Premillennialism doesn’t always have to be “doom and gloom.” John Gill was a historic premillennialist who taught a victorious eschatology. In his “Body of Divinity,” he wrote about a coming “spiritual reign of Christ” preceding the millennium, during which all nations would be subject to Christ’s authority and rule. Gill saw the catalyst for this spiritual reign as the destruction of Roman papalism and the Turkish powers (Gog & Magog). In Gill’s system the spiritual reign is co-extensive with the Philadelphian church period.
