biggest advantage of commuting by motorcycle is that you get to ride twice a day. i feel much more alive starting work after a ride and happier.

I just paid $30 to gas up once this week and I'm pissed. Based in Georgia. Been wanting to get a bike to daily when I don't need to drive my sisters around. Well, now that Im 18 Ive been daily riding a motorcycle for 2 years and now Ive been driving a car for a few mounths can honestly say... I fucking HATE these cars! It's so annoying, can't see alot of my surroundings, locked in a metal f cage, 4 wheels and aton of potholes that are hard to see, expensive af, maintanance is expensive, something brakes and cracks and I have absolutely no idea from where its coming from. It's not even fun when you drive fast! Its like im playing a video game, sitting on my couch at home. The only benefit is that I can put more shit in the trunck. Im thinking of selling the car and buying a motorcycle again...

I bought a car 3 months ago and the three reasons I bought a car instead of a motor scooter are: CARGO, PASSENGERS and TRAINING (I want to get a job as an electrician and I am a beginner driver, driving school did most of the training but there's a reason why beginners need to have a sticker in their window). I want to buy a scooter in the near future for when I have to drive alone in the city but a car is a necessity when you live or have relatives that live in the suburbs. Also, I have to admit...I am afraid of riding anything with two wheels over 50 KM/hr, so the scooter is only for city riding. Regarding your car, if you don't carry heavy cargo or passengers too often I advise you get a small hatchback.

Lots of great points. However you missed a few great details. Concerning the commute to a long work site 1 hour commute heavy traffic consider this. If if it is legal or you are comfortable doing it illegaly SAFELY (Because filtering should be legal, not splitting. lane splitting at a red light is filtering. Splitting is doing so which card are moving at higher speeds) I have a car and at one point I had a 954rr. I dread and still dread highway traffic (my commute typically is Boynton Beach Florida, to North miami for personal reasons other than work and the highway congestion, especially when winterbirds come down and during school season, is HEAVY. Florida, unlike New York, does a terrible job at removing accidents from the highway so even a small fender bender will clog up a lane because no one is smart enough to roll the car out the way. Bikes csn simply filter through dead traffic making your commute much quicker in proportion to how heavy traffic is. Cars are bigger and require a bigger "safe zone" when changing lanes and typically accelerate much slower. Bikes, naturally with their higher power/weight on 500+ CC's need less room to make a safe lane change. Regarding weather, yes you will have to yield to it, but there are work-arounds. I'm also an all gear all time guy. You can by arm vents for your jacket. There are many FULL face helmet with great air options if you don't mind spending more than minimal price for a helmet. My cold AC doesn't work and so on Florida, the most brutal weather I've ever ridden in, in a car, is when it's the middle of the day raining, and the sun is blazing at 85+ degrees. Windows stay up, and you get cooked in the car. There are rain proof jackets available which are light, but still cause you to get "cooked". The alternative is you can use the arm vents to create airflow. Also rainproof pants/shoes are available too and it's I expensive and they also have airflow options. Bike insurance, with the exception of a few states, is much cheaper than cars. Full coverage with minimal comp/collision on my 2008 Altima coupe see is 350/m progressive. A 2011 GSXR1000 with average comp/collision is only $140/m. If I choose minimal deductible, it's 125/m. Oil changes, require less oil and so require less money. You can do more work DYI than a car simply because bike stands for $100 are much cheaper than buying a hydraulic car lift for over 8,000. Even if you have the same knowledge of cars and motorcycles, what limits you is equipment needed for each vehicle to do the same jobs. The only thing I know that's more expensive than cars in units, is tires simply because you have to buy them more often. 2 tires on a sport motorcycle let's say you choose Michelin because tires are the most important feature of a bike, and you should buy what grips the road best... runs $150 average for each. The bigger costs more than the smaller so we use an average price... 300 for a set. They last 12k miles normally. 4 Nexen tires for my Altima 225 width custom rims, is $70-90 per tire if I get warranty, but they last 40k+ miles. If I wanted to I could buy cheap non-sport tires for a car, but I like performance, so I buy Nexens best model. Overall bikes are cheaper, require more maintenance yes, but regular DYI maintenance is much more affordable than a car if you follow regular maintenance intervals according to manufacturer recommendations. Bikes with the worst MPG (litre bikes), get better MPG than a PRIUS and most hybrids. So if you got a 600 or even a 300 or a sport touring bike, you'd save maby dollars on a tank. If you had a 20 gallon tank on a bike, you'd be going to the gas station almost 2x less than a 20 gallon car. Consider facts and as the video maker said, consider your need as well. But most importantly, ride before you decide. You'll never know if you watch a bunch of videos. Once you ride and experience, then you no longer carry ignorance in this area, and can make an informed decision for yourself. That's how I cane to my own conclusion. Long post, but just some insight

Fun overview. However ... For anyone who owns a car or has access to good public transport that is equivalent to a car (e.g. residents of cities like New York, Paris, London, Toronto ), a motorbike can only be a toy and an expensive one at that. Nothing wrong with that, but one might as well admit it. I respect people who have only a motorbike, or indeed a bicycle, but I'll make one observation about when I was living in Sicily before I got a car. Relying exclusively on two wheels during a season when torrential rain is frequent and comes out of nowhere, often accompanied by high winds, sucks :)

I have access to good public transport and a car. Lets see: my commute with public transport is 45-50mins. With car, it is 40-45 mins. With a bike it is only 15-20 mins. (with a bicycle it is around 35-40 mins... Thats a huge time save! Ok, its barely rain here, and 9-10 month the weather is ok for riding.

Idk I have a 35 -40 min commute and I'm perfectly fine on my bike. No fatigue. People tend to get fatigued from fighting wind on the highway. Before I bought my big bagger bike with a fairing, I had a smaller bike and was fatigued from that ride. Hence why I chose to drive my car all the time. Even though I have no a/c in my car. Barely rode the smaller bike to work even though I wanted to.

As a man who has only driven hard-suspension older sports cars with sparse creature comforts, hard bucket seats, and sometimes no ac, I think I would probably cut out to daily a bike. I hope so. gas expenses add up and motorcycles are reaaally quick
@paulAntill
@paulAntill 6 лет назад
There's that, but the gas shouldn't be the main factor. You can get a cheap used Hybrid Civic or Prius for like 3-6k. They'll get similar gas MPG, safer, and more convenient. If you're looking for fun and cheap ownership, than a motorcycle could work for you. As someone who has lost a lot of interest in bikes recently - too many stupid drivers in my area - I'm finding those car deals to be much more inciting. Granted it seems like a car like that wouldn't satisfy your craving :P

Biggest advantage of riding motorcycles? It’s the MPG and it’s gridlocked traffic-PROOF here in California where you can legally lane split. I’ve been riding as a daily motorcycle commuter for the last 23 years and never once I got stuck in traffic. All you need to carry stuff is strapping a milk crate on the back of your motorcycle and you’re good to go and buy that small tray of Chinese Chow Mein and eat it with your riding buddies in a public park.
