Are Merry and Pippin Lost Forever? 

So happy you are to the ents. Just pulled out my copies of the books, and had to go find the passage when Theoden sees the ents and Gandalf basically says, “oh they didn’t notice you because the entirety of your lineage is all but a passing season to them.” I love how the long lived ents are constructed, solemn and sad, these beautiful holdovers from a bygone age.

That’s a great thought/feeling to have…I don’t know where I am, but I’m not lost. I’ve always wondered about that tree that Tom Bombadil had to correct like a naughty dog to not eat the hobbit…what made it a not-normal tree? What animated it?

The ents are quite capable of piling up huge blocks of stone, or breaking away rough blocks of stone from the rock, to create a rough staircase - remember how they break down the wall around Orthanc, later. If Treebeard wanted a way up to that ledge so he could get some sun and overlook the forest, and maybe watch what's happening at the forest border to discover any threats to his forest (men or orcs approaching with fire and axes) without needing to go there, he'd be quite capable of creating those steps up to get there.

We just heard of another three sets of eyes that saw the smoke from cremating the uruk hai mentioned in the last video, by the way: Merry, Pipin and Treebeard. (Sorry-but-not-sorry for being a pedant... 😇)

I think Pippin was merely being a hobbit: able to talk lightly about grave matters. I agree that it was the Entwash that cured them. What do you mean "the other first mention of the Ents?" And did you notice that later, in The Two Towers (Book III, near the end of Chapter X), when Treebeard enters the Hobbits into the Lore of the Living Creatures, he lists the creatures in a different format. He says, "Ents the earthborn, old as mountains, the wide walkers, water drinking, and hungry as hunters, the Hobbit children, the laughing-folk, the little people," This is different from the format in this chapter, wherein Treebeard lists each animal in one clause, half a line. I don't get this. Were there two lists? Incidentally, the two links you provide do not send me to a recording of CS Lewis, but rather back to this video.

The blink you described makes sence. Other then that, perhaps it refers to the sun coming in and out of the clouds? Bit of a reach though.
