The “All Africans are related” comments are unnecessary, I am aware that we all share the same ancient root but this video pertains to two specific countries whose stories are intertwined . People of Sierra Leone or Nigerian ancestry know exactly what I am referring to when they read the title . If you are uninformed then this video will inform you. Comments made to divert people or that have zero correlation with the topic at hand will be removed . All humans came from the same two people , but that doesn’t mean we are the same people today . As pan Africa as we may be, everyone and everywhere has developed their own unique story , culture , and customs that should be respected .

Ikr. Some people just don't want to learn. I have always wondered about the similarities between these 2 countries. From their somehow mutual pidgin English to some of their commo names. I guess trading between them also played a huge part.
@thelastgriot
@thelastgriot 8 месяцев назад
@@SouthwardTwist Most people are only focused on what their response or reaction should be , more than what’s actually being said , so the actual message goes over their heads . Those who fully tune in and receive , will always gain the gems of life . And yes Nigerian Pidgin is derived from Sierra Leonian Krio and the trading diaspora back and forth indeed played a major role .

Finally someone has spread this knowledge. Being Krio, growing up I used to wonder why we had English and Yoruba names and not indigenous Sierra Leone names. Then I did extensive research and came to the conclusion that we were originally Yorubas (for the most part)from Nigeria and brought to Sierra Leone during the slave trade. I’ve always felt close to Yoruba Nigerian culture, and for a long time did know why. My parents have some knowledge but not all of it. Also, one of Aunts who tried to instill Yoruba culture in me, passed away when I was young. Especially that Afrobeats has reached worldwide, I understand my identity. I’m truly a Yoruba by blood.

@@thelastgriotIf there’s any way to get in contact with you, please let me know. I have some additional questions. Sometimes, I think I’m more Nigerian than some of my friends directly from Nigeria. Some are perplexed that Krios are essentially Yorubas. My name is Ivan Dunn. My father’s middle name is Olufemi.
@ivandunn1334
@ivandunn1334 8 месяцев назад
Would you say Oku are essentially Muslim Yorubas. And Krios are English/Christian Yorubas? That’s the conclusion I’ve come too. The British destroyed the Christian side more it seems like. But Krios still use greetings like Kushe, Kaabo, and eat olele(moi moi), akara, egusi soup, etc.
@akindele13
@akindele13 5 месяцев назад
Also there’s a Connection between Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea, the only Spanish speaking country on the Continent. On the Island they Speak Something call Pichichi Ingles which is exactly Krio. Which was brought over there by Sierra Leonians back in the 1900s .

According to history,African slaves were brought down from abroad and freed in Sieria Leone(freetown to be precise)...there's the possibility that many Slaves stayed back there without searching for their original home town.,.remember Bishop Ajayi Crowther of Nigeria...his story displays Nigeria's very close ties with S.Leone...same for Jamaica.....we are looking fwd to more of your creative content on all these beautiful African Countries with hit histories.....more grease to your elbow,love your contents,I'm Nigerian by the way.

What a well produced well researched video. I find alot of Creoles don’t have a grasp or sadly an interest in their history. Never questioned why they dont have a language native to the region never curious as to why the names are what they are. I love being this unique thing that is Creole… aside from Americo-Liberians who i have to be honest i see as the same culturally i cant think of another group who has done something like this. Its why i have always been cautious of Pan African ideas as i think it ultimately flattens entire cultural differences when i think individual histories are important . Again thanks for a great video

It is not where Nigerian come from, rather they are from Nigeria, Freetown was founded by the british as a new site to drop freed slave brought back from south America and those you heard him saying that their ship was intercept while being taking to America after the abolition of slave trade. Those freed slave from Nigeria initially later found their way back to Nigeria from Sierra leone after some years of settling in Sierra Leone.

Those saying Nigeria was bigger than Africa, FYI, there was no Nigeria or the other African countries. The African continent was one large land with different tribes, not countries. If the Africans separated Africa on their own, the present day African countries would have been totally different. There are some tribes who did not belong to certain Countries and some tribes who were added by default to other Countries. There are some tribes who were added to the present day Nigeria by default by the Europeans. Africans/tribes were all mixed up.

My Parents hail from the Yoruba ethnic group in Western Nigeria. Recently, I took a DNA test and the outcome was most astonishing. It revealed that I have a genetic composition comprising 63% Yoruba heritage, while an unexpected 36% is attributed to Sierra Leonean ancestry. This outcome has confounded my expectations, for my great-grandparents on both sides were unequivocally Yorubas. I find myself ruminating on the role of British colonialism in concealing significant aspects of our historical lineage. so much you do not know that you may think you know. The actions of the British in concealing and distorting aspects of our historical lineage might not precisely be termed as a form of historical manipulation, suppression, or cultural erasure, where a colonial power actively sought to obscure and manipulate the history and heritage of the colonized people.

So, it's not surprising to find the so-called 200 fallen angels in the Ethiopian Book of Enoch, which are the 200 Ajoguns (Warriors) in yoruba cosmology. They choose not to write about the other 200 Irunmoles (divinities) that are the main focus of yoruba spirituality. A lot of things are hidden.

We are Yorubas just far removed. My Dads middle name is Olufemi. The only thing that Krios have in common we other Salone tribes is that they speak Krio. Other than that, we are closer to Yoruba Nigerian culture. Kushe, Kaabo, Akara, Olele or moi moi, Egusi, Ashobie really Aso ebi are all from Yorubas. 30% of the words in Krios are Yoruba. Krios are really Nigerians just very far removed. I still love Salone.

@@97VIRTUESHEART Firstly, using today's map makes no sense, because the world was different then. However, using today's map, we can say, yes, many migrated from Egypt. We have a documentation in the family that explains the world to us from over 3000 years ago, and we can trace all our Kings back to before the Son Of God was born. Thus proving that many migrated from Ancient Egypt, but did not say if they originated from there or not. We were told that giants were in West Africa as they migrated there, in today's Nigeria, there were many emperors in our family and most of their bronze works that tell the history are spread all over the world today... originate might not be the right world to use, but "migrated from" is.
