The song that treebeard sings about the Entwives in the Rob Inglis audiobook is particularly beautiful.

I generally tune out the songs, but I too really like that one. Lament for Boromir is another one of my favorites.

Treebeard mentioning how the Entwives would like the Shire always reminds me of the moment back in The Shadow the the Past where Sam and Ted Sandyman are talking in the Green Dragon about Tree-Men up beyond the north moors, that Halfast had reportedly seen. There are of course many other possibilities from Hal imagining it, a Huorn, or perhaps a Troll or some other monster. With regards to the Merry and Pippin entering Lothlorien, it is easy to forget just how remarkable that really is. Even having received messengers from Elrond ahead of them, Haldir, Rumil and Orophin are initially incredibly distrustful of the fellowship. Without those messengers, Legolas being of their kin and Aragorn being known to them it seems likely that they would have at best been turned away. Thank you for the videos, they are a pleasure to watch and I am sorry to hear that you are discontinuing them. Wishing you all the best!

I have always wondered if Sam's cousin saw an Ent or not. I like to think he did

Thank you! There was much in this chapter that I have never understood, some I didn't even realize I didn't understand. You have begun explaining it, and done a very good job of it. Thanks again! Very well-done video!

I’ve been away from RU-vid a bit, but what a great welcome back it was to find this video in my feed! I think your analysis of this chapter is spot on (as usual and expected). I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time to make this kind of video detailing the linkages and meanings behind the “scenes”. This particular part is often ignored by so many other creators. I hope you enjoy doing this (so you will keep on doing it)! InscrutableJohn

I am really going to miss this channel. It has provided me with pleasure and knowledge. I like the format; I like the pacing; I like the humour. Take care of yourself. You have to do that so that you can take care of others.

I believe that Gandalf the White tells the Three Hunters that Treebeard spotted him from a distance, but the two didn't speak until Gandalf came to Isengard. It was at that point that Treebeard learned all, or at least a lot, of what Merry and Pippin weren't telling him in this chapter. He goes so far as to remark, after Gandalf leaves, that Merry and Pippin "weren't quite so hasty" (or something like that) as he thought. At this point he already knew Gandalf was alive, but he wasn't yet in on the secret of the One Ring.

Wrong Great Darkness. It is the original Darkness, when the Lamps were destroyed and the Valar and all the Maiar not in league with Melchor/Morgoth had to retreat over the Sundering Sea to Aman, and the raising of the Pelori Mountains cut off all light from the Two Trees to the lands of Middle Earth. The Great Darkness would not be lifted until after Men awoke and the Trees were destroyed. Most of the flora and fauna of Yavanna could not live without light, so everything that could not survive were put to sleep, stasis, until the times would change. Trees of some sorts could survive, so they sprang up and grew to giants, so once the Elves awoke, they talked to everything, and the first Ents awoke and learned from them...but the trees and all life were still in darkness, except for the stars. I can believe that in the deepest coombs and valleys of Fanghorn, the outer rim of trees grew too close and forever blocked the Sun. Anyways, that's what he meant.
