Don't waste your money. I bought one and it was like $70. I never use it, and the damn hose is always flopping around even when I try to secure it. I moved my water bottle to the top tube (i do have mounts, but you can buy adapters). Make sure you mount it upside down near the steerer or you'll cut your thighs on the holder. Then energy drinks/powder and extra bottles in my frame bag. Also, Apidura makes the best bags in the world for biking. I have their entire setup for my gravel bike and it's sturdy, and rain cannot penetrate the fabric. Also, the full frame bag makes you more Aero, if you care about speed.
Many thanks for your comment William, I guess you can still use the one that you have for backpacking for bikepacking, I find it useful for overnight rides to carry a bit of extra water.
I really enjoyed this review. I tried the Apidura frame bladder but maybe because of my small frame, when I need to use a bladder I prefer to carry it in a running pack like the Salomon skin packs. I have no room for bottles with a frame pack and I much prefer the rock solid reliability and convenience of bottles for training, bikepacking and long races. Also I found my Apidura bladder was tricky to close and not exactly as fool-proof as a regular (up-right, not horizontal) bladder. It leaked during a test in my kitchen so I just couldn't trust it out on a long ride.
Thanks Mike, true I find bottles much easier to use, however bladders are good if you want to use a full frame bag, thats normally the only case i prefer bladder over bottles.
Thanks! Many people hate bladders but I'm definitely a fan. I use a 2.5L Dakine bladder in a Camelbak fanny pack that I modified with a quick-disconnect and Camelbak hose. I've used all bite valves and find the Camelbak so much easier to drink from and clean. And I use a pair of salad tongs to keep the bladder open for drying on the dish rack 🙂
Many thanks for your comment and the hack for drying the bladder :) I am definitely getting the Camelbak hose to replace the one that comes with the Apidura bladder.
Wow, thank you for the video. I didn't know that you could fit the small bladder to the half frame Apidura bag 😀👍 I was thinking about how to carry more water inside the triangle of my e-bike without the big battery getting in the way.
I don't know if you can say that the size of the Apidura is a plus. The same can be said that it is a minus because it can hold less water, it is more a feature than a disadvantage / advantage. How tall are you that I had to cut so many pipe? This is quite a standard size of a pipe, you can get it in stores?
Many thanks for your comment :) the size works well for me to carry a bit of extra water for overnight rides. I am 174 cm and my frame size is 54. You can get the pipe in some online stores.
Nice Product! But it's not fit for me. I have a lot of stuff inside my frame bag, so there's not enough space anymore. But it's a nice product, very good review.
Many thanks for your comment :) thats true my frame bag is pretty full most of the time too , I dont use the bladder all the time, only to carry extra water for overnight rides.
hi, thanks for the vid! do you find the apidura bladder has any taste? i have been hesitant to get one for that reason. I had a bad experience with a hydrapak product and i think this is the same material. thansk!
Many thanks for your comment :) I personally do not find it has any taste, however, I washed the bladder and the hose before using it for the first time as you can detach easily the hose from the bladder.
The issue I have with bladders like this, especially on multi day bikepacking, is you can’t really put energy drinks in them. As the bladder and especially the tubes can start to grow mould very easily as bladders are difficult to keep clean. Better for water only, but then this means a person might need to then carry a bottle if they want energy fluid. So for practice reasons of keeping my bottle clean, being able to use energy drinks and to enable easier water filtration I tend to use bottles. I also feel that with bottles I can clearly see how much fluid I have left. I do love Apidura stuff though 🙂🙂
Many thanks for your comment :) I agree, I had the same issue with my previous bladder it was difficult to wash, but the Apidura one has a super big opening which makes it easy to wash and you can also detach hose. However I only carry water in the bladder to avoid any mould and as the frame bag with the bladder leaves enough space to keep my bottle cages, I carry energy drinks and electrolytes in bottles. Thats why I did choose the fullframe bag, to be able to carry also bottles. I use the bladder mostly for overnight rides :)
@@Buzzalong.cycling ^this. I chose the 3l and a full frame bag from RoguePanda, and I can fit a waterbottle in the top compartment, and since I have 3L of clean water in the bladder, I can mix my energy drinks/carbo-whatever to a pretty high ratio, almost gel-like, which allows for a greater density of calories in a smaller package, for longer trips without having to give up fresh water...
I tried it but did not like the fact that you need to suck the water quite high which takes some effort compared to bottle wich you just squeeze. Its annoying especially when I am out of breath on the top of the hill and want to drink before going downhill.
@@alanendurace Exposure Joystick MK13 is good, potent and not too heavy. Otherwise, the Lezyne CLASSIC DRIVE 700XL, is the one I currently have for short night rides.
