I really appreciate all the videos you put up. I'm just getting serious about knife making after it being a hobby supplying my camp and hiking blades. I owe it to people like you for putting up these videos. You're helping me out more than you know.
Another thing you should do is install something over the insulation on the walls. The exhaust end of the cleaner blows the tiny fiberglass fibers around that you can't see and you breathe those in when you take your mask off. Even if you tack 3mil plastic, or even 1/4" plywood, just so it's covered.
I always wear mine after the first time I ever ground a blade and spent days blowing snotty, dirty gray steel powder out of my sinuses. It was terrible. Thx for the review Mike.

Dust hazards are no joke! Those shop dust collectors are really only for 1-10 micron particles that remain airborne, which are most commonly wood particles, but it will certainly pick up other material floating around. Check out the video I just did on the same thing!

Glad you finally got some filtration in your shop. As well as wood and carbon fibre dust, you will also have a lot of ceramic dust from the belts. All this stuff stays in the air for days and I mean days! to be honest; it is the stuff you cant see, that is even more dangerous to your lungs. The dust created will also be on your clothes and everything else for that matter. when you take your respirator off in your shop you are still breathing in a lot of sub 0.5 micron dust (the stuff you can't see) best option it to keep respirator on, all the time you are in the shop. Put it on before entering and leave the shop with it still on ....which I know is difficult but will make a huge difference. a.t.b

I swear I LOVE that MASSIVE blade dude! That thing is so bad ass! I could see somebody putting that in a sheath and carrying it. LOL I'm sure it works better has a kitchen knife though. Hahahaha
in my opinion the only thing that really helps is a dust collector...but that means pipes all over shop at every tool, machine .... friend of mine has one n its great.u dont even have to wear a mask.
If you really want to get serious about dust collection you need to do more to protect yourself. I started with dust mask, 2 large fans that moved side to side with the open double doors and an open window. Then I added a Delta dust filter larger than the one you have. Then I added a 2 horsepower dust collection from Harbor Freight with "Y" and 4" flexible hoses that were connected to 4" solid pipe system throughout my shop that measures 16'x18' with Y's to 4 saws, drill press, table router and 12"x33" lathe. At the lathe I have a large dust collector like you have under you grinder and a 4" hose with a wide square dust collector at the work piece. I decided that my health was more important than money. It comes down to paying for dust collection or medical bills and a funeral. The choice is yours. This is for everyone viewing this video. Don't wait do it now! It's for your life!
Didnt you close the door in the shop, doing the test? or else the test ant saying much, air born dust gest easily bolwn in different directions in the wind and it ant take much. Hope you understand my not so good english.
doesn't matter the size of your shop you should of got at least 1044 cfm it takes a lot of suction, pull to get those air born particles pulled up to your filter
This test is not really that great... Particles over about 8 microns fall pretty quickly and you really don't need a filter for them... Small particles like 1 or 2 microns which ARE produced by sanding wood at least.. . can float around for up to an hour and you cannot see them. BUT they are just as damaging to your lungs.. These are the reason for the filtration system... and that is why you have it up high and swirl around the shop.
Sorry, but that test setup is simply wrong. That machine is not suited for this type of dust. First of all I doubt that any filtering machine can filter air as fast as an open door can in such a small shop. Second: You can see for yourself, that the dust is made of big particles. They cant even fly a few meters away. That dust is too heavy to even get up there to be filtered (at least the majority). It just falls down. The right apporach is to build dust collection into the machine which will probably suck up 95% of the dust, especially the thick type. I wouldn't use a shop vac for that though. Then you are left with fine dust floating in the air for a long time and THAT is what that air cleaner is for. Dust that needs a long time to settle. Dust of 1 micron can not be seen! And I really doubt you can see 5 microns. I respect your time and effort for the test but people could get a wrong impression here.
I think it's annoying that so many people who make videos and post them always start of the same way and the same styles of intros... IE, "What's up guys," or, "Hey Guys," or "Hey Guys what's up?" 999 times out of 1000, the introductions are always the same regardless of who is making the video... come ON people, who about a little bit of originality and a bit more professionalism here. Ah... it is what it is I guess. It's just hard for me to tolerate because I'm a filmmaker and write scripts to use in my films. But this kind of intro is so redundant and shows an inherent lack of originality no matter who is doing the filmmaking and hosting. It would be especially important to show a bit more professionalism, especially when offering an informative video, or critiquing a product, or offering a personal analysis of a product you want the public to know about... this business of "Hey Guys, What's Up, or "Hi Guys," or, "Hey What's up?" Or, "Hey, What's Up Guys"... well, it's just not professional and doesn't inspire me to want to keep on watching. Be informed and be professional, especially when offering your personal or professional opinion about products... Be professional even if, or especially if your opinion is unsolicited and is your personal observations about a product. If you can offer a totally unbiased opinion about a product, the company might not take offense. But if you are criticizing a product and only offering your very biased and prejudiced opinion, they might not take nicely to it and will not appreciate your efforts and you could get in trouble for running down a product even if your analysis is correct. another thing that might be helpful is having a script, or a cheatsheet to use so that you aren't being repetitive or redundant by saying the same thing over and over.
