Are slim PC fans KILLING your cooling?

I love slim fans as they allow me to get fans and radiators into tight spaces. But how much performance are you sacrificing? Everything being equal a slim fan is going to perform worse as it's thinner right? Is a standard radiator and slim fan as good as a normal fan and slim radiator? All these questions and more answered in today's video!
We'll be comparing slim fans and standard fans to see which you should opt for in your build given the choice.

im pretty impressed with how close this slim fan is to the other fans. i have the t30 and its great, but im designing a 3d printed case to be as small as possible and going for the 15mm fan saves you 15mm , which is huge. thanks for the video.

I am going for the SilverStone air slimmer over a Noctua thanks to your testing. Will use it on a Arctic freezer 3 240(38mm) because of space constraints (Jonsbo A4) as I already had the radiator. The radiator is the only exhaust and I am building the case to have a positive pressure so the fans in the bottom will push enough air in to support the air slimmer fans and this should give a decent result. Will give an update if the combo is worthwhile.

I love this test comparison. I am in the process of building my sfx build. You answered many of the questions I had. Thank you.

These types of fans are so slick looking. Only way I was able to fit a 120rad for my gpu next to my CPU’s AIO. Fit with a mm of clearance

Hmm, interesting. I'm not sure that I agree with the conclusion stated at 12:03. You stated it's a noticeable difference, but I'd have to respectfully disagree with that and say it's negligible when the difference is less than 1% between the two (standard fan + slim rad vs slim fan + standard radiator). I do agree with your overall conclusion though, nothing here that would stop me from using slim fans either, and Silverstone is the best slim fans I've used as well. Except quite a long time back I used a Gelid in my transparent LCD case mod Visible Contrast that I was pretty impressed with, but wasn't using it on a radiator. If nothing else, It validates what I've always said, get whatever you prefer, it won't really matter. Good to have actual numbers behind that hunch though lol. I'd also be interested to see what that means at different heat loads as well. For example, when the water temperature gets higher and higher the efficiency of the radiator goes up, but would the difference between standard and slim fans be exaggerated at that point too? Hmmm, makes me want to get my watercooling testing gear back out and dusted off again :D

I use 3 slim Noctua fans in the front of my case, slim because they're mounted on the wrong side as my GPU is longer than the 320mm supported GPU length. In practice it doesn't make any difference, although they are noisier at high speeds, speeds which they never reach in normal use. Gaming temps rarely hit 60°C on either CPU/GPU and my PC is quiet.

Would you consider testing if 2 15 mill fans in push-pull are viable on a 45 Rad?

Any chance you'd review smaller fans like the 90-92 mm fans on the smaller cpu heat sinks. I looked around in youtube and none shows up.

Do the non RGB Air Slimmer 120's perform exactly the same? Might be a weird question but there are a few cases in the past where RGB fans have slightly larger hubs than their non-RGB counterparts and end up slightly worse.

Yes, our non-ARGB version of the Air Slimmer is exactly the same size and performance.

@@CrazyTechLab oh no, it sounds stunted and weird and unnatural like you are reading. If you are not reading you need to modify your cadence and tone so it doesn’t sound like a 7th grader reading from Lord of the Rings in front of the class.
