It is quite possible that Ukraine will take Kherson. There the Russians can only withdraw if they leave their material behind. That would be a real defeat.

We may well be seeing thousands of Russian soldiers who are confused, ill led, tired and fed up, surrendering enmasse to end their ssuffering. Let's hope Ukraine can retake the area with minimal losses as possible on both sides and especially in the civilian communities, no one deserves this.

Fleeing or surrendering would be the honorable thing to do - at least for the Russian soldiers who don't really know what the are there for, or have realised that they have been brainwashed for years to do evil things for an evil regime: A noble gesture to gradually put an end to Russia's barbarous stupidity in a time that we had though the human race had grown up enough from the lessons learned in the last century. Well given the non stop destruction of Russian logistics over the past few weeks I strongly suspect that a lot of those Russian troops are starving and have not had a good hot meal in in weeks. Furthermore they are short on ammunition and are expected to fight knowing that their commanders have skidaddled to the relative safety of the East Bank of the Dnieper.

The result of this great counteroffensive is truly astounding. Ukraine lost only in this misadventure 1200 soldiers (that's only killed, the number of wounded is unknown), 48 tanks, 46 IFV, 37 armored trucks, two jets, two helicopters (all hardware is courtesy of Biden administration and Fed's money printing -- inflation be damned) with exactly zero territorial gains. Zelenskyy regime is shelling a nuclear plant under Russian control. Such reckless war crimes can be committed only out of utter desperation. It reminds Hitler's Nero plan in 1945. I hope eventually Zelenskyy, Biden and their henchmen will be brought to justice or justice will be brought to them.

Kherson is not on the left bank of the Dnepr. The left bank is always the bank to your left when your back is facing upriver, and your chest is facing down river. Rivers have a habit of slithering across the landscape. Sometimes the left bank will be to the west, sometimes it will be North, or South, or even East.

The Russian are trapped in the Kherson Oblast north and west of the river. They might make it out on foot on what's left of the bridge over the dam but no military equipment or supply vehicles can get in or out. The Ukrainians have been bombarding the Russians with artillery and HIMARS using drones to pinpoint what's left of their weapons, ammunition, and other supplies they need to survive and fight. They have three choices, flee, surrender, or die. If they don't make a choice by winter they will probably freeze to death. Once this military of 20,000 to 30,000 Russians are disposed of, the next phase will be south of the river and Crimea probably simultaneously as Crimea will be within range of the HIMARS. The Russians are stalemated in the east as they too are being cut off, their ammunition, weapons, and other supplies are being destroyed, their small advances so far meaningless as these small advances go back and forth with no substantial change in the front lines as their strength is depleted. Russia's economy is collapsing. The end of Russia as an industrial nation is now just a matter of time. It will be many decades before anyone even thinks of giving them another chance.

A ton of videos and pictures have surfaced today of dosens of destroyed Ukrainain vehicles, Russians are clearly not fleeing.

Before I believe a word of this I would like to see concrete evidence of russian forces leaving the area. So far people with the technical abilities to watch such activities haven't said a word about large numbers of russian soldiers moving eastward or in any other direction. So feel free to listen and root for your favorite side but remember the old adage, the first causality of war is the truth.

Kherson (and the rest of the western bank) is actually considered to be on the right bank of the Dnieper, not the left.

All you have to do is listen to Russia's version of events. According to them Ukraine's offensive has already failed. Alexandre Mercouris is starting to sound like Bahdadi Bob.

They did not take 4 villages, there were four main points of effort and in one of those efforts they took one minor village, the rest were pushed back. But it's day one, we will see what happens on day two.
