Brand new subscriber. Anticipating the S24U videos. I started street and architecture photography with mine a couple months ago. Can't wait to get more proficient with it! I'm practicing how to get subjects sharper while moving.

Thanks for the sub, I really appreciate it! You can check my S23 and S22 playlists too, there's a lot of content in there that translates to the S24 pretty well.

Probably the Freewell ND filters are the only potentially justifiable purchases for those who do video, especially when combined with the amazing MotionCam Pro app, which is able to do FULL SENSOR RAW video (something only expensive pro cameras can do).

Yeah, I always suggest that anyone who wants to do video with their phone get a filter set before any lenses.

spot on! i agree with every detail of this video. if you want up your game and take your creativity to next level better invest in a second hand R10 and a 1.8 glass. if you dont need extra quality and must stick to maximum portability get some brand lenses for phone and call it a day. ps: i am not all against lenses. i bought a 68mm lens which screws on my 100-400RF and transforms it to an insane makeshift macro. even the autofocus is working perfect and i got some out of this world focus stacks with that. 😮

got to say im not a expert photographer but seeing your vids do make a difference and using the 24 ultra is handy as long as you know what you can do with it,it works for me i can do night photography and it good for like ig stuff but now im more interested in the astro side of it like moon etc so i look forward to the videos coming out for the 24 ultra stuff best utuber for photography i find

I did a similar video mate. The comments on that video suggest that most people buy them then leave them in their desk drawers. The benefits of mobile photography starts to become redundant soon enough. Good video mate

Oh wow. I guess that's not surprising though. It pretty much mirrors my own experience with them as well. Really, the only thing I attach to my phone for photos anymore would be a CP filter, especially now that Samsung finally got the eND filters for expert raw mode.

The thing is, if I need lenses and accessories to use my phone... I might as well use a real camera. If it's not the ease of use then phone photography has no appeal to me.

You sir, are a voice of reason. Thank you for taking the time to think all this out. I think for me im trying to stay engaged/invested, trying to find a path that will keep me moving toward the things I just cant afford right now due to my personal circumstances. Reaching for ways to try and afford to level up into better photography. Im not sure theres a place for phone photography anywhere above a hobby and social media. I can learn some more basic principles with my phone, but I feel like i wont learn how to get good with a R8 or R10 unless I get a R10 or R8. I was almost ready to upgrade from my S22U to the 24 just so I could aim for that Freewell stuff then I realized what you clarify in this video, for the money or just a bit more, I can do better, so I may as well keep pushing. If I upgrade my phone thats 1200 bucks, (fortunately on payments through phone service), and if I got that Freewell kit once I got a S24, if I wasnt on a phone plan making payments it would nearly be the cost of the R8 all together. I will have to look more into the R10, I set my sights on the R6 when it was released, then the MKII, and now ive tried to shift my aim to the R8 thinking its a more practical goal (based on what I think I want to be capable of). Thanks again for your insights. You deserve more algorithm. If I can make it happen one day I would definitely join for one of your workshops but thats a ways away for me.

The R8 is an absolutely incredible little camera. Same sensor and AF as the R6II. The R10 is a great, more affordable way to get into mirrorless too, and you could always start off by getting one and then trading it up towards an R8 later. I'd check mpb, that's where I get all my used gear these days. Also where I sell and trade in my used gear too. Not sponsored at all, not even any affiliate links for them, I just really like their service.

@@BrentHallis that so? I haven't been keeping up. If so, what does the R6II have over the R8?

Hi. Great and honest video, as usual. Thanks for it and all your work. I've got a question for you. I used to do a lot of photography but live has drove me away from it for quite some time now. I want to get back to it. I am more a landscape photographer but I also want to start astro. Here is my gear: Canon 50D, 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS, 75-300mm 4-5.6 USM, 22-55mm 4-5.6 USM and a 50mm 1.8 II lenses. I think the 50D is pretty outdated and it is hard to find batteries for it nowadays (I live in New Zealand, that might explain :D). What camera body would you recommend that could work with my lenses, give me good results and not requires me to break into Fort Knox? 😂😂😂

I had a Samsung S4 Photo, or something like that - the lens physically extended out when zooming in. Very gimmicky. The images were a little distorted. Heavy as a brick. But it was still kinda cool. My phones these days are on the cheap side. I buy the Samsung A series, so less processing power, downgraded camera capabilities, etc. But, I don't buy my phone for the camera features. Texting, email, watching RU-vid, buying crap I don't need, and this weird thing that people used to do called "phone calls". The camera is decent and good enough to capture a moment if I don't have my regular camera, but I won't buy a high-end phone just for camera capabilities, when I know I'll be replacing it in 3-4 years. But it's still good to see how the technology is progressing.

Filters for doing video sure lenses nah. Big waste of $ Polar pro case with the filter attachment is pretty nice and easy to deal with for certain perspectives/uses. Outside of the phone the pocket3 is great and easy convenience wise.

Camera phones are great, very useful for all sorts of reasons. However if you want to take your photography to the next level, get a camera.

Mine sit in a closet now. Unless those lens makers make attachment cases for your model phone, they're useless. Moment doesn't even support Android any more.

Just old school here, but I don't own a mobile phone for it's photographic features, nor do these features interest me. A quick snapshot to capture an event is OK, but that's it. I'll bring my camera gear if I want to shoot something important. The phone retailers are pushing imaging capability because they can't charge the enormous prices (and profit) for selling a phone that hasn't changed its primary function in many years.

After years of investing in phone photography, I've come to the same conclusion. For snapshots: phone. For photos I care about: Nikon.

have a Qs, how would i shoot or record a lighting storm on s24 ultra what cam settings, and you think is it possible to do a "good" pictures or video on s24 ultra?
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 3 месяца назад
You can definitely capture lightning with your phone. It's the same process and techniques as with a regular camera, but it's a little harder to get right because the phone's little sensor tends to blow the highlights out real fast, so you've got to compensate for that and underexpose a bit more and really dial it in for each scenario. I have quite a few videos about photographing lightning, and even an old one from a few years ago about doing it with a phone. You can check out my storm photography playlist and watch some of those videos to learn how I do it. If you've never used pro mode before then you might also want to watch my S23 Ultra pro mode video (don't have one for the s24 yet, but it's the same).

Look into GCAM and motion camera, it will make your phone a DSLR, and then you will think about how overrated real cameras are for good amount of scenes.

This, every RU-vidr avoids either installing GCAM and even worse NEVER TALKING ABOUT MOTIONCAM! I'm shooting 7K Open Gate Raw om my phone 4 yr old phone. That is amazing but its like taboo to talk about it or something
