Pamela can you do a video for people who are aging and have no family. How can we prepare if we don't have much money and no family?

I’m caring for my parents (my father passed last month) and my mom is now looking to go into assisted living after rehab but doesn’t have a lot of money. Both of my parents maintained they couldn’t afford nursing homes before my dad passed, but it’s strange to me that the elderly that can’t afford fancy places don’t have any place to go. My mom’s side of the family is large but no one is looking to help her. My mom has a lot of cardiac issues and has TIAs. If she came to live w me she would be alone home all day while I am at work and the kids are at school. My dad’s side aren’t in this country. Anyway I am newly divorced and my girls’ dad took took off 3 years ago. I will most likely have no family in 20 years when I hit 65. I definitely will not impose on my kids for care. I’m watching for my mom but also for myself. I stayed in a long term marriage from a young age that didn’t help my health or finances any favors. I support my kids alone and my mom now…and something has to give and it can’t be my kids or my health again. I seriously injured myself twice in the last year picking up my mom. I’m wracked w guilt not being able to care for her anymore but like this poster said I want to plan now for myself if I can. Thanks so much for these videos

Thank you so much for your experience. I am not a care giver, however I was about 10years ago. I am 63 and I am down with very messed up back. I am on temporary disability. My daughter is my caregiver. I am interested in your experience for planning for my future. So I so appreciate you.❤

Good video I can just imagine the cost of a nursing home. Rent, utilities, professional medical care etc just to begin with. It would make sense that people would need to share a room

Thank you. The cost of care in the U.S. is exorbitant and keeps rising. Sometimes practicality wins out.

Throwing a hail Mary here. Me and my sis are so lost on what to do for our parents. My mom had back surgery in November 2019 and has basically been confined to a wheelchair since. She has had multiple falls since then, resulting in further injuries, most recently a few months ago. My dad had been caring for her, and recently he was diagnosed with brain cancer, after finding out his lung cancer is back. He is now to the point where he is unable to care for her. We have tried getting her back in the rehab center for 24-7 care, but they are telling us she needs to be in the hospital for 3 days before they can admit her. The hospital is not helpful, basically telling us "you can try bringing her into the ER", but it's not an emergency on her end, it's an emergency because my dad can't take care of her. Me and sis can't care for her 24-7, so this is the only option we can think of, but we don't even know if they will keep her for the prerequisite 3 days. Plus, she may have exhausted insurance for this type of care this year. We can't afford to pay out of pocket. Can you or someone please send me info on who we can call for help or what we can do? Thank you in advance. My dad is a veteran and he barely gets the care he needs, after being exposed to agent orange in Vietnam and the bad water on Paris Island NC, and they do absolutely nothing for the spouses. What a cruel world.

@@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert My mother in-law just passed and she wanted anything to be done to keep her alive! She had three ribs broken during CPR and didn’t recover.
@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert
@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert 10 месяцев назад
@@bluesdirt6555- I am sorry to hear about your loss. I suspect it's a blessing in disguise for you. There is a lack of education about health that can result in a desire to live beyond having quality of life. If you research CPR, it's rarely a solution for an elderly person. Broken ribs are frequent. And what few in the healthcare system explain is that if your body dies and you are elderly you won't wake up "better" than you were before your body died. Your quality of life will likely be worse and more challenging.

Medicare does pay for rehabilitation in nursing homes. Medicaid is a different benefit.
