Are Jigs even necessary with a CNC machine? (stay tuned for an important PSA after the video)

Today on Hangin With Harv, we're making a jig that will allow us to quickly and easily create a batch of 4 coasters at a time. Using the laser and our T-track spoil board setup to locate the jig each time, we are able to speed up the process while reducing the typical waste experienced when creating projects on the CNC machine. I think this project turned out well and am thinking about additional jigs for the CNC.
If you liked this project, give me a thumbs up and leave me a comment as I would love to hear from you.

Thanks Harv - maybe you should sought sponsorship from the manufacturer of your laser alignment system. Looks good. Cheers

Hi Harv, have been enjoying your CNC videos...Just wondering if you plan to make a video on how you designed 4 x coasters and what software was used... Im an Aussie, and just starting out....I am already planning to use your laser pointer method.

Hey Harv, great video. How many coasters do you have in a set and also I'm new to the cnc thing and was wondering how you set the placement of the blanks to correspond with the v-bit starting in the proper place for each blank? I am using a Shapeoko 3XXL with the carbide create program. Not quite at the 3D level yet. Also I did go ahead and set up a t-track waste board similar to yours and find it does do a fine job of clamping down the stock...if I don't need to cut too close to the edges. Thanks again for the great video.

I'm all for using jigs but why would you need to make 4 passes to cut through 1/2" material? I'd personally use a 1/2" bit & cut it in one pass with a compression bit. How many coasters do you usually make?

Oh ok I understand, I'm new to cnc & I'malways concerned that the MDF jig would wear out quickly & let the pieces move around. What type of wood are you using? It seems like oak chips alot when I do a profile cut. I'm not sure if I'm cutting too fast or what the issue is
