Alfatradiol is also a route to consider for 40+. My DHT levels are super low (150) so I don't need Finasteride anymore at 40.

Difficult to say if implanted hairs are forever or not. Especially without medication. The only thing that is forever are the scars you get from going to a hair mill

My dad was a NW6. I’m the youngest of 5 brothers. Three out of my four brothers are NW6s. Only my oldest brother at age 63 has a decent amount of hair for his age. He’s like a NW4 and no crown loss. I’ve been taking finasteride off and on since my early 30’s. I’m 51 and have retained a decent amount of hair compared to my brothers and many of my cousins. A family function looks like a bald men convention where everyone looks the same.

Better to use Finasteride since the balding scalp has many more times the DHT concentration than the donor scalp etc.

Absolutely right about the ages. A guy in his 40s, 50s or 60s probably wont have to worry as much since their DHT is naturally getting lower. Fin might not hurt and might help but it gets less likely as they get older that theyll go completely bald.

Hair still thins in old age though. My dad never went bald but did thin out a lot in his 50s and 60s.

@@StevenDavies-el8ss 50s and 60s arent really old age yet. My dad is 89 and still has hair even though he started noticeably losing it in his 30s. He was a slow balder. . But to this day he still has hair.

I may try the topical. Dr. Diep recommended I take Finasteride when he gave me my transplant in 2018, but I had horrible side effects. I got lucky I didn't end up with some permanent issues. My thinness in the crown is still there, but hasn't gotten any worse over the years, and the 2700 Diep put in front are still there. (FUT) I turn 71 in December. I wonder if F is better than Minoxidil..?

There is no clinical evidence that Finasteride causes anything permanent, especially not the so-called post-Finasteride syndrome.

@@Rohit-rx5rz I felt achy with light flu like symptoms every day for the month I took it. But it was the sexual side effects that really nailed me. My understanding is F can can cause some permanent sexual issues. I had a nearly complete loss of libido and ability to function. It was horrible. I believe this describes what happens to a percentage of people taking oral F. A lot of people have no issues with it...but I can't recommend Fin to anybody...based on my personal experiences.

@@dahur i too took it for six months 7 month's back and still havent recovered from its sides which i got like low libido, numb tool etc, low pleasure while eja etc. Still havent recovered. Planning to take kt again since its the only med rjay work's Btw What age u took, and ur current age Also didnt u tell ur doc abt this. Also have h recovered from the sides completely

Transplanted hair depends on where you take the hair. If the hair is taken from exteme donor safe area, you might not lose the transplanted hair. If it is transplanted from areas that has a chance of balding in extreme future, you are at risk of losing those hairs without Finasteride/ Dutasteride. But even if transplanted hair is taken from extreme donor safe area, you will have other non transplanted hair around transplanted hair who are at a risk of DHT sensitivity and miniaturization and will lose density due to non transplanted hair near / around transplanted hair falling off. So it is better to be on Finasteride/ Dutasteride even after transplant.

so as someone who is now 43, does hairloss slow down anyway as you get older due to dht levels? ive had hairloss since early 20s, but its not accelerated in 20 years, kinda the same . and what s the best test you can do to see where you are in terms of dht level? serum dht test or scalp dht test ? is there a high low reading we can go off ??? thanks

I had horrible side effects from fin (topical and even in micro dose), had no choice but to stop using (I do use minoxidil for many years, its efficacy is limited but I continue to try and keep what's left). I'm nw 4V and probably need 5k graft in case of HT but decided not to do it, as there is no chance that I can take fin to maintain natural look in the long run. So yes, I gave up basically on DHT blockers and buzzcut my hair. I come from a family of bald men from my father's side, have one brother with NW 2 hair who was blessed with genes from my mom's side of the family, another brother who is NW7 and me somewhere in between. Sure, it's better to have hair then to get bald so if you are balding just shave/buzzcut your hair. It can look cool if you grow a beard and go to the gym, but of you a white pale skinny guy then you're pretty much f*** up, it means you will have to get jacked in order to fit into some kind of style. I did try many remedies over the years such as herbals, LLLT etc these things doesn't work against DHT.

@@Rohit-rx5rz Brain fog, was forgetting things, and could not concentrate at work and in general. Also could not get decent sleep, woke up few times at night, maybe it also increased the brain fog as I was dizzy. The sides disappear after 2 weeks from stopping usage.

I lost a lot of density 4 years post opp on fin and minox. They are not perminate. just extend you hair line 4-10 years out.

You very likely have a problem with the quality of Finasteride. Start using Propecia and do DHT tests before and after. Also store under 30C temperature!

@@trollzone1 what I’m telling you that there are low quality finasteride brands out there that DONT lower your DHT enough. I have experienced this and confirmed it with DHT serum tests before/after. Hair transplant doctor on RU-vid Gary Linkov also said this that it happens to his patients and first thing is he switches them on good quality brand Propecia.
