I am Filipino, born and raised. My middle name Guardian (pronounced as Guwardyan) and last name Saenz (pronounced as Signz) is Spanish. Some of my relatives look very mestizo while I look darker. My grandmother who speaks fluent Spanish said I'm darker probably because of a Basque heritage. Didn't matter to me though as I always consider myself an Asian with Hispanic influence. These Pacific Islander thing just came out recently and mostly because of US born Filipinos. Maybe they thought it's more cool or makes it easier to identify their ethnicity. Are you a micronesian, melanesian or polynesian? I'm a Micronesian. Micronesians, especially Chamorros are more similar to Asians (especially southeast asians) than the rest of Pacific islanders. We, as the pacific islanders, it's very ridiculous to classify filipinos as pacific islander. Being hispanic is just a linguistic background. You are hispanic, if the native language of your countrymen is Spanish, not any pacific languages.

It’s why Micronesian languages (excluding Chamorro) are very different from other Austronesian languages. Dark History- Filipinos are not hispanic if we only talk about genetics. Spaniards (mostly) avoided to have children with filipinos because they believe that they our superior class and even kept their culture and languages away from them out of fear that they will understand them and overthrow them. They even used the detegatory term “Indio” to refer to Filipinos. They mainly got their Spanish names because that’s they were baptized to Christinaty in order to fully convert them and control the country. Since Philippines are so far from Spain, the generals and the friars are the one who ruled the country and done a lot of horrible things without the knowledge of the Spanish crown. Filipinos have suffered alot under their rule and that leads to the revolution in 1896.

The term Hispanic (Spanish: hispano) refers to people, cultures, or countries related to Spain, the Spanish language, or Hispanidad. There was also Spanish influence in the former Spanish East Indies, including the Philippines, Marianas, and other nations. However, Spanish is not a predominant language in these regions and, as a result, their inhabitants are not usually considered Hispanic.

"they look Pacific Islander...Hawaiian maybe" The reason why you think that is because when you see Hawaiians, they are likely Filipinos. Real native Hawaiians are diminishing in number. When USA took Hawaii, they brought migrant workers to help replace the population. Filipinos are one of them, they were brought in by USA to harvest sugar cane starting in 1927. The Filipinos were not welcomed at first, like all of the foreigners descending on their island. Where the US used force (like killing thousands and taking their queen) the Filipinos used their smile, and they tried integrating with Hawaiians. But it took decades of convincing them, Hawaiians had disparaging names for Filipinos and white people. Till today they call white people Haole. I don't think they call Filipinos bad names today because Hawaii now is super mixed. In fact, to qualify as Indigenous Hawaiian you only need show 48% Hawaiian DNA, thats how mixed they are, because they know there aren't any full Hawaiians anymore. Most are indeed Filipino mixed with Portuguese (white) and a drop of Hawaiian. And many many are 100% Filipino calling themselves Hawaiian, whether they are born there or not. True fact. So when you picture Hawaiian, you are probably picturing Filipino-American.

Chinese ancestry among Filipinos are around 35% probably because, before even the Spanish came the Han Chinese were already in the Philippines hundreds of years ago, there were a lot of emigration, marrying locals, and trading. On the other hand, Spanish ancestry among Filipinos are only around 5%, the Western European emigration to the Philippines is much lower compared to Southern America because of the distant location of Western Europe to the Philippines. Korean ancestry is non-existent in the genetic make up of Filipinos, there were no records in history that Koreans emigrated in the Philippines, or have a similar case to Chinese and Spaniards.

(Very typical of being colonized)If you didn’t you got hit with a lot of disadvantages like you weren’t allowed to own land, you paid higher taxes etc. This practice was going on even in the 70s long after Spain left. In actuality only about 6% of Filipinos have a significant amount of Spanish in them and by significant I mean 30%. Whereas compared to Latin America where their blood is about 75%. The reason Polynesians are different from Filipinos is because the Polynesians mixed with the Melanesians. All Pacific Islanders, Micronesians and Polynesians (except Chamorro), have Melanesian dna. It’s what makes us unique from the South East Asians.

You guys got it entirely wrong. Filipinos have lighter skin not because of intermixing, but because the picture theyve shown, are Aetas, which is the first indigenous people that entered the Philippines which is of negroid race. And the most common race in the Philippines that is like 99% of the country, are austrenesians which is of mongoloid race, and they came from southern china. Even if a filipino have spanish ancestry, most of them only had like 5-1%, thats not enough to alter their genes to be more "pale" Chinese genes are way more prevalent

Hello I,m Chinese-Filipino, i want to explain! Most of the 110 million people of the Philippines are Austronesians. The most ancient homeland of the 500 million Austronesians worldwide is modern day Taiwan and Jiangsu and Fujian provinces of Southern China. So yes, the Filipinos and other Southeast Asians are indeed South Chinese, just there is a group of South Chinese that dispersed entirely in ancient times (Austronesians and their relatives Tai-Kadai and Austroasiatic) and another that is playing a significant role in the region in modern times (Southern Han Chinese). Yes filipinos are came from China and Taiwan.

the group of Pacific Islander Nation does not include the Philippines and the FILIPINOS in particular!!What country is Pacific Islander?Pacific Islanders refer to those whose origins are the original peoples of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. Polynesia includes Hawaii (Native Hawaiian), Samoa (Samoan), American Samoa (Samoan), Tokelau (Tokelauan), Tahiti (Tahitian), and Tonga (Tongan).Only Fil-Ams have these identity crisis.Anthropologist refered FILIPINOS as Austronesians not Pacific Islander!!they can tell it from the HAPLOGROUPS and Genetics!!

The truth is most Spaniards who came to the Philippines are from Andalucia, Basque Region, and Madrid. Greeks from Malta, as well as Italians from Sardinia, arrived with them; then French from Gibraltar and Camargue migrated to the Philippines too and the Portuguese settled in many provinces too. These people started to call themselves “FILIPINOS.” They wanted to break away from the power of the KING OF SPAIN. Only those “Castilians, Argentinians and Mexicans are loyal to the king during that time.” They studied and learned all the native dialects in the country; they mixed the Spanish creoles “Ermiteño and Basque Caviteño” with the local dialects and created the “TAGALA” known as TAGALOG. The Native locals of the country were called “ INDIOS.” They thought they were similar with the Incans, Aztecs, and Pacific Islanders.” Governor Narciso Claveria not only imposed the Spanish Names but FORCE ALL OF THESE EUROPEANS TO Intermarry WITH THE LOCALS. NOLI ME TANGERE explains that the “MODERN FILIPINOS are a mixture of EUROPEANS, LATINOS, AND ASIANS.”

The Modern Filipinos are originated from Southern China, “About 40% of the Philippine population are people who’s ethnic origin originated from Southern China whilst the majority’s ethnic origin originated from Ancient East Asia (*Austronesians) Do Filipinos have Spanish blood? Many people in The Philippines think they have Spanish ancestry and families spread that story down through the generations, but the reality is the vast 99% majority of the Philippine population have no Spanish ancestry. Why is it that only 3% to 5% of Filipinos have Spanish blood despite 300 years of colonisation? Because Spain didn’t have the same policies for Philippines compared to South America where mass extensive race mixing, genocide, and cultural replacement all occurred. Their also wasn’t a large migration of Spaniards in Philippines in the first place hence why the old culture of the Philippines is still attained and most of the Philippine population do not carry Spanish ancestery. Are Filipinos and Pacific islanders look the same? Yes, Pacific Islanders are originated from Taiwan and The Philippines, but, are Filipinos and Pacific Islanders look the same? the answer is, nope, Pacific Islanders are heavily mixed with Papuans and Melanesians, while a sizable portion of the Philippine population are Asians, mixed with Southern Chinese and other East and Southeast Asians groups.
