I have the cheap set and sanded all the edges smooth which did the trick (this also gave the tweezers a more rounded look). Plants stay put first time, every time now. Also they claim these tweezers are stainless steel. I can confirm is truthful as I dipped the tip in gun bluing solution which had no effect whatsoever.
Thank you for this video. It has reinforced what I've always suspected about the "you get what you pay for" adage. The aquarium tool set I got on Amazon for 13 bucks is absolute rubbish. I think I'll gladly pay a bit more to keep from butchering expensive plants during the scaping process.
No problem at all. I was really surprised but certainly won't be wasting my money in the future. The only thing I'm still a bit bit dubious about is scissors. Surely there can't be that much of a difference there... What do you reckon? 👍
@@AquariumShed I think there would be a difference indeed. I reckon as scissors have to maintain a sharper and more consistent cutting surface throughout the length of the blade as well as a tight fit with the rivet or screw holding the two blades together.
Yeah, I think you are spot on. Thats what I was trying to explain in the text but I don't think I did a very good job. lol. It's amazing how such a simple design element can make such a difference. Thanks for watching!
@@AquariumShed could bend the cheap ones to mirror the shape of the JBL ones and do a follow up video? That would show wether it's down to the curve or the tip grip
I’m looking for thinner tweezers, the ones I have are too thick and push around too much aquasoil when I’m planting which causes issues in smaller scapes
I'm not sure why you're using different plants and different tubs of soil for the test? Also, your techniques for each tweezers are different. You open the tweezer gradually for the cheap tweezers following planting, whereas you open the tweezers more or less instantly for the more expensive tweezers.
I can't remember as this was a long time ago, but did I not swap the plants around because I recognised that this could create a difference? If not, I apologise.
