) Lord barcus may have took the opportunity to sneak into a rich house and steal from them only to find Emily on her own in a room he intended to steal from 3) taking advantage of Emily's situation he agrees to meet with her and tricks her to fall in love 4) the family wouldn't of allowed her to marry someone she loves there for she had no choice to run away 5) the parents would of never met Lord barcus since he was a secret love, and may not of known the family was still poor till he came back to realise they have another daughter of age and he was too far into the plan for him to back out
@karenb5969
@karenb5969 5 лет назад
You had me at Emily being buried alive which sounds pretty accurate. But I highly doubt Victoria and Emily had any relations. I also doubt Lord Barkus was gay. Just marrying women for wealth and destroying them and leaving the town before he is sought out, kinda like Jack the ripper deal going on. Emily's real family must of left the town after her death or probably from a near by town. If Emily wanted to see her family she would of had the opportunity to do so on quite a few occasions. So other than Emily being buried alive and possible deteriating of corpses, I have to decline any of the other theories. 🤷

An idea came to me. Why was Baras so surprised to see Emily again? He was in a room full of dead people and yet he seemed very surprised only to see her again. Also, another thing I was confused about is how Victoria's family became poor if Emily really wasn't part of the household. And follow up question, how come we don't see Baras's other victims in the land of the dead if he committed more than one murder?

I actually had a theory with the children thing before I watched this which may explain this I actually have a theory that Emily may have been pregnant when she died. In the scene when she is upset and laying in her coffin she's picking flowers and says "Roses, for eternal love. Lilies for sweetness." And when she gets to the 3rd bouquet of flowers she pauses for a brief moment and says "Baby's breath" kind of dejectedly. I feel like this indicates that Emily definitely may have wanted a child before she died or might have already been pregnant with Lord Barkis' child. Again this theory is very far fetched so it probably isn't true but it's interesting to think about-

Naah I don't thinkt they ar related if so Lord Barkis would have known that Victorias family don't have money and lord Barkis married victoria only for the money and only if the brides dies he can have the money. When he run out of money he search for a new victim to manipulate into marry him. Emily and Victoria cannot be sisters they should have recognized each other then which they didn't not even Victorias parent who should have recognized their own daughter and lord Barkis. and definitely recognized lord Barkis. I would be pretty surprised to if someone married a corpse.
@datkitten
@datkitten 7 лет назад
my theory was it wasn't originally shallow that is was more like a ditch and that her death took place in the fall. it wouldn't be cold enough for a warm wedding dress but it be colder in the ground. there would also be more of a chance for mudslides to happens and for leaves to fill the ditch... it would also be hard for someone who had lost a lot of blood to climb out. which is why her hand looked way it was reaching out. the time can vary a lot do to season and depth of hole how much body was exposed for a certain amount of time. when he stabbed her he nicked the heart enough for a slow death. after being stabbed she stumbled and fall down the ditch. hitting her head on the way down only being knock out for few minutes. to Barkcus it would seem she was dead and he would walk off. i honestly think Emily was the first one he killed and that there where others. i honestly think this happens when he would have been around 30's so this could have happened 17 to 13 yrs before Victor and Emily's wedding. She stated they decided to run away as well meaning she could have left a note behind to her family. they wouldn't think to look in town or near by woods but near by villages. i honestly think she is related to Everglots but is more of a aunt as lord Everglot would be her old brother. that she lived there with her parents. while her brother lived in another family estate til his mother and father pasted. why Victoria may not remember aunt Emily and she stole a large amount so the family funds would just about run out by the time her brothers daughter was of marriage age. also would have a good reason why Victoria's parents where so strict about her life, no music dressing in fashion that was extremely modest, learning very basic things like knitting and sewing. it would also explain why they don't really recognize Emily or Barkcus but he does sim vaguely familiar to her brother and his wife. Maybe met a one family event before they decided to run a way... they would also have not known if his sister was dead or not. hell he could have been using a different name back then as well... Emily does seem a bit confused by at first till she sees his face she doesn't even use his name.. another thing could be lord Everglot would want a plainer daughter then one who looked like his sister. he would berate her for being pretty then praise her for it because of what his sister did. that's my theory though i still have a lot holes to work out.

I have a suggestion, perhaps Emily, being free-spirited ended up roaming the town and met Barkis, later she told her parents about him, however, they disagreed about the marriage. And about decaying, I'm not exactly sure how that works in the Corpse Bride universe. If Emily died a few years ago, I guess that somebody would remember her. And judging by the appearance of the Everglots, looking pretty old to be parents of a 19yo in a Victorian era, Victoria's mother could be around 20 when she gave birth to Emily, which means that she gave birth again at 40. We could suggest that it is possible that Victoria was a toddler when Emily died or was about to be born. And Emily's behavior is definitely the reason why the Everglots are so strict with Victoria.
@EditorOfSL

New theory - Emily and Victoria are related, but as cousins. After Mr Everglott’s brother, or brother-in-law, was basically robbed by Emily, he died without any money to leave to the rest of his family...hence their poverty. Just a thought to help this theory still kind of work. It would explain how Emily and Victoria never met if they were more distantly related.

I'm surprised she didn't mention the lyrics in -'the remains of the day' where he says "you don't need much when your really in love except for a few things or so I'm told like the family jewels and a satchel of gold" which would make sense as to why they went bankrupt because Emily took the money to leave with her secret lover and that's why they didn't know what he looked like or who he was when he tried to come and marry Victoria. And there is a chance Victoria was adopted after the death of Emily and thats why they don't recognize each other

Back then, a lady who had passion was frowned upon in upper crust families. Victoria not being allowed music and so on was normal. So then we see Emily who has almost too much passion. Leads me to believe her family wasn't at all wealthy or upper class. Instead they were middle to lower. Barkus picked her out as one of his first few kills. Possibly his second or third. He was new to the idea of it all and lacked skill. His first kill most likely a crime of passion. (EG: maybe during the honeymoon he couldn't get it up, this caused the woman to perhaps laugh or whatnot. Causing the "lord" to murder her, creating his feel for it.) Now, he killed for money. The second kill was most likely a bit sloppy, but otherwise successful. Thats when he created the scheme. "I'm a Lord of something, I'm rich, I'm here to take your daughter away because I love her and promise her the world, now give me all your money." By the time he got to Emily he was pretty good at this scheme. She fell for it....fast. Too fast. She was he one who wanted to run away with him. Emily is a passionate girl. Remember? LB indeed, went with her plan to run away, but told her to get the money gold and jewels. Her family had none really. Just a bit to live on. Emily, being the over she is, took what she could and found him in the meeting place. When she showed him what she had brought, he became angry, not satisfied with the sum. He lashed out at her and killed her in anger. Thus creating a bigger mess. He had no other option than to dig a quick hole and toss her in, not bothering to cover her. Clearly it's cold where she is, the temperature, or lack of it, would keep her good and preserved for a while before rot set in. After months her body would be covered by the earth and clearly a tree itself. It planted it's roots in her. Once spring and summer hit, her body began to thaw and it decomposed quickly enough to expose some limbs. Then came fall and winter once more, halting the process. This was around the time Victor found her. So you see, LB hasn't been doing this long. Only 3 or 4 kills under his belt. His scheme take time to pull off. Emily was dead maybe a year. When LB found out about the wedding in tow he jumped on this. He would finally pull off the big one so to speak. He had perfected his lie in his eyes. He presented himself to the family, only to be met with suspect. Clearly he wasn't as good as he thought. But they let him in. When Victor "Ran away" LB took this as an open door and offered himself to be the groom. The destitute family jumped on it! Who wouldn't! Once the marriage was complete, the party was underway. LB had no intent to kill Victoria, not right away. He wanted to get the money he was owed and leave town with her. From there he would kill her and do it clean. Like he'd practiced. Unfortunately, the dead walked that night lol!! Now we see him lose his cool! He really shows Victoria who he is. He's wide eyed, and afraid. He's unhinged, his mind not all there! A man with actual standing would keep himself together. LB was nothing more than a deranged sociopath with borderline personality. He was a killer, nothing more.If he were a real person living in our time today, he would have been caught by his second murder and arrested. Now, as for the girls being sisters, throw that in the toilet and flush. Emily didn't even live in their part of town.
