It's more like, at a certain age your children's friend group raises them into adulthood. Parents don't even comprehend how much time they actually have to influence. 100% as a baby. 60% (maybe) as a toddler. 20% during school yrs. By design. The mistake parents make is emphasizing compliance and staying out of trouble. Instead of understanding reasoning and navigating through trouble.

This pressure from parents to do well is because among the many other reasons, one of the resons is that what you do reflects onto your parents and siblings. There is a responsability on kids to be in right standing with other people if that is what your parents had done. It is the reputation to uphold. In america it has long been forgotten that you being who you want to be comes second, you as a child from a family who raised you and taught you the best qualiteis - those ideals have to be reflected first and then you make room for your own identity. In other countires this is one of the resons children are either able to do this or they fail to live up to this responsability and it is a massive pressure because it is a huge responsability. I think parents in the western world need to know the balance between being yourself and being reflection of your family and its values.

It’s not 100 percent, but some parents enable their children. Some don’t have boundaries. I have a brother and he literally mimicked my mother and his father in the worst way . She(My mother) says “What can I say he acts just like me.” I on the other hand saw what was wrong and went in the other direction wanting to be better. Nah, sometimes it is the parents. You know how many people say “I’m this or that including religious views because that is what I was taught” I hear it all the time. But everyone is absolutely responsible. You can’t decide to have a child and not hold some blame. But yes, some people choose different paths the parents can’t predict. I did! And it was a non toxic and healthy one.

@Andrew-km5rr
@Andrew-km5rr 3 месяца назад
The answer is it’s a sliding scale. To act like the moment someone turns 18 they are in that moment going forward 100% responsible and the 18 years before it they weren’t responsible is non sense. A 17 is a minor but they should be held responsible for their actions, and there parents should be as well. A 23year old is an adult but how many times have you asked yourself in life “who raised you?” to the actions of an adult? The accountability the parents should take decreases over time. It never truly goes away Minor is a legal term but to act like there’s a meaningful difference about how you view the actions of a 17 yr old and an 18 year old is non sense. They’re not adults but they’re not dumb children. I has that age not to long ago and I knew exactly what I was doing when I did dumb/bad things.

“Reflection” is not always a bad as the context in which y’all are using it. “Reflection” could be all my parents did was preach school and life plan, never asked what I really wanted, and that made me rebellious and live wild. Even though you “made a decision” them impressing on you what you didn’t relate too COULD make you worse off in which case that could be a “reflection” on their parenting. I’m a firm believer that we either become our parents or become the opposite. Either or, is a reflection of their patenting.

In today generation people don’t know what raising children is because most parents don’t know what discipline is because they’re not disciplining in their life. Discipline is not just correction. Discipline is teaching them to make choices that are right and gonna lead to good behavior and good outcomes. We live in a generation where we just want to correct our kids. The biggest part of my discipline with my 2 17 year-old and 15-year-olds is teaching them to live a discipline life through choices to teach them to understand the outcomes of the action before they do the actions Then we have to be very proactive about what we allow around our kids and what we allow our kids to get into. I can’t let my kids listen to certain music watch certain movies, and play certain video games and not expect that there may be influence onto them. My family member used to say if you don’t let them have a little fun now they gonna wild out later when they leave your house and I always said well that’s their option. They’re gonna know their actions and their actions when they leave my house to wild out, I trust that they’ll be all right, but I’m not gonna because I’m scared of what they might do when you doing that. Lastly anything my kids do I am very much responsible for I take accountability over all their actions. That’s what the father does. I taught my kids sexual discipline starting at the age of eight to my knowledge I don’t think any of them are sexually active right now doesn’t mean they don’t have friends of the different gender and boyfriend, etc. Just means they know the consequences of their actions and understanding how to get to a place where they can have those grown-up actions.. last whatever I do they do it’s always been my rule if they see me wilding out they can go wilding out , but they don’t see me do those things and they really follow my actions. So yes we effect our kids action one way or another

Those are young adults, and we shouldn’t infantilize them and treat them like dumb children. @@respectfullyquestioned I mostly agree, however you shouldn’t treat them like such the entire time. Don’t treat a 13 year old like a 17 year old. The way you treat a 17 and 18 year old should be the same because there’s not much of a difference. The only difference is a legal one. As a parent it’s your job to slowly treat your children like adults to make them ready for the adult world. If you treat them like kids up untill the day they turn 18 you’re doing them a disservice. They will not know how to navigate the adult word because they were never given the responsibilities and choices of one.

They could find themselves in street situations (fights- getting robbed, ect) That happened to someone I know and he said “that’s never happening again.” Got a gun, got caught with it, went to jail. That happened twice. From then on he now is in beef with who robbbed him and it just didn’t stop. I know you can imagine the picture I’m painting . everything escalated. His dad was taking his guns tryna protect him but in that situation it wasn’t protecting him, unfortunately. I remember telling him like “bro you do know what’s going to happen to you if you get caught again? He was like “ it’s already a wrap for me, either way it go, shit they tryna kill me, and I ain’t just bout to let it happen, fuck it.” He smoked a lot and drank alot and started robbing a lot, and went to jail a lot. After he got kicked out for the guns. They got him, shot him 20 something times. I think if he never got kicked out it would have went differently. When he got kicked out he had no where to be but the streets.
