Dr. Lori Handy explains that there are about 100 types of human papillomavirus (HPV), and different types cause different infections. For example, some types of HPV cause skin warts that can appear on the hands, arms or legs. Other types can cause genital warts or cancers, including cervical, throat and anal cancer.
HPV vaccine can prevent some types of HPV infections.
